POTA from WV3V@US-0974 Tule Springs Fossil Beds in S. NV. (8/27/2024)
Parks on the Air, or POTA, is an amateur radio program in which ham radio operators use portable equipment to bring recognition to parks worldwide. I am operating from US-0974, Tule Springs Fossil Beds in S. Nevada. I have operated from this park and made many ham radio contacts, including my 1,000th contact using 20 watts or less. Check out my operating style, ham radio gear, and quick exchanges during this park activation.

Parks on the Air Activation from Wv3v @K-8253 in Central Missouri. (20231124)

Another one of my passions is Amateur Radio and a program called, Parks on the Air, or POTA for short. POTA is where an amateur radio operator sets up a portable ham radio and operates to make at least 10 contacts for an activation. Come along as I operate morse code and, make some contacts using minimal gear, only a few watts of power in Central Missouri.

Dax, for sure. I am always curious about the "other" side as well and figured this was a chance to share that experience. Thaks for watching. -Jason
Hey Jason Don't know if you remember me from Gold basin and Franconia I'm also an amateur radio operator maybe when it cools down maybe meet up in Franconia or Gold basin and do an activation along with Hunting meteorites ? KI7CSN
Dennis, I sure do. It's a lot of fun POTA, that is and also hunting for meteorites. I need to connect with nature more and get out side for that. Thanks for watching.
Great activation. Congrats on 1k. Thanks for sharing.
Gene, thanks. It was a lot of fun in the making.
Hi Jason! Glad to see you up and out! It has been a long time. Thanks for the video! Brought back some good memories!
Jim, long time buddy. Still at it every now and again. Still need to have a cold find, but maybe once I hit retirement age, lol.
Thanks for the education ! Happy Hunting 👍
You're welcome. According to Richard O Norton, there should be one meteorite per square mile on land. That's a pretty good chance of finding one. Happy Hunting.
ruclips.net/video/6vqp7PjBWhs/видео.html hello
Is this North or South of I-40?
All of my finds have been on the North side. The South side has some big ones, still lurking I'm sure, but harder to find than the Northside IMO.
Do you take groups out on hunts?
I have taken and worked with small groups of hunters, but never guarantee finding anything. They are still there but getting harder and harder to find each year.
Saludos amigo le dejo su like👍🏼y lo espero in my channel of adventur and history

Nice find! I have several I want to sell.. 1 tested with paper work
Congrats. They are sometimes hard to sell without a university classification. Thanks for watching.
I've followed you since 2008! I remember chondrites were the thing back then, I think they've been fished out or something! Or the metal detector circuits have changed to concentrate more on irons...Hold on, what I said doesn't make sense, chondrites have less than 10% iron and it would be harder to find them. You would think that newer detectors would be more sensitive. You know better what happened, maybe you can share some wisdom on my question? I am guessing now more PI out there vs the previous VLF machines...but again not sure...thanks.
Hi there, sorry for such a late response. Each metal detector has it pros and cons. VLF machines are good at finding smaller targets, less deep. PI’s are depth seekers. They are also more sensitive to and can have some interference as well. Price point is higher, and usually resale is better. In terms of finding meteorites, gold, coins, it’s the man and woman of the machine. Boots on the ground make the finds, and get to know their device. That’s the key.
Hey thx for your reply, I hear ya, it's the experience of using the different detectors, I still have my VLF GMT and a Fisher PI. I know one thing, don't get them close to one another, one of them screams! The interference is quite noisy and misleading to say a little.
Just found a few on my driveway today. Used a rare earth magnet. Then we did a window test. We are a few miles north of Kingman Arizona. Can not wait to check out Franconia
Nice finds jayray. Back in the field I was just there about 2 weeks too. Check out my video
TAKE .......AHH .......OUT OF YOUR VOCABULARY!!!!!
Tiger Steele Thanks for the comment. Granted it was a LONG time ago....
@@jasonsnyder9394 hey this is Dennis Wells used to go out to goldbasin watching your old video from 14 years ago same was wondering what you been doing I noticed some of the channels you have you watch amateur radio operators I'm a general now
Roger Dodger Dennis. Yeah, I miss all the hooting and hollering there at the basin and miss all those that passed on.
Hey how do you catalog your finds?
Sor Sor Science07 I usually mark them with the GPS, photo them with a reference cube (1cm), then bag and tag them. Thanks for viewing my video.
Nice Video Jason.....Good to see you put together another video.
Thanks.
Thanks guys. Franconia is such a fun place, and you never know what you will walk away with.
Good to see you back!
Thanks for watching.
Great video Jason and nice finds.
Thank you.
Frank, I was using the Yaesu VX-8r at its high power setting of the 5 watts.
What power was you using Jason - 5 watts?
Yes, just the HT at it's normal power. Thanks for viewing.
Good finds. Got gps coords for the spot you were in? Thanks.
+jj doe Good luck if you go. The area is pretty flat and you should have some still there. Definitely check under bushes for sure. Let me know what you find.
still making vids?
+Sor Sor Science07 I haven't lately, but am always for making one. I need to get out more.
Jason Snyder Yeah :) I love meteorites.
+Sor Sor Science07 I haven't made any lately due to some life circumstances and employment changes but love making them and helping people find their first meteorite. Thanks for watching.
+Sor Sor Science07 When I get out and hunt, its mainly just hunting, not any real videos anymore.
Very nice work.
Thank you.
You mist a 1 peace
Thanks for watching. That just means I have to go back, HA!
some can be worth quite a bit but the one's he found totaled together would probably only get him 20-50 bucks.
Hi and thanks for watching. Most of my finds are not really worth that much, due to the TKW of the meteorites. But in my book they are worth millions. Why? Because I found them and was the first to touch a piece of outer space.
