Hi, RDH here. It is absolutely essential that every dental office has CPR BLS training. We deal with people who are at high levels of anxiety, taking medications for all of kinds of issues, or taking medications for their anxiety whether it is a prescription or a street medication. Diabetics, heart patients, people who are from every walk of life, just like any medical doctor's office. I have personally had patients faint or have drug interactions while in my chair and the squad had to be called. Our office had an emergency plan in place, with each person having a part in the chain of survival. Choking is another higher likelihood, due to using materials and instruments that could fall into a person's airway while doing a dental procedure. AED's should be a requirement in every healthcare facility in my opinion. I have recently become an AHA BLS instructor, and I plan on using my certification to teach these offices, and laypersons CPR, as I believe in this so strongly. Thank you for these video's, they have helped me as I start out on this new career.

I took a cpr class through my employer. They hired an instructor through HSI. They gave me a printed card with no validation code at all. When i called then instructor, she told me i had to pay an additional 50 dollars for an ecard with that info. Needless to say i am scheduled with AHA class tomorrow!!

Registration for a class says there is a written exam in addition to a hands on. Is the exam open resource like a regular BLS class?

To minimize disruption during the skills portion, I have my AED turned on, while all the students have theirs turned off. Turning an AED on is not a big deal, but having many AEDs shout commands at different times is. So, all the students will press NEAR the On/Off button, and then listen to my AED. Also makes checking skills better because ALL the students should be doing the same action. Hope this helps!

Medical practices are changing and advancing expeditiously. Do you see the practice of in person classes changing in the future? Possibly just online, or even remote? Robots? What are your thoughts?

If we get certified by AHA does that mean that American Red Cross will also validate the course we took to become instructor and vice versa?

With respect you missed something important, namely when CPR would put you, the rescuer at risk. Examples included where the victim is being electrocuted or the victim is in an unsafe place that will put the rescuer at risk. Second point, in the UK we are told we can use a tourniquet to stop a catastrophic bleed from a limb and to address catastrophic bleeding before starting chest compressions. So the UK a catastrophic bleed is not a reason not to do CPR - at leasst for the level two first aid qualification. Otherwise a very interesting video.

Hey thanks for such a great video! We're looking at getting one b/c our aging parents are having cardio issues. Heck, I was a trained as an Army EMT and never once during all our BLS re-certs did the fact that pads need replacing ever come up, your video just put a lot of critical info out on front street. this is all great information. thank you I wish I had found your videos years ago. I became a certified BLS/PALS instructor in 2022 however I have not been able to teach further classes. I am up for recertification later this year in nov/oct would you suggest I start teaching now or would you suggest going through the recertification process and starting from scratch? Any advice on this matter would be incredibly helpful
