How to Harvest and store onions for long term.
In this video, I demonstrate how to harvest, cure, and store onions. Curing onions is an easy process that anyone can do at home. When stored under optimal conditions, onions can stay fresh for up to a year. This method ensures you get the most out of your onion harvest if you're growing them in your garden.

    Pick any nearly ripened red tomatoes before the birds get them. Our wild birds get fresh water but low hanging fruit, something bit one of my ripe roma Zone 6b. have enough ripened to make a tomato sauce. My fresh basil and oregano. Out of garlic so have to buy some. Nothing beats home grown. I did refrigerator cucumber pickles today.

      Not necessary, I believe you can pick them for whatever type of pickle you want. The only issue is when they start getting too big. That’s the joy of gardening you can kinda make the rules for yourself.

    I have a question: could we have waited for the carrots to mature a little more? How can we identify if it is ready for harvest?

    • @BackyardGardenBasics
      @BackyardGardenBasics 2 месяца назад

      Yes we could have waited a little bit longer. I like to pick them throughout the growing season so I can eat them and not have a huge harvest at the end and have to figure out what to do with them. The longer you wait the more woody the carrots get themself. But knowing when to harvest is different for each variety. I usually go off how tall the carrot leaves are, if they are around 12 inches tall they should be good to pick, you can also check the top of the carrot root also to see if it is about and inch thick, but this can also change for each variety. Great question!

    Great channel. Watching you tear up the grass outside of your garden gave me an idea. I have a small orchard and our AZ grass spreads everywhere! You tilled that grass but only slightly, right? I do not want to open the ground up very much and destroy the fungal network 6 years of wood chips had built in my soil but I have to get the grass under control. What is the planting fabric you used? I need that around my trees after. Thank you.

    Peppers and strawberries like each other, tomatoes and basil like each other. I always like to plant lettuce, onions, and carrots mixed up all together because they do really well altogether and a ripen all together pretty much and so you can clear out that bed and plant your tomatoes or another late season thing like beans. I found beans and petunias like each other and are very pretty together

    • @BackyardGardenBasics

      Yes I’ve heard that it takes over. I’ll at least have it contained to one bed, but might have to do something about it. Thanks for the reminder

    I'm probably at about 7 or 8 years for my montmorency cherry tree, and got 2 cups last year. The bing I planted at the same time didn't make it through the winter. I believe bing needs cross pollinated, but it is a dark sweet cherry. Ranier is another sweet cherry.
