The video should be titled Welcome to reality
very neat and clear explanations watching the first videos of yours sir, thank you so much for the information👏
Ah catchy intro.... dunno why I watched this, but fun I attended a similar talk at IIIT Jabalpur last year, where the design head of swiggy was talking about integrating design with products Curiosity brings me to design talks haha, lovely even though I am a CS guy
Thank you Ujjwal. That was really informative. And I do have a question for you. Basically I'm an engineering graduate looking for a change in career. I tried out various proffesions and I genuinely felt that UX is the career for me. Now the question is how do I get shortlisted? I am confident that I can clear interviews, but its really very hard to get one single interview. What is you suggestionn for me?
I have made a couple of videos around this, you can check them out on my channel, about how to land interviews and what not to have in your portfolio, that should help.
Very much relevant video.... Thank you so much ❤
Traveling and being one with nature really inspires and ignites creativity within oneself. Thanks for pointing it out as many people neglect traveling thinking it's a waste of time.
Glad you liked it :)
@@ujjwalxdesign Absolutely. I have been watching your videos lately and they are so on point and it's always better to have a senior in your career field guide you. Thanks for all the videos you put up your energy into making.
Thanks a lot Prateek, hope to grow this channel without compromising on quality and delivering something useful for everyone. Thanks for your kind words :)
I appreciate you maing this video. It's something many creative people go through. I liked when you said it's a feeling becasue that's what it is exactly. Once we realise that, its slightly easier to manage.
Glad, that was the intention :)
Hi sir i can get a job with out degree in UI ux
Yes make a kickass portfolio and freelance.
You have explained all the artists feelings in simple words. Thank you.
Thanks :)
Woah.. i thought i was the only one feeling that way.. thankyou so much for talking about it and helping me navigate through this.
Glad to know :)
This video was exactly what I needed. I've been wanting to discuss this topic for a while. Thanks, @Ujjwal, for helping me understand Imposter Syndrome.
I am glad shourya :)
Looking forward for more upcoming videos and guidance!
As i am fresher i may not having experience in real time project but interviewer ask me explain your project how you started and what are problem you faced , which design process do you used ? how can i answer
As a fresher the recruiter (if it’s a solid recruiter) will not expect you to have these answers, but they will test you how you try to answer these questions through logic and how honest you are about them. The best way to answer such questions is always to address the fact that “you currently don’t have any past experience solving it, however if you were to solve this is how you would approach” Also to have these answers prepared, watch other designers talk about it.
can the projects in the portfolio be dummy or redesigned projects?
They can be either, depending on your experience, if you are early on in your career it’s great to have some challenging dummy projects. Just be prepared to answer all the questions related to that project. You can also practice dummy presentations for those projects to help set yourself better.
i did not understand what you meant the word "dummy" did you mean copied
@@ge4391 which isn’t for an org, you just give yourself a problem statement to solve.
Hello! I really enjoyed today's tip as I was preparing for interviews and needed guidance. I was about to take a nap😴, but your video popped up on RUclips. It motivated me to get up and head to my study table. I took notes📓 on all the small points you mentioned and there I wrote 8 points😄. Now, I'm ready to tackle those interview questions! Here the some questions interviewer asked me - 1.Can you describe your experience as a UI/UX designer? 2. What motivated you to pursue a career in UI/UX design? 3. Can you explain the purpose of usability testing and how you conduct it? 4. How do you collaborate with developers, product managers and other team members during a design project? 5. How do you approach a new design project from start to finish? 6. What UI/UX design tools and software are you proficient in?. 7. Can you explain the importance of user personas and user journeys in your design process? 8. What tools and techniques do you use for wireframing and prototyping? 9. How do you ensure that your designs are user-centered and accessible to a diverse audience? Thank you.
Glad to hear that, I’ll take one question out of these, for design process I have answered in another comment. Can you explain the purpose of usability? The purpose of usability to get early feedback on your design or product so that you are able to make informed decisions based on the feedback. For a live product, usability also gives us qualitative feedback on what are the pain points of the user which may not have been apparent through analytics. Hope this helps.
Yeah, thank you 😊
A frequent question I have been asked is, what is your design process?
I think the best answer to this question is always contextual, your design process should depend on the project you are working on and the timelines you are given. According to that you decide what process do you want to follow. Emphasise on understanding and validating the problem statement, making multiple iterations and testing design directions.
Hi Ujjwal in my company we do UI designs only as it's a small company UX is not given importance. Now I want to switch the company, so can I apply for a job only as a UI designer also what should my portfolio look like as I have done no UX in my projects. I'm just waiting for your reply. Thx
You will be reducing opportunities for yourself if you just apply for UI roles and not take up product design/UX roles. Here is what I suggest you do: having good UI is a skill not many people possess, so that will be an advantage that you will have over others. The only filter that will impact your application is that you don’t have any part of UX in your portfolio. What you can do is spend sometime and do dummy projects focusing on doing some research on your own. Find a problem to solve around you, whose users are people in your circle so that user research becomes easier for you. Try to make your portfolio complete with both UI and UX projects. While you are at it, practice presenting your work, with your friends, or whoever you can find. Working in agencies also doesn’t give you ample opportunities to present your work. I think all this will solve for the gap you feel you might have.
Great summarisation Thank you 🙌 I find Variables a bit difficult to understand at the moment, will Variables be an important function in future or in big organisations ?
At the moment maybe not but in future it may become a steeper learning curve to understand variables once there is another update on it. I’ll try to simplify it in my upcoming videos.
@@ujjwalxdesign Thank you, A video on variables would be helpful.
How can we apply for the beta?
Go on the floating help icon at the bottom right, you will find the option.
Thank you so much Ujjwal for this summarisation, really excited to try the new features ✨
Yes! Let’s talk about them on this Thursday :)
Loved the video Ujjwal, really excited to try this update and excited to learn a whole new workflow for myself, was a little scared about AI part, but after listening to you I'm more excited because I see less replacement and more time saving

Absolutely brilliant points about communication, Ujjwal 👏👏👏✅
Thanks a lot!
Hi, if someone doesn't have an experience in this industry. Then what kind of projects he can show in his portfolio?
You can choose any product or a problem that you feel passionate about, however if you really specifically want to pick something, don’t do a landing page or a mobile app which has just login and a couple of listing screens, make something that showcases at least some level of complexity in user flows. It’s also great if you could design both desktop and mobile versions of it. A lot of companies which are hiring these days are either web dashboard products or consumer products which have a backend CRM or a user management dashboard which requires design efforts. Thanks.
@@ujjwalxdesign Do you consider 0-1 case studies? Or redesigns of any particular app and improving the flow?
Redesign is tricky, in most cases I have seen a worse outcome, if you are considering a redesign always pick a really badly designed product. E.g. government portals.
😂 Consider it as a flex but I'm feeling so confident now. Thank you so so so so much man ❤️.
After a lot of days of procrastination and doubting on my skills
I hope you got where you wanted to be!
Thank you for sharing the valuable information, and as a beginner, how important are the HCI Guidelines?
They can help you eliminate common mistakes that we may make as designers. When you are starting out it’s always good to have design principles and even some strong UI guidelines (you can choose any design system out there) to help you create and finish projects.
@@ujjwalxdesign Thanks! Really appreciate the insight!
Really glad to see these topics getting addressed 👍🏻
Thanks!
Thankyou so much man. So helpful ❤
Glad you liked it!
New designer here! Thank you for this video.
Good luck!
Entry level candidates should focus more on research than anything else. Not in their folio but in their practice. This is because it teaches designers how to make informed decisions. The rest of what he mentioned as far as visual design and figma is quite honestly completely irrelevant to your ability to create business value. We can teach you auto layout or throw a tutorial at you over the weekend. Bur we can’t teach someone the ability to take calculated risks or compromise time or features and drive collaboration by connecting the right stakeholders to overcome an impossible pitfall or failure…over a weekend. So no. As a hiring manager I could care less about your auto layout skills. I care a lot about how hungry you are to serve the user and what lengths you have gone to in order to at least envision what that approach to getting there would be for you.
Hey thanks for putting across your view point. Here is my take on it: you wouldn’t expect an entry level designer to have the ability to take calculated risk, prioritise features, etc. That’s something you learn with experience. You can not learn to work on a live product straight out of college. So at least the basics should be clear, if I have an option I would select a portfolio basis the points I mentioned in the video. But hey that’s just the criteria for portfolio selection, you do get grilled on your design thinking in interview rounds. Anyway, it’s better when I know who I am speaking with to address properly, so hey maskedvillianai could you help introduce yourself? :)
The answer is. Write your case study as if you’re telling one of your friends about the project in 5 min. You’d get something quite different than what we usually have. You’d be talking about things that you actually got excited about. You’d describe things as if they don’t know everything about the product. Or anything. You’d get to the fuggn point. You’d explain why, how, not just what. And you def wouldn’t be pulling out some template whilst in the middle of a conversation. Because my god, just stop with the case study formats. The rest is honestly BS, no one cares. We want to know you
Finally came to know there are a lot of red flags in my portfolio😅😅. I was very confuesd with my portfolio and this video came up in suggestion. Thanks a lot!!
I am glad you found this useful 🙌
Reality is often disappointing Ujjwal. After sending a mail or connection request on LinkedIn, these hiring managers often ghost you and leave your msg on read. Even if you say nice things about the company or how you can add value to the team and much more.
That is true Vaibhav, even I am not able to respond to every request I get because of the volume of requests. The case will always be that we have will have to try, and hope that we are relevant at that particular moment. And the ratio of response will never be 1:1.
Great video. Btw I like the coincidence of your name's first character and XDesign together going "UX"Design and that's what eventually you'd be talking about here :)
Oh yes, the name got easy that way ;)
Amazing tips!! As a UIUX Designer how can I connect with you or your community?
LinkedIn and Instagram, still building.
Why does Spinny have such small font? It's difficult to read. And why everything is so purple? Everything gets attention.
Fair point, some of these are stylistic choices. Would love your take on the design, feel free to share a Figma link :)
OK! Will do some work and get back to you shortly@@ujjwalxdesign
Hi, I've summed up some points after looking at the design of Spinny which can be improved For eg. CTA and primary text color are the same, and some more can improve the UX. (these all are my assumptions). Would it be ok to do a redesign of the screens and maybe document and share it with you? Or should I share it without the redesigns?@@ujjwalxdesign
@@utkarshut1099 You can share it on my LinkedIn.
