    This podcast is a Fairly new discovery for me, Im aware of James Finley's work at least via podcasts. I feel this conversation to my very marrow, my path has been long and winding and over the last decade through various experiences I've been led back to a path of christian Mysticism.. This podcast hit so deeply I'll probably have to listen to it a few times.. Just to really absorb it. Almost like good oolong tea, the flavor improves after the second or even third use. So thank you both of you. Kelly I've enjoyed alot of your podcasts keep up the excellent work ❤

    This video is very informative but I have only one criticism. I cut ties with the Christian God, church, Bible, etc, 20 years ago and never looked back because it made me a miserable wreck. I now identify as a Pagan because I have no need for any God who treats me like garbage, makes me feel like garbage. I don't have to feel "guilty" about just being human, and I don't.

    Thanks James and Kelly. Even though it’s hard to explain, it’s worth trying. And you both are good at making the mystical life more clear. As James said at 33:29, we cannot make an aha or axial moment happen. I think that desiring those moments is fine, but trying hard to be a mystic is probably counterproductive. Love God more than His gifts. And assume the stance of being in love. Peace.

    Licensed therapist here who's getting additional training in IFS and wanted to watch this but I admit I checked out after the " white men" statement. Maybe I could get passed it for the overall process , but I'm choosing not to and lost trust in it and honestly found every hmm hmm after from her to annoy me knowing she said that. can't support that. I know another channel thats just as IFS helpful and more inclusive.

    Sometimes I think he's too depressing for me to absorb easily, but with this particular talk I think there is good reason to hope for deep love and forgiveness in the face of unrelenting doubt and fear. I also really liked the ease and honest sincerity between the two of you. It speaks to your own goodness 'cause this is the first time I've ever watched you. Thank you for all your work for and with love.

    The part of your reflecting, about 50 year people: old white men in a disparaging way, activated a part of me that wanted to hide not say anything. so this shame-based fear part of me that wants to hide is courageously stepping out of my shell to offer another perspective🙂. As I work in the corporate world as an executive coach, it’s been my experience that it’s been men and women who are trapped and triggered in their unresolved parts. Just offering another perspective 😊. Thanks for listening.

      I noticed it as a white female and a part of me stepped backed and felt a sense that is lowers the value of this process if it's being run by a part with it's own issues. I just felt it was too reactive and said too easily as if it was normal.

    • @joalcurtis4219

      I had the same reaction, like somehow I'm once again part of the problem. I've decided to give grace, and its a reminder to all of us that our own biases can so easily be brought into therapy, and I'm sure I do it all the time regardless of my determination not to.

      I felt that maybe it was a little’rescuing’ of her ‘clients’ part. Rather than hearing more from the shaming part and the part being shamed? I felt that the dialogue was slightly slightly ‘shut down’ by this need to rescue and ‘normalise’ this part of her.

  • @sandylucas4279
    @sandylucas4279 Год назад

    With this demonstration it seems there were so many parts going on which led to story telling. Although it appears she found a lot of understanding. I'm not sure she was able to help the shadow part release and let go of the past so it could move on to be a more helpful part. Just my opinion.

    I have listened and read enough now, to know that James Finley is constantly mentioning his being rooted in Catholicism, even if he moreso uses the word Christianity. So that I don't understand what is meant by his mother's religious imagery and being disassociated in some Psychological way. It is true that no one has to listen to these programs if they are only going to be frustrated, but maybe he should have declined to tell Kelly he could answer such a question in one minute or less!!! She asked him if he had time to answer one more question. He presented something that he says he did not even discover until he was taking University Psychology courses!!!!!

    From 49:45-57 the transcript has incorrect words and left some out. It sounds as if he is saying that he borrowed his mother's religious imagery. It is not understandable what he means by disassociating? Does he mean he thought he was not really accepting Catholicism in the way that his devout mother was? And what does he mean by disassociating? You can't explain such a complex problem stemming from childhood trauma in three confusing sentences?

    I heard Mr Finley on a Turning to the Mystics Podcast say that if God stopped loving everyone in existence, then we would all simply vanish! I don't know who introduced the thought first, but years ago in the 1980s I remember watching a show by Carl Sagan (was an Atheist), called "Cosmos" and in a particular episode he was of course introducing everything from an Atheistic viewpoint, basing everything on human achievement, and first he spoke of all humans as "We", saying, "we are a single organism" and then he said, "If we all stop thinking all at the very same moment, we will all cease to exist." After he died his wife said that he said that he did not want to believe in God, he wanted to know. Evidently God did not share anything with him!

    Thomas Merton writes of her in his book "Seven Storey Mountain". Some people today have given her the title of "Thomas Merton's Spiritual Mother". He went to a lecture at Columbia University but the scheduled lecturer could not appear, and Catherine was the replacement speaker. He met her after and she encouraged him to do volunteer work in Harlem which he did. When he went to Kentucky he burned some of his writings, thinking he would never write again, but it turned out much differently, as he wrote about 60 books in the next 27yrs. He may not have been so productive if he spent the rest of his life in Harlem. He received a better and more appreciated destiny in the course he took after praying to St Therese of Lisieux.

    I am curious as to what you mean when you speak of a “cramped Christianity”. I’ve heard you use that term. Opposed to a wide open Christianity that “greedily pulls in everything”. I’ve heard similar things are more recent social issues. Along the lines that the Church shouldn’t disallow people with certain proclivities.

    • @carolinafine8050
      @carolinafine8050 Год назад

      I think I figured out what you mean by it. A cramped Christianity is one where some is not considered accepted unless everything about that person is accepted as well. There’s no requirement on the individual to change (unless they have views that are considered patriarchal) but, aside from that: all behaviors accepted
