The Slow and the Mildly Agitated...
Норвегия
Добавлен 1 мар 2015
Me, a 40+ year old decrepit grumpy guitarist exiled in Oslo after being banished from Cornwall, finds himself at the mercy of "Froggie", a 1960 (possibly 1959) Austin Healey Sprite, which the wife owns...
The car has many issues - though nowhere near as many issues as I have. It is very naughty. I'm no mechanic, but I do a fair line of hot air and liquid bullshit. This is our (Froggie's and mine) story...
I still think it should have been crushed...

Well done my friend thank you for your care foranimals kids family's ❤from GLASGOW SCOTLAND U. K
Hi
Hi! 😁
sweden
SYSTEM BOLAGET
😂
Fingers crossed for nice weather! 😁☀️
That helmet should be a lot tighter
You're quite right, thought I have adressed the issue in the next video...
awesome dude seems cool hope you have fun
"PromoSM"
"Knockin' the tops off the ugly ones"? 😔 Dude! You can do better than that... 😁
🤭😉
That SHIT WOZ FAAANNIE! Cheers for a highly entertaining and educational video! Happy Seasons 🎉🎄🙏🖖
Thanks! Merry winterisms to you too ☺
Froggie’s looking good. You must be pleased with progress so far. Well done
Thanks! There's still loads to do, we've just been driving as much as we can and enjoying it! ☺
@@TSATMA Excellent. I’m doing the same with mine 👍
😁"Rolling restoration" 🤭 I hear you bro! 😳
"Measuring is the enemy of precision". That paddle bit needs to go back in the drawer! Drill a smaller hole with a regular bit and finish that with a reamer. Got lucky there, and you had good reason to be nervous.
Hi, Thank you for taking the time to make your ‘Froggie’ videos. I realise it takes time and effort your efforts were very entertaining and informative. I have recently bought a similar Frogeye (after selling my first nearly 40 years ago) and it was very nice to see what is possible to repair with enough skill, time and cash. Many thanks again.
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately I had to abandon the series due to lack of time (and skill and cash ;) ) We have driven loads this last summer and Froggie is still on the road, none of the fixes mentioned in the last video have been challenged - I hope to make some more videos again for next season. Once again, thanks for watching!
They work! I just have so much crap in my room that the sound waves get lost and don't know how to find their way back out.
They're certainly promising! I'm a bit worried that when I pile in all of my crap then the room will be too dead...
@@TSATMA Well, then you could add some hard surface reflectors to the walls to liven things up a bit.
funny dude!
🐧 : Oh my fluff ! I've just discovered this ! How cool to see this ! Sooo much gear !! audio and DIY ! 🎶🎹🎸💻🗜🛠 Oh Wow !! 🤩 Ah ! I was always wondering how Grabbo could hold the drum sticks ! 👌So much work ! Thanks for sharing it !!
Thanks Mate! :) Glad you appreciate it! Off to check out your podcast (now I've found it :D )
That's a lot of work! Pretty cool. Thanks for this.
It is, they don't all take that long though 😊
I find oil pressure will drop to 10 psig at idle when the engine is at proper running temperature, engine 180F range, oil 200F range. When air temperatures run high 90s to 100F, the oil temp upwards of 210F, a low rpm stop will see 7 psig. That's an eye opener. It is the positive displacement oil pump at low rpm. 25-30 psig at highway cruising speed says it's ok. I see the same low pressures on my rebuilt engine, but I'm not so concerned after mechanics racing these cars tell me 10 is ok for hot oil, low rpm stops. Gear box popping out of 4th is internal soft metal fork wear. Hard push on the shift lever into gear does that. My gear box had 1st popping out violently. When I rebuilt the gear box I found the shifting fork slot over sized from jamming the gears, so it was re-brazed, closing the slot so the fork could push the hub assembly into proper position again. These are 1950s low priced cars, keeping them on the road is a big challenge. The smiling faces when they see our cars at car shows, have no clue what we go through keeping them on the road. Happy Motoring...
Great reply! Thanks Calvin! That puts my mind at rest a bit as otherwise the motor is running amazingly, L overtook someone doing over 60mph yesterday - it was very noisy and I think I need new underwear... I keep my fingers crossed that you get some runs in before the snow - good luck!
Nice! Speaking of sacrilege, convert it to electric? Solve all your problems at once? (... waiting for virtual smack from afar.) Seriously, I got a bit of a jump when you went to lift the "hood" and the entire car came up!
:D Hi Rob! I'd have no problem in converting it to electric, when Both engines that I have are burned out beyond repair ;) Not sure if it's legal here though... The bonnet is the biggest problem, and the only thing I can't really do on my own ;)
All looks good to me! Well done! Mine looks awful but runs well. Glad you’re still posting videos.......nearly there? Let me know if I can help, probably not much as I’m either in the America’s or the UK......
Thanks Jago! Glad to know you're there if I need help, even if it's someone to laugh at me! :) Looking awful isn't so much of a problem as it gets driven to hell, left in hotel carparks overnight, and goes shopping - there's a shopping trolley mark in the new paint already ;)
That’s why I’ve left mine shite! I’ve just hauled a load of sprite stuff back from the US for mates here in UK, that’s proper expensive postage without me! I’m on the Facebook if you get stuck, otherwise stay strong!
@@jagohurley1065 Thanks Mate! Are you on the Austin Healey Frog Eye Sprite page on Facebook?
OK ;) I see you are :D
Yup
Oh happy days, glad your out driving and the weather looks great there.
Hey Calvin! Aye, thanks, yes, weather has been great - the missus is happy she can drive her car again. How's your spitfire going?
@@TSATMA Rebuilding the rear wheel assemblies now, have the diff finished. Weather turning cold here, and rainy. Might get a few 100 miles before the 1st snow.
Congrats on nearing completion without loss of limb or digit to an angle grinder! A garage update is required.
Wotcha Rob! Nice to hear from you! Hope you're all well out there! Agreed, I should do a shop tour/ garage update :)
Glad it’s going!
Thanks Mate 😊
Liked your update, Not the Flintstones car any more.... Any accomplishment is hard work. This Dedication & Courage deserves heartfelt, sincere, and warm congratulations. Helps keep this pandemic from driving some over the cliff.
Should ha e used a k&k
Glad you’re still plugging away, mine nearly killed me, have a similar ethos; it drives but looks terrible!
Thanks Mate! That's the only way unfortunately, for a man of my limited talent and means :)
Wow, you have been busy. Well done!
Hi Dimadee!!! Had a look at your blog again today, I'm impressed to absolute awe with the craftsmanship and quality of your build! Keep 'em coming! :)
I have been a bit distracted over the summer with other projects. I need to get back on the wagon and push forward :-)
@@dimadee Looking forward to seeing you get it done! :)
Looking good. You can't take the car out though. You need to put a mic and speaker in there so you can use it as a reverb room.
Hehe! Fanks Rob! You hanging out only on here now?
I haven't been on facebook for months. It makes me feel morally unclean or something.
@@robabernathy4450 Yeah, it does that - I've still hanging on in there, though most of what I post completely alienates me...
Great video! Can you tell you are happy or not with nanoflex, please?do you have any video playing with it? Thanks
Thanks for the reply! Yes, I am happy overall with the Nanoflex, as I said in the video, I did two guitars, and one turned out OK. There were problems with that guitar in the video - I lost footage of the trouble shooting which took over a year and the string imbalance was never fully solved, so the pickup went into another guitar. I would however recommend the quick mount SH NFX AC over the permanent install.
@@TSATMA Thank you, Very useful. I order already one, but it will go straight to the luthier, because of my clumsiness .
STAY THERE YOU BOLLOCK
Wait 15 minutes before testing. Its picking up your mouth alcohol
"soft an floppy" they go good together... Oh the rust problem is just another adventure with these cars, one we all would like to avoid at most costs. Keep up the good work, and the cradle seems to have worked out well too ?
Im still waiting for the next video
Same
hello greetings from Argentina can you tell me what model it is?
cristian ramos Yamaha C45 ( he says it at 0:15 )
Lovell Menezes thanks!!! ♡☆♡
Doing a great job! Once you have all of the crap removed you can start putting the good stuff in, That is much more satisfying.
Thanks @dimadee! I'm still looking over you blog for inspiration!
I haven't seen anything from you for a while - how is the Sprite going? Looking forward to an update. :-)
i'm impressed about the engineering...
Hehe, it's not that clever when you look close up :D
The British made some good looking cars but that doesn't mean they were good at making them! You have begun the journey of most Frogeye owners (except the really rich ones). If you cut two MDF circles about 400mm diameter with a hole in the middle for your pipe, and then fix one to your frame and the other to your car mounting you can use a couple of quick action clamps to hold the car in any position. Also might want to look at moving the pivot point lower at the front to get closer to the centre of gravity - it makes a big difference.
Thanks for the advice/reply! I was thinking about the circle clamp idea after I saw it in your blog pics - I'll get round to it later. I really should move both the pivot points lower, I'd underestimated the weight imbalance in my attempt to keep it as low to the ground as possible to work on - I am a bit of a short arse y'see :D
Yep. When they were handing out long legs I was holding the door open!
BBRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...... Yep, I saw those big squirrel tracks in the snow.. :-) Now I know where our snow went, landed in your area with your's. We usually put heat tape in our gutter to melt the accumulating ice, the weight gets tremendous after awhile.
Aye, I will have to get some heating tape in future - haven't really needed it these past years...
You can see more detail on my blog 59bugeyesprite.wordpress.com
Thanks! I've been studying it very closely ;)
Try lifting one of the legs on the crane to get closer if needed. I had the same problem. Also, I used the indicator holes on the rear which are pretty solid.
That's actually how we (spoiler alert) got round the problem about 10 mins after the video went up! The indicator hole on the left side is just bondo and wishful thinking! Thanks for your input @dimadee, I really appreciate you sharing - it's been a great help already :)
The Slow and the Mildly Agitated... a Bugeye is a journey!
Oh my, this is a big job. Will be watching.....
Hi Calvin that it is! Thanks for coming along! I was just watching your last WNMC vid - I'm a bit jealous of the weather you have for February!
A prequel for more bug eyed carnage? just add copious amounts of alcohol, woo hoo ;)
The alcohol bit sounds like a GREAT idea :)
Hang in there mate. Most Frogeyes are like this when you start. The good news is anything you do will make it better. The record of my ongoing journey is at 59bugeyesprite.wordpress.com
Wow that's amazing (I thought I'd commented yesterday, comment must've vanished!) Your project looks amazing - it'll be quite an inspiration to me in the messy times ahead! :)
Thanks for posting the link!
I think Rondo was fearing loosing a leg to the buzz saw.
I would have to pit this one against others to rate it, but I'm sure it's in a class of it's own. :-)
Its that time of the year again the Nordic Nay Series engine screams again!!
Love it! "Nay Series" Hahaha! I'm stealing that :D
Contrary to the popular engineering parlance, very few of the A series engines I've worked on have ever purred. Most have nervously hobbled around, all too often missing the knackers yard.
I think maybe the mission impossible tune on your guitar would be good with this, what do you think
;) I did think of that but was worried about the copyright issues! Nice to see you back by the way, or some of you at least - well done on the weight loss, very impressive! I've had a quick peek at a couple of the new vids (I'z struggling to find time for youtube at the mo!), can't wait to see Vincent out and about!
Where is the next video?, it says to be continued.
Oops! Clean forgot! Sorry! I'll be needing that guitar for busking in the summer, an it's still not sorted after a year. Will see what I can do...
Sir Tony Robinson! I noticed on the string package the text stating it was bought at 4Sound. A swedish chain, also I could read the word "pris" which is swedish for "price". What's the story behind this, have you visited Sweden?
Haha, yes, good old Tony! It's Norwegian 4Sound, I live in Oslo, :)
Here's the duet I play in with Swedish guitarist Johan Comstedt... ruclips.net/channel/UCW_DRFLbMTXnmwShG8v8exg
Haha, ok, that makes sense, I thought the price was a bit high, prices in Norway are twice as high as in Sweden. But then again, so is the wages.
Nice one! I play classical guitar myself, that's what made me go to your page in the first place (I think it was that vid of you installing the Nanoflex. Which by the way is an atrocious system, I tested one myself and my reaction was the same as yours haha. Went straight back to the shop). Btw, is that an Alhambra your playing? I recognize the black tuners
I've found the nanoflex to be the best undersaddle there is, I've had one in an old yamaha for years, and the cheap yamaha I built up for Johan is really good - the one I did in the video turned out bad as the bottom of the nut slot wasn't perfectly flat - still haven't fixed it... The guitar with the black tuners is made by Norwegian luthier Yngvar Thomassen, Johan's is by the same maker too, we use schertler dyn-g on those ;) I'll check your vids later :)
