As a Barotrauma player, this spells the end of the campaign quite often. One delay we bounce back from, then it’s another delay, maybe a break, someone had to go to work today, someone had to study. Sucks when it does happen but it is what it is.

My best friend and some of his friends were renting a small house and I ended up moving in. We all played a game that was played every week for three years, because most of the players lived in the house together. I’ll never get a group that consistent in my life again.

I've played in so many games that die like this, it's so sad when the DM is really good. Some people don't know a good things when it's right in front of them. I watch these people, and only the reliable ones get invited when I DM (legit excuses don't count).

one of my players lives real far away so we can only play a few sessions per year, so i make sure that everyone knows when waaay in advance and to not make any plans. you can only imagine my fury when one of my players the day before session ends up saying "i have to drive 7 hours to pick up an instrument, sorry :/"

My dm would just say. "Okay we'll play without you."

When someone can't make it, their character phases out of existence, any plot-required item is left behind but useful gear will be with them when they disappear. Works well in my scifi game because their character is sleeping off a hangover, or frozen in cryo sleep if they're gone for extended periods of time
