Comparing the Epiphone J45 with the Yamaha A3M. Both have spruce tops and mahogany back and sides.

Yamaha wins
This is NOT an “Inspired by Gibson” banner, Epiphone J45. Compare with THAT one.
Big sound difference. The Epi might be the better strummer, the Gibson the stronger all-rounder. I am happy with my IBG J-45, although I went for the Gibson Hummingbird to replace the Pro.
I made the comparison too. The Epi has the Gibson feel and most of the tone. Some of us can justify the extra money for the Gibson, most of us cannot.
To me the AD17 is my choice. It has a more open sound, more bottom, punchy mids and crisp clear highs
Epi will sound fuller because it has no cutaway.
First is anthem. Yamaha has better clarity.
Yes I have the same feeling. I have two guitars Yamaha FSX3 and AC3M. I don't like L.R. Baggs ATHEM. It's a lot plastics.
Epi much better
The first one
Hardly any noticeable difference. The simple explanation is the dreadnought architecture that is built into many lower end guitars now.
J45 sounded better to me. the yamaha was a little muffled sounding missing some mids and trebles. all personal preference I guess.
The Epiphone for me.
The Epi doesn't have the warmth
Chalk and cheese
Gibson is dark. Epiphone has more mid and treble.
Not $3000 better than the Epi‼️
I had at least 30 guitars ,they are both very close in this demo, excellent job demonstration,.
I have a Gibson J45 from 2016 but tried the Epi J45 ibg back in the december, and wow epiphone are seriously super nice guitars these days. Not better or worse just great guitars!
Pheeeeeeeew….very close
Stop buying Chinese guitars. They are an oppressively communist country who Kill Christians and Muslims and use child labor. They are the biggest threat to Nuclear Armageddon. I could go on and on about why. Spend a few dollars more and buy American or South Korean or Mexican . They are better quality ,and are democratic countries.

Played a new Epi at Guitar center it was nice but I would keep My Yamaha. AC3m Over it and that are within $75.00 in price. That said I parked my D28 after I purchased the Yamaha (very under rated guitar)
I own neither brand, but appreciate them both. The New Epi sounds fuller with more overtones to my ear, but of course many will tell you that most of the Gibsons weren’t as lively as some, actually many will tell you that in the older line up, maybe 1 out of 10 or more would sound awesome. 😢
You can't tell the difference. Just wish the EPI didn't have that awful pickguard. I'd have it removed.
I hear a lot of difference but the IBG is a good guitar anyway. I don't have the nerve to remove the pickguard, even though it has no function.
Neither
Gibson has warmer thicker sound but epiphone isn't bad
Epiphone kills the Yamaha here
No sound differences, but the epiphone finish is awful, while the Gibson one is beautiful
The only thing wrong with the epi is it's not a Gibson by name. I know it's made at the Gibson factory in Montana but people that wants a Gibson buy the Gibson or you won't ever be satisfied . There's a lot of guitar makers that makes guitars that sounds like a martian or Gibson but they aren't Martins or Gibsons so you will never be happy until you get one. You are buying a reputation and history. I had a blue ridge br-140 that sounded and played better than any guitar I've owned but didn't have the Gibson or Martin name on it. I wasn't satisfied until I got my Martin. When you decide to trade or sell your value isn't the same either. I have both Martins and a Gibson j-45 and paid the price for them. Save your dollars until you can afford them. The j-45 is like the Les Paul and people want one not something that looks and sounds like one.
The Gibson, has more realism coming through...course you can't quantify that quality... And if you let it fall, or stand on it Lookin for a Loo, well, you may wish U went with the Epi. Are you experienced, or still floundering.
Make a short scale, with 1 11/16 nut..might Be the one for me? They have 11s On them, and weather resiliency,,which is great for gigs
I wasn’t expecting to like the epiphone’s sound as much as I did 😳
I just bought the Epiphone J45 cutaway and couldn't be happier with it. I have a 1967 J50 Gibson and the Epiphone blows it away sound-wise.
sounds really good 👍👌
Nice guitars for the money, but does not compare to a real J-45. I own both.
In own the IBG & borrowed a Gibson. The difference was plain but not enormous. My Gibson Hummingbird is in a different class.
You had a lot of Neil Young “Old Man” tastiness in there. I dig it. As great of a bargain the Epi version is, it’s just not up to Big Brother Gibson’s standard. And I’m not sure the Epi will be as highly sought after in 20 years like the Gibson. You pay for the quality because it’s an investment.
Press 2 on your keyboard, then 7. Which transition between the two. Don't watch the screen, just listen, with headphones or earbuds if possible.
I have a 2016 Gibson J45 Standard , I also own a late 2000 Epiphone EJ200( and MANY others ) and I love them all. The sound from the Gibson J45 wins for clarity and general overall sound quality and tone. Is it a huge difference, no but everyone that plays my J45 falls in love with it. The Epi J45 is respectable, and I was surprised how good it really is.
AD27 has a lovely warmer sound, thank you great comparison without over produced sound
Very close.
They sound pretty close here.. Thats not the case on all the videos i seen tho. 0:07 0:51
The Epi is closer in tone to the late 60s Gibsons
Hey question - are there any mods done to either guitar or are they out of the box stock? What about strings, are they the ones that come on the guitars, or were they changed?
Epiphone sounds better.
Than Gibsons j 45
@@7thfrettin163 no way
@@endoffate5475 nah not really, but they are really really close.
Funny, I first listened to this on my phone and thought "wow, the Epiphone totally" but then I listened again at home on a better sound setup and liked the Yamaha. Disclosure: I have the Yamaha A5R but I've been looking for something mahogany with a more mellow sound. I also really like the Gibson J-45 sound but just can't justify the price of the real Gibson, which does sound better than the Epi for 3x the price.
I own two martins, an epiphone masterbuilt, and an epiphone pro1 plus. The 100 dollar epiphone sees the most action. Don’t ask me why, maybe it’s the experience of when I do decide to play one of the others,it’s like wow! The point being, the pro 1 sits on a stand and I can just pick it up and play it and for the money it sounds and plays excellent. I bought it as a campfire guitar but it’s become more than that.
For the price difference, I'll take the Epiphone.
It’s just like anything else because I have Air Jordan’s doesn’t mean I’m a super star. I own both Gibsons and Epiphones I’m a fairly good guitarist. I have an Epiphone Hummingbird, If I bought the Gibson no one would notice my guitar playing improved by $4000.
Hearing it in the video it's clear they did an amazing job on the Epiphone of the inspired Gibson J45. The difference is pretty small which makes it a super great value. Its too bad it doesn't have the anthem system in it though.
Get the masks off
