I prefer medium, hard is good if you’re sculpting things that are not organic, such as robots.

It really depends on the size of the mould. I use around 5kg of resin for a full mask mould

I used a universal mould release from smooth on my latest mould. If you watch my latest videos on making a last of us inspired mask you can see the full process. The clay came out of the mould much easier! Still I few tricky bits but no where as time consuming.

Yes or course, it would be difficult to do it with this particular process. To add an armature, you’d be better off moulding a hand with a 2 part mould to allow you to lay the armature in place, making sure it’s not to close to the surface of the cast.

@@creaturefleshmasks hi there, cab you tell me roughly how much silicone it would take to make a simple head n shoulder mask like yours? Also as its my first time what material is the cheapest to make the mould with?

It depends on the mask design. The easiest way to calculate how much silicone you need is to weigh the clay you sculpted your mask with and use 70% of that weight in silicone. A standard head and shoulders mask comes in at around 2kg. There’s lots of good clay to silicone calculators online too that will give you the amount you need. Fiberglass and general purpose resins are the cheapest but you at least want a good gel coat for the first layer to capture the most detail. Hope that helps!
