Stump’s Hot Rods

Classics and muscle cars. Let’s chat about them and learn together. I’ve been in the car hobby for 30+ years. Started my obsession with a 1967 Pontiac GTO. I have owned a few different cars over the years. I’m not brand loyal I’m just a car guy. Chevys, Buicks, Pontiacs, VWs, and Fords have been in my garage at one point or another.
1957 Chevy Front Fender Removal
Today, We remove the front fender from the 57 Chevy Belair wagon! The bottom of the fender needs to be patched and we have a patch panel waiting. I never imagined it would be such a hassle removing a fender. This one proved to be a challenge! First, finding all the places it is bolted to the fender well and front end is great. Second, I had a rusted in bottom fender bolt that would not budge, so it had to be cut out! I will show you where all the attachment points are. This is the video I wish I had before starting this process. The assembly manual helps, but to me it is not complete.

THIS WAS MY FIRST CAR WHICH MY DAD BOUGHT FROM A FRIEND IN 1980 FOR $200.00, USED, WHICH I WOULDN'T HAVE SOLD IT!!!
Nice! We all have those memories of ones that got away! Get yourself another one.
Install wiper arms
try giving the original cables an oil bath let en soak a few days in oil they will loosen up the control panel on the dash can snap the levers if they are too tight
210 not a belair
It’s a belair.
This upgrade was on the stock, ball bearing spindles?
Yes. The speedway kit uses the stock spindles. You get new bearings in the kit.
Where did you get that generator head?
I found it on marketplace.
The good ol days
So it looks like the drums only rotate 180 degrees, correct?
Correct
Going through thesamwthingonmy56.gotanammeticsn autowirekitgoing pretty good.

I have a 1928 big eight limousine with divider window between chaffeur compartment and passengers compartment The body is deep blue with black fenders and has dual side mounted spare wheels and runs smoothly It has only 30000 miles from new and is so powerfull !!!! The front seat is uphosltered in burgundy leather and the back seat and auxiliary seats and headliner in grey cloth Big monster of those days It runs efforless at a cruisnig speed about 60 effortless
No sorry mate. I have 2 speed aftermarket Raingear wipers installed and they just worked out of the box. Cheers
Going to do one soon on my buddies car.
Yes, it's yours to do with as you please... but now it's forever GONE!!! How do you give a car a funeral 😢
Shed a tear and move on with your head up knowing your car helped other cars live on.
Hey; Stump, are they any color coding that the colored wires go into the plug on the side? thanks
If I remember correctly, the plug only fits one way.
Would you know the original name of this movie?
I had this tape on VHS as a kid and it was one of my favorites!!
American Nitro
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS VIDEO FOR YEARS MAN!!! WOW!!
I know its been awhile for this video, but; did your heater core box cover inside sandwich together good? My cover has 3 like standoffs on the cover which keeps it from going together could I just cut them off? thanks
I'm not sure why yours is having issues. I did all my heater core work from the engine bay. The slides are knocked off and the cover comes off. the box insider the firewall is very small and I did not remove it.
what size tires and rims you running on that? Looks great
P275/60R15 BF Goodrich tires
Damn. The Anthill Mob really let The Bulletproof Bomb die.
Is the heater core in the way installing vintage air?the reason i ask my dash is torn all apart, doing complete restoration myself and dont want to do it twice installing heater core than removing heater core to install vintage air condition
I am not sure as I don't have vintage air. But one thing I know is that the heater core is contained in the protrusion on the firewall
Is there a rubber gasket to keep water out of the car??
No. It’s up under the cowl and out of the weather
Remove old master cylinder has 4 bolts , new duel master cylinder has 2 holes , manual brakes , which bolts do you use
There is a bracket between the firewall and master cylinder. Comes with all the bolts you need.
Manual disc / drum so no bracket that’s why I ask top studs or bottom studs . But mite be going power brakes then it’ll have bracket . Thanks
Thanks for the info!
Helpful !!!! Thanks 😁🙋♀
Glad it was helpful!
What calipers and rotors does it take? 69 to 77 gm mid-size calipers and rotors?
I believe those are the ones. Contact Speedway Motors to verify.
At the beginning of the video it showed the top cable over lapping the one that wraps around. Then later it showed it underneath the cable that wraps around the back. Which set up works good? I’m having an issue right now with the wipers one goes down while one comes up and that’s not right. So any advice would be great
Sorry for the delay. We’re you able to find a solution?
Can I replace the switch without removing the bezel?
I don’t think so.
Awesome video, can you make a video of how to connect all ducts under the dash? Does this video work on a 57 chevy 210 sedan also? thanks! William
It should work on the 210 as well. If I recall correctly you slip the cable over top of the flapper lever and lock the cable in with a clamp and screw. The flappers for the vent tubes are located under the fenders in the engine bay. They are a real challenge to get at and secure the cable correctly.
You have it listed as a 57 Chevy Bel Air Not 55
Correct. It’s a 1957
Nice video keep them coming :)
Thanks, will do!
Nice vid👍 I have a 4dr belair same color, was a heater delete from Georgia so I need to do my heater system at some point too. My question is about your brake system, where did you route your vacuum line? From carb? Or manifold?
You can do either but I have mine going to the rear carb vacuum. It is shared with the modulator to the transmission.

Here's ur proof that the new cars they build now are so ugly and have no character whatsoever.
Sure can’t beat the styling from the 50’s!
Great info
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this video. I'm planning to tackle converting my 57 and had no idea what all was involved. This is my first classic and while I've replaced countless brakes on countless cars, I've never changed to a different system. Did you keep your original rear drums? And were any modifications needed for the front hub bearings?
I kept the rear drums on mine. If you were to switch to rear discs you would need to buy a different proportioning valve. The front hubs are stock and required no modifications. The bearings in the kit fit as they should. Good luck!!
@Unfairsharemarketing did you have to flare the lines and install the fittings ur self when u bought the lines or did the come pre Installed?
Gorgeous!
Great cars for sure! Thanks for watching.
Hi There Stump, I just stumbled across your video, I've got a 28 Packard in need of a few small parts, lets chat.
Hey there! I’ve got next to nothing left from the Packard. A few pistons and a dome light is all I have left.
I'm surprised...mine made the cut...at 1.05. Thx
Nice looking car you have!!
Good old days! 👍🍻

Up or down to kill the heat
The switches turn on by sliding them down. Up position is closed or off. Thanks for watching.
Love the wagon👍
Thank you. Just got her on the road this weekend!
Hiya Stump! Great film!
Just seen you over at DD's Live.... pretty cool stuff man, glad I found you and hit that sub to see more
Thanks man. Dan is the man!
Thanks for the information.i am converting my 57 to the deluxe system from the recirculating style.i have all the parts except the main dash control. I can't afford the brand new ones for 400.00.i will do as you did and search swap meets and classifieds.
Thank you! I believe mine was $60 at the swap meet. It cleaned up real nicely with some 000 steel wool. Good luck with the conversion. 👍
Awesome video! I've had my '57 2 dr. BelAir hardtop since 1973 (my first car) and am having issues with my heater. Your video was very informative, helpful and much appreciated. Thank you and happy '57 cruzin!
Thank you. That’s awesome you still have your first car! A 57 yet 🙂 Good luck with your heating system repair. 👍
