I also talk about my reading for the Holidays where I return to the Banished Lands of John Gwynne's imagination in the first novel of his sec...

My review of the first book in Alex London's Skybound Saga - "Black Wings Beating". A dark fantasy with diverse characters, LGBT themes and birds of prey as the anchor for a unique magic system, "Black Wings Beating" is a thrilling start to what will hopefully be a heartfelt and engaging series.

At around 16:50 your analysis descends into the abyss with what essentially amounts to you accusing the (white) author of racism because some of his (non-white) characters didn't survive. It was sad and tragic that this protagonist didn't survive -- we all wanted him to -- but to turn his death into yet another racial circus is unfounded, misguided and idiotic.

Its definitely worth it overall - I feel like it's almost an appendices to the musical. Also on the downlow, any idea where the bootleg might be? I too watched it in late winter, early spring but it disappeared and I would love to watch it again.

I felt the absolute same about the book!!! I did a video on how the book adaptation kind of failed in my eyes. I mentioned how the scenes when Sater wrote for multiple people everything felt jumbled, especially with Sater's writing style. I felt the book was its strongest when he wrote the small moments. I really liked how you mentioned the musical is a revue and how that doesn't translate well within a book setting. The big scenes with multiple characters, or the revue portions, did not translate well at all. While a scene like "Some Things Fall Away" or "Afternoon" were easier to read. Really well done.
