      Thorpe is not sprinter, he is distance swimmer, sometimes he swam 100 free. Dressel would destroy win in every race except maybe 200 free.

    • @jaxlone997
      @jaxlone997 2 года назад

      There must be a reason for that. Your body is a bit more inclined when looking forward, and maybe that’s a strategy to do stronger strokes when sprinting. For long distances it’s important to glide well so you shouldn’t rly look forward, but when sprinting it’s a different strategy

  • @joequillun7790
    @joequillun7790 2 года назад

    Freestyle begins after 12 slo-motion shots of his entry. 1/2 way thru the video. I like the fact, you can see he doesn't glide after his recovery is complete. So many new swimmers have been taught to have both hands side by side in frt, gliding, before the pull or "catch" . Swimmers like Sun Yang, or Katie Ledecky, (and others) don't do it either. I still don't understand the reasoning for the technique, and haven't had anyone explain it.

    • @skiiipawbs
      @skiiipawbs 2 года назад

      You see that more in distance swims

    • @PhiyackYuh
      @PhiyackYuh 2 года назад

      Before you can catch arm full of water you need to glide. How would a beginner swimmer knows if he or she can sets up the catch if you are spinning your wheels? Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Go watch the best swimmers in their warm up. You will see a glide. Theres a difference between sprint and distance swimming.

    • @cloudstrife8436
      @cloudstrife8436 2 года назад

      My trainer told me it's to learn to depend on your leg stroke more so than your arm catch. It does make a lot of sense to someone like me that doesn't utilize leg strokes much at all in long-distance sessions.

    • @dropdeadsprinterevan
      @dropdeadsprinterevan 2 года назад

      Sun Yang literally uses the technique you described! It's important for a swimmer to learn distance per stroke (catch up free) before shortening down to a shoulder driven stroke.
