      @lupash 6 дней назад

      @@aritrasarkar4435 I have relative pitch after years of studying music and practice. At the end of the day it’s just about practice and exercise! I’ve studied composition at the conservatory, so it comes rather easy. What you can’t sort by ear you can do it with music theory and viceversa. I usually start with the tonality and the main bass and harmonic structure, then specific chord extensions.

      You lost me towards the end lol. I learnt the keyboard for 4 yrs but can play 6 or 7 th Grade Keyboard pieces with enough practice, but yeah, my music theory is lacking severely... sucks but in college, there is very little time to learn music theory... I wish that after college , I can reach the level you can play at and more importantly interpret the song as well as you can do. To your channel's growth, cheers 🥂 @@lupash

      @@quimicaplus5327 first thing is to establish the tonality, then the chord progression structure and usually specific chord extensions in the end. Been a musician all my life and I do this rather “automatically” by now. Practice and study will get you to a point where you can even mentally “see” the harmonic structure as soon as you listen to anything.

      @@임형규-f5b ty man. It’s about time spent studying and practicing. I’ve studied composition and played music since I was a kid. At some point you just develop a “built-in” sense of music harmony and theory that merges together all you’ve studied and practiced through the years. Sometimes doubts you have “by ear” are solved with music theory, sometimes the opposite.

  • @GalenDeGraf

    What an interesting way into his modulations! I think some key (pun alert) features of this chord (D7/A) are that: 1) The dominant sonority is instable, and that is an asset when moving to a new tonal area. In this way, it can signify that we’re moving somewhere even when it isn’t "V" of the new place. 2) It can be functionally dominant to tonicize chords (as an applied V, a tritone sub just above the chord of resolution, or even resolving "deceptively" to roots a step up). 3) The inversion makes it harmonically unclear. Much like being unstable, this helps link between tonal areas. In the case of the chord D7/A for example, it could also sound like Asus chord depending on context. 4) The dominant sonority is well suited to parsimonious voice leading to arrive at new harmonies, and that type of motion is a perhaps a hallmark of Collier‘s style, yielding the most unusual tonal goal chords. (When the bass moves smoothly, that can also be a rationale for the choice of inversion.)
