The Wharf was a place that cashed payroll checks for customers that bought a drink. I remember going in the Oshkosh House, the rooms were little more than a sleeping space with one toilet per floor.

I hear the old familiar refrain, "and now it's a parking lot." I think one of the buildings that was in that block was once the Molle typewriter factory. I've only been able to find one picture of it online, and now it's a parking lot. Edit: the 1916 city directory lists it at 53 Ceape, possibly the same building labeled "Oshkosh Boiler Works" in the map at 10:33.

American Imperialism? Try learning to be unbiased. Maybe then you can defeat your liberal guilt. I just found your channel and was enjoying the History of my birthplace. Once I got past the weak and low power humor I was Ok. But then this 'American Imperialism' tripe fell out of your mouth. I am concerned that the children of Oshkosh have someone with your lack of Patriotism influencing any facet of their learning experience.

I was the owner of Kitz Printing and I helped Robert Kachur pronounced Kay cher produce some of his booklets. He was a bit hard to understand at times. He told me that he had an accident when playing basketball and suffered brain damage. Bob also said that he once considered becoming a Catholic priest. He also mentioned that his father was a Famous Green Bay Packer one of those whose names decorate the stadium. Take note that any one of us can get a bump on the head and things will never be the same. RIP Bob!

I'm really interested in this for 2 reasons: 1: Part of my family is Volga Deutsch, and I'd like to know if I have to come to the library to look at archive materials, or if inter-library loan is still a thing. 2: Peg Lautenshlager held a spot in local office in the 90's, right? I remember hearing a pivotal story that involved her and a few friends testing whether a VW Beetle could actually float in the 70's, it may have been late at night, they drove it down a boat ramp in Miller's bay and it actually floated! Until she said "I wonder how deep it is here," opened the door, and it sank all 4 feet to the bottom. The version of the story I heard was that it was one of those after bar time experiments where everyone is doing their best thinking. I highly doubt there is any archival material to support the story, and I have no idea if it's actually true. One of the moms told the story at my graduation party and we all died laughing. Anyway, that's my contribution to Oshkosh history.

I'm a Michigander (don't hold it against me) and spent a decade or so in Michigan's UP, but now I live snow-free in the Southwest. Actually am feeling a bit homesick after watching this. Thank you for the shout out for the Electric Lounge, Me and my wife Tiffany own the Electric Lounge (we are now 2 blocks directly north) We operated the bowling alley from 2006 - through the end of 2012. We took over the entire building during the year of 2010. Many great memories were made. We would possibly still be there today, if the timing of us taking over the upstairs was a little different. The inception of the smoking ban happened shortly after opening. That being said we still had some amazing events, from weddings and MMA events to raves and concerts and everything in-between. The heavy metal concert you talked about was actually pretty amazing. It sold out the entire weekend with people from literally all over the world. After we left the facility it was held another successful time at the Masonic Lodge. Ultimately in the end, as the smoking ban crushed the bowling and tavern industry, being a newly established banquet facility. We were unable to aquire the capital needed to fully update the facility and recover from that set back. After pouring our heart and soul into the building (and living in the beautiful house next door that was also razed) we are glad to see that someone was able to restore it to its past grandeur. Great little video.
