Explaining my absence from You Tube 2.
I'm so sorry Rebecca. I can relate to your story, I was bullied at school, even by teachers. And now, I'm bullied at work, and if I ask for help, the situation worsens.
Do you mind me asking what sort of a work place you work in? If the situation worsens when you ask for help, it does not sound like a good working environment to work in.
@@memyselfandaspergers1331 As an autistic person, I'm underemployed, and despite the fact that I speak five languages, I scrub toilets for a living.
@@passaggioalivello Aww bless you. Which 5 languages do you speak?
@@memyselfandaspergers1331 English, French, Italian, modern Greek, a little bit of Spanish, a little bit of German, and Italian sign language.
@@passaggioalivello Nice. I speak English and bits of French and Spanish.
Edit: I've now listened to this video and enjoyed it very much. It's painful to reflect on these issues but they are important, and for what it's worth I think it's a numbers game. A sole autistic person trying to reason with a group of neuro-typical people who are engaged in reinforcing and status-shaping their group is about as likely to succeed as a sole allistic person trying to enter a serious discussion going on between a group of autistic people. I honestly think our chances are better in smaller groups than is typically the case favoured by educational and other institutions. Partly this is because our numbers in society are relatively low (but probably higher than anyone thinks) but also because on our own we don't necessarily gravitate to forming alliances as a social strategy so even if the difference in numbers isn't intrinsically great, we're still in the minority because we'll try to solve problems ourselves. Just a theory. I'm sorry that you experienced that level of social rejection. It's very familiar to me, and not only in the obvious places: it can still be subtly applicable even among polite, friendly groups of adults. That business of _marking us as different_ seems to matter to many allistic people _if they're engaging in social status maximising at the time_ - and I don't think it's a conscious decision on their part necessarily, but it still hurts us in potentially long-lasting ways. Also, the concept teachers use for bullying is never going to work. It's not the case that we have a grievance against an individual or small number of people: our greatest horror is that the _entire audience_ (so to speak) sides with the 'bullies', so we're pitted not against an oppressor we can identify, but against _people in general_ which is a horrible state of affairs and no wonder it traumatises us. Sorry bit downbeat. I think you strike just about the right tone though: you're being constructive and yet at the same time honest. That's not an easy 'sweet spot' to hit. Right, back to "Orfeo", time for "Possente Spirto", just done the super bassy bit with the ferryman! This new recording is SUPERB by the way, if you like old music. They're using microphone tricks to make the bass much more prominent than would otherwise be the case (for example the harp - very loud lower register compared to a live harp). These studio enhancements are appropriate in my opinion. - original comment is retained below because I don't want to be misleading or confusing xxxxx Hi Rebecca, you're the only person capable of making me pause my new Prégardian "Orfeo" to listen to your video. Excellent stuff as always. Still looking to you as a massive role model, but cleared my account out a couple of times since first getting into you, and sorry I was so - for want of a better word - fawning before. Very happy you exist and very glad to have you to learn from as well as enjoy listening to. I still massively fancy you of course, but I don't need to spam that at you because nobody needs that complication lol Not heard the video yet, need a wee first :P Any advice you're about to give about understanding people is going to be very welcome though. Lost count of the number of times I've found myself going "oh that's what you meant, sorry!"
Thank you for watching and enjoying my videos. Much appreciated. Socialising and trying to fit in when you are Autistic is not easy. As allot of the time no matter how hard we try at it, we just do not succeed at those things.
@@memyselfandaspergers1331 Thank you I'm glad - and a little blushy - to be seen by you Rebecca. You're absolutely right of course - no matter how hard we try or how close we think we surely must be to what's being demanded of us, those times are the very ones in which we get sniffed out! It's tempting to say "so I'm done with that, wash my hands of it, and if they're nice they'll be nice and if not, I don't want to lead them to pretend to be nice, better to know" - but that's easy to say sat in front of the computer; not so much when it's someone who has power over our life. The excellent flipside of course is that we have absolute guarantees of authenticity, even in a world that only seems to get faker every day. Even the fact we can't avoid the message of non-acceptance is still a true signal from reality. It boils down to this: if the vast majority of people are fine with all the silly things that shouldn't be the way they are, and if a minority of people - disliked by that majority - *aren't* ok with all that and can conceive of a more honest world: then I don't mind the dislike if that's the ticket of entry to a reality that doesn't fake it til it makes it. Maybe I don't _want_ to continue to manufacture a dangerous word of lies right up until the bombs fall! Sure we don't have _power_ so we can't change it, but imagine if that penny ever dropped for people: that the lies-upon-lies society had brought about the literal apocalypse! Our place at that time would just be to avoid smugness and knuckle down to helping people, even in really little ways. Of course hopefully it won't take nuclear armageddon for us to be loved!!! lol I'm rambling. All I can say is I'm very glad you exist, very glad that the world has you in it (yes I just said "innit"), and it's a delight to see you thrive and stay the course of reaching out to other people who doubt themselves yet know they're not wrong. Have a wonderful weekend; sorry for so many gazillions of words. Very much looking forward to the next time, but there's no hurry take your time, I like looking forward to you xxx
Thanks, Rebecca, for illustrating and confirming my quirks and mannerisms
@@adamwilder2943 You very welcome.
Wish you a better outcome
Yes, I can relate. Furthermore dyspraxia is my thing.
Oh right. I see.
Congratulations Rebecca.
Thank you very much. Much appreciated.
Mental health still does not have the dignity it deserves.
True, which is why Mental health in the UK is still not quite there yet.
I was ment to say "Perfect partner or spouse." I do apologise for any misunderstanding caused.
Discrimination against neurodivergent people is the oldest form of discrimination.

yay Rebecca!
Have you read the book or would you like to read it?
I should read it, but I have a lot on my schedule right now, was just excited to see you girl!@@memyselfandaspergers1331

Merry Christmas Rebecca, great performances 🎉
Thank you very much. Much appreciated. Merry Christmas to you as well.
Hi Rebecca, thank you. Happy holidays.

Thankyou for the review, I haven’t read the book but think it would be worth the read
It certainly is and I highly recommend it.
I am sorry that I forgot to sat that Daniel M Jones's You Tube channel is called The Aspie World.
Thank you ,my husband has to wake me up in thr middle of the night or laughing at random funny 😂stuff
Yup laughing in my sleep giggling im 59 😂
I haven’t seen the video but I will try and find it to watch. As you describe it it must have been very overwhelming for the young lady. I wish that people were more thoughtful and patient.
I know we do live in a world where everything has to be done just like that. Also people do not understand it unless they have been through it themselves.
I didn't know the video, it's interesting. Thank you.
Thank you very much. Much appreciated. It's on The National Autistic Society You Tube channel. Just type in to the search engine Make it stop National Autistic Society and you should find it.
Another good video. I do miss going to national autistic society night outs, but now days i work nights so cant go to them anymore. Hope youre all doing well though.
Thank you very much. Much appreciated. I am doing ok thanks.
Thankyou for the recommendation 📖

"the bible of Asperger's syndrome" at least to me, great video Rebecca
Thank you very much. Much appreciated. I have just watched your video of you talking about this book. Asperger's and me. Personal perspective. It's very interesting and I can relate to it.
Only just found you, I'll be listening from now on. 🙂 many thanks.
Thank you very much. Much appreciated.
Good advice, I’m always on the lookout for quiet spaces
Thank you very much. Much appreciated.
Masking is torture. The demasking process is not so easy either, especially for a late-diagnosed adult.
I know it is, but sadly we have to be ok and happy especially at work to be professional and keep our jobs.
@@memyselfandaspergers1331 unfortunately it's true. Neurotypicals are weird.
Unfortunately.
I am autistic and had be in special Ed. I still hate my parents 37 years later. Horrible school like a prison
the short hair woooks good girl, I like short hair, yeah being happy and ok all the time is real problem for me too, it's rough out there xoxo
I have my hair tied back in a low pony tail actually. I had my hair down for the Christine Mcguinness video I did last week.
@@memyselfandaspergers1331 that looked good too xoxo
Thank you very much. Much appreciated. To be honest being ok and happy all the time seems a bit unrealistic.
@@memyselfandaspergers1331 YES, it is, and I really like that Insight in this video, and it's important to keep in mind. Just gotta keep yourself Alive, like Queen says, and maybe the point of life is to have some Extremes, or at least colorful weather twists in your emotions in our lives? Who knows.
I'm learning that I'm autistic at 32. I'm through phase 1 of the assessment and he suspects a combination of autism, OCD and ADHD mixed with a fuck ton of trauma.
Oh right WOW! That sounds very overwhelming and I am sorry to hear about that. Maybe you need councilling for it.
Interesting. Thanks.

Hi from a mom in Arkansas, US. I can tell you really practised that song. Nice guitar playing. Those were alot of words to memorise! Im proud that youre able to sing on your channel! Good job! How old are you & do you live with your familt?

Is this part of ASD? I never knew! I thought this was just some quirk of mine, not related to my ASD.
It is a part of ASD yes.
is tht not something everyone does having those things u think about and you just start laughing out loud i do that alot lol just wandering cos im like that lolol i used laugh so much as kid i couldnt stop id be rolling on the floor uncontollably laughing id laugh so much it hurt n make me cry lol the saying piss yourself with laughter was very true for me but i had train myself to control it because it was embarassing
Aww bless you. Everyone does yes, but Autistic people laugh longer and more than others about whatever it is we are laughing at.

@@memyselfandaspergers1331 ok cool
Don't make up material for your comedy routine while out in public if you have Aspergers.
I know that's why I said in the video if you do end up laughing out of random, just say "What I am laughing at has nothing to do with you. You don't know who it is so you're not going to find it funny."
@@memyselfandaspergers1331 oh ok, cool. I wasn't really criticizing. My comment was more just being witty in general. :)
Oh ok.
When you laugh others will always think it about them. They need to get over themselves! 😅
That's why in the video I say when you end up laughing out of random, just say "What I am laughing at has nothing to do with you. You don't know who it is so you are not going to find it funny."
Normal doesn’t exist, as I see it.
Tell me about. Normal is just boring and being like the vast majority of people.
You are truly amazing, and this is so good to help others, my grandson has autism and I will be showing him your channel as it is so encouraging and inspiring for him to give him confidence, you display such confidence, truly inspiring Rebecca, lots of love from Bernie (Duffy) xx
