Atheism is like religion in that they are much more than just feelings and emotions. It takes a big man to leave faith, but in your case you didnt have saving faith. Saving faith is not just going to church from time to time, but denying our will and following Jesus. Sacrifice and loyality are two things it takes to save the soul and for Jesus acknowledgement, not just going to church or doing a few precepts, like singing hymns and praying or reading the bible. Which goes back to what i said at first.
