Love this series. Thank you and as a native Texan, it will always be Rio Grand! :)
God bless Dixie! Beautiful monument 😃 Deo Vindice
What a fantastic video!! I’m starting a binge and I can’t wait!! This has also unlocked a new level of an existential crisis I’m going through and the realization that I am so woefully uninformed and uneducated on this topic in particular. Came for the US history, staying for the indigenous peoples’ history because dear god have we been bamboozled.
R.I.P
And a really terrible president Second only to Biden
Interesting stuff. And you're cute.
Ngl he looks like Scarlett Johansson
Found out about Aspasia during my play through of Assassin's Creed Odyssey. I killed her though because he planned the death of my boi Pericles hahahaha
my ancestor to America in 1632 was an indentured servant to Virginia but then ended up in MA and his son fought in King Philip's war after Windsor CT was burned down. The desire of elites to divide America on race rather than class persists today as she mentioned, the DNC woke agenda is one manifestation, where they divide black and brown people (whatever that means ) against white people (and some asians)
The Holy Roman Empire was neither Holy, Roman, or an Empire
Factually women leader cause way more conflict and plundering.. sounds sexist to say, but stats don’t lie..
Now the Chinese send us fentanyl
Ah, the positive side of Ottoman slavery
Que pena eu estava pensando em acompanhar seu canal mas Cadê a dublagem eu tinha vindo pelo vídeo que tava nublado
Andrew Jackson firing people and filing the government with loyalists sounds very similar to what is happening right now!
I so appreciate your work.
I'm blown away. I'm a retired historical researcher in Canada who has worked for Native groups on both sides of the Canada-US border. War of 1812 era material is often argued as evidence in my line of work. I don't think I've ever heard an American commentator give such a fair objective (and efficient) account of the War of 1812 before. Good on you. Especially liked that you included in your unsurrendered Indian Territory the old northwest and parts of Canada. Agree that neither Canada nor US won, but indigenous people lost out. Canadian writers usually stop at Detroit and don't go further west. The War of 1812 was fought all the way to the Pacific, albeit with fewer people scattered further between. Despite claims about the significance of the Battle of New Orleans as a US victory, Canadian and Native American volunteers (with some British leavening) had secured the entire Missouri and Mississippi River systems north of St. Louis by 1815. They were dumbfounded when they learned their hard won victories had been traded away by the British negotiators at Ghent in exchange for the return of southwest Ontario. Excellent work on your part.
Wow what a great comment to wake up to! I appreciate the thoughtful response and it means a lot coming from someone who has worked in the field. Thank you
americans are always saying "no one won the war" like they didn't fail their goals and get successfully repelled which is definition of losing
We wanted free trade and sailors rights. We got what we wanted.
@@timbuktu8069 okay baby girl
Would love a video on the consequences of the Monroe Doctrine. That's gotta be a loaded Panama Canal
Horse shit.
There’s this thing called modernity and nations and history.. we are in the age of communications… Germany wasn’t a country until politics is the understanding that takes years. Also Ukraine wasn’t a country until USSR. This quite literally true from a materialist perspective. There was no “German” or “Italian” until modernity. I of course am an idealist who believes in gene theory. I believe in the biological ontology of nations. Something evident and obvious to the ancients
I think They literally interpreted parts of the book of revelation to mean that in the end of days there will be a spiritual successor or reincarnation of Rome and it will be Holy. That explains the wacky name
Another great video! And when do we get rid of Andrew Jackson on the $20? 💵
If they do then they might put the future " border czar" Holman or Trump on it!!!😮😮😮😮😮😮
The Fact that the queen banned him and made him travel a more perilous way for the things he said, kinda proves his point, being ruled by women is monstrous. Also, a historian once point out. England had more conflicts under queens vs Kings.
My wife and I both read the whole book, but couldn’t attend last night… a friend’s father passed and we were invited to shiva observance. Glad to catch the discussion post-facto.
I expect the karaoke breaks to continue during this series. Don’t disappoint!!😉💙🎤🎶
This is great! A quick concise video which I could enjoy while making my quesadillas :)
Emily for President!! 🇺🇸
didn´t george washington own several slaves?
Yeah he had slaves till he passed at 67. His own and managing others slaves too at mt vernon. And i believe he had to use the whip a little. He died of a throat issue that would routinely be cleared up today with antibiotics. 300 slaves. At least 13 us presidents owned slaves. Earlier this year they found some jars of food that were for future use at mt vernon underground probably packaged by kitchen slaves. On the news they said we could maybe plant one of the fruit seeds to grow a tree, but it is really a long-shot at best. Fascinating i think. And his teeth were not really wood like everyone thinks they were They were made from animal teeth human teeth and probably slave teeth. He didn’t smile much. 😮
This is exactly what I’m teaching right now in my 8th-grade U.S. History class. Thank you, Emily, for presenting a balanced and entertaining view of history in such a clear and concise way!
I learnt this only the other day funnily enough. I go to my mum. Tears in my eyes as i write this, She had balls the size of coconuts. I know it could have been better described, but i'm a little pissed as i write. Had my mother, a working class keeper of the line had a university education she could have been something other than a wife raising 4 little mobsters, Growing up i was constantly in awe of her ability. She was always writing to politicians about the state of play. Her handwriting was off the charts. Napoleon could have engaged her to write his Constitutional Charter of 1814. She committed suicide alone. I love you mum.
I know (hope) this is intended with some irony, but...🤨
"Aztec empire", "Incan writing"... 🇺🇸 Lives in the XIXth century, historically speaking
Sorry, population estimates you give have absolutely no scientific evidence. 50 million 😂, you need to read some real study, specifically those made before 🇺🇸 scholars began giving stupid estimates with 0 agricultural and archaeological data
I think those myths are only widespread in the USA. They aren't very diffent of usa myths about Spanish speaking countries
Of Hamilton and Jefferson’s affairs, the irony that Hamilton made his public and it ended in…tragedy…and Jefferson’s was *way* worse but he came through unscathed during his long life.
Jefferson was not as rich as you think he was.
Huh. Weird takeaway from this video.
@@AntiSocialStudies Don't be defensive. You called him one of the wealthiest Americans, and that's just not true. He was in debt most of his adult life. Read the section on debt on the website you used as a source for this video, and tell me you would still call him that.
This is a great lesson summed up nicely. I grew up mostly in the South and I was indeed not taught most of this in k-12. I think the only thing I was taught was that the South was plantations because of fertile land which caused a divide on where slavery was and would be the start of the rift for the civil war. I am considered lucky that I had teachers acknowledge that the civil war was about slavery but they had to emphasize any state test you must put down state’s rights. And in college I took the US history class that was 1880-current which was way more complete but I still lack knowledge of this time period. I was taught that slave labor didn’t start as racial with indentured servants and the slow use of slaves from Africa. It slowly became race based over time. There was no mention of the upper class purposely creating racial divisions or the switch to chattel slavery was to stop the growing free population of former indentured servants. I’ve somewhat have been slowly learning this but thank you for putting it so concisely
OHIO is a cool place! The Cincinnati area has a number of historical sites plus the Freedom Museum. Let me know if you come visit!
I don't want to live in the 1800s. Why do magatards want to live in the 19th century
For anyone who takes this video as a sign to romantisize Jackson consider he was also the man whos responsible for the Trail of Tears,
He was so great
That’s his best deed imo, a truly great man
Stop drilling you already struck oil
It's human nature to be negative towards loud, low IQ people saying stupid things. I think that explains the comment more so than taking it literally as a statement. Everyone knows women are capable of more than making a sandwich.
I like that you're making a video, but still speaking quietly as to not disturb others. I appreciate youtubers like you 😊
"To the winner goes the spoils."
He was also a racist
Sounds cool AF! Thank you E! On my list as of NOW
Bad things happen when you f’ with God’s Creation. American Indians gave their wife’s up to sex with a so called “Black Slave”. Lewis and Clark. Crazy Sh!t
