Epsom Christmas Lights Switch-On 2024
We join the case of Cinderella and the Mayor of Epsom for the switch on on Epsom's Christmas Tree 2024. There was a small fun-fair and some stalls but other than the tree there was nothing particularly Christmassy. I've chosen the best bits and put them into this video for you so enjoy.
Filmed 22nd November 2024, early evening.

    Very nice, interesting that only white lights are used? As a kid I enjoyed the bright colors and the glass globes, I also remember actual candles on our tree, while supervised of course. I may shop for a Christmas pudding made with lard (suet) yum.

    I lived in Fetcham from 1970 - 1990. Much has changed along trhe footath by the railway. The standing water on the footpath is due to blocked culverts under the railway embankment. It only used to flood VERY occasionally, when the river was very high. Also much change after you go under the railway bridge at the end of Cannon Way. This are used to be an overgrown orchard from Canon's Court farm. Often used to pick apples from the old trees there. I have no idea when it was cleared and replanted. The large "interstingly shaped building" at 15:50 is (or was) "Canon's Court". It was a farm house, and was used by the monks from somewhere like Nonsuch Abbey. In the 1970's it was a childrens home, but later was sold and convcerted into flats. I believe that the cellars to the house are brick built barrel-vaults. Many of the surrounding roads were supposed to be named after Canon's Court, but the developers (Or the planning authority) could not spell, hence "CANNON Grove" not "CANON's Grove " etc.

  • @Julian-1111
    @Julian-1111 19 дней назад

    I like it, quite creative. Here’s how it was made (probably); The original tree was sectioned into manageable pieces. Coated with liquid silicon rubber. The silicon rubber mold(s) were then painted with a mixture of Aluminum (aluminium) powder and liquid resin, repeated several times to create the desired thickness. The silicon rubber mold was then removed and discarded, resulting in a plastic/aluminum casting, an aluminum(powder) reinforced plastic similar to fiberglass having substituted aluminum powder instead of glass fiber. All of the parts were then reassembled using a liquid hot glue gun, the twigs were just added later. When you tap on it, the sound is more plastickey, a pure aluminum would sound more tinny. Still, Impressive and creative.

    I don’t see a level of skill in this if it takes a paragraph of meaningless word salad to explain it. Michelangelo wouldn’t have wasted a nice piece of marble such as this. I sometimes wonder if ancient statues with missing limbs and heads, were in fact a screw up by the sculptor, then removed and blamed on vandalism, I mean, if you make the head too small, what else can you do to avoid embarrassment.

    Not very creative/artistic, doesn’t lend itself to being outdoors, it’s going to gather litter, water spots etc, and be impractical to keep clean. Maybe in a commercial foyer, hotel/office? Also if it had color (colour) changing for viewer interaction, mood, seasonal, sound interaction? Possibly curved glass would make it more interesting to look through. I give it a 1 on scale of 10.
