As authors, it's easy to get caught up in the stat about most authors only selling 250 copies, but that doesn't have to be the only option for you.

It’s nice that it’s a win for self publishing as a whole but she likely did it because she already got burned once by allowing others to have control of her work. She learned from it and won’t let anyone else have primary ownership of anything she does anymore.

Apparently, I'm logged into some random email that has some random YT account and I subscribed to you using the wrong account. Here's the deal, I'm going to trauma dump in your comments because I gotta tell somebody. So, I wrote a book called Healing the Shattered: Surviving Narcissistic Abuse. I, too, am a Christian. But, what happened to me by way of the female covert narcissist made the book I wrote seem pretty raw and raunchy. Now... it's been two years since I published and I have been struggling with making revisions because I ordered books myself, thru KDP at the author price, and I did sell some. But, the thing is... I haven't really felt proud of telling my story in the way that I did. I mean, I know some parts of it "contain adult material" but I'm ashamed of that now. And, when I first wrote the book, I did click in Amazon "not suitable for children" (because, it's not). I'm sitting here thinking, what can I do with these leftover books (original first editions) and I'm actually considering contacting Hustler to see if they want to buy them. That's how I found your video. The lesson here is this: you're going to learn from your first book. You're going to learn there's a whole lot to book marketing that you don't know. I thought KDP was going to offer my book to stores and all of that (because that's what the contract said). But, what I didn't know was that it's a pretty big "turn off" for a lot of vendors if the book contains adult or mature content. I couldn't tell my story without it being raw and unapologetically written. Now that all this time has passed, I'm thinking about chopping it up and doing a revised 2nd edition that is more suitable for vendors and also FOR ME. As in, I won't be ashamed of what I've written anymore. I'll cut some fluff out and make it more precise (maybe even leave my own story entirely out of it, but that was the purpose of the book). And make it a generalized book. I really am struggling with it because I didn't know when I wrote it so raw that it was going to be so hard to market a book like mine. I did sell some copies and it's still available on Amazon. I just want to get rid of these leftover books and I really don't know how. I even have a webpage and everything at todddoyle.com but I don't often tell anyone about it. I think it's because I'm a private person and I opened up so much in the book that I feel exposed or ashamed - and I know I shouldn't. It was actually cathartic for me to write what I wrote, because I was destroyed when it happened. But, now that some time has passed, I think revising it is the right plan going forward. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Any advice from anyone would be appreciated. And, just to let you know, your video came up suggested by Google for whatever I typed in. Should I approach Hustler? Should I burn them all? Somebody give me some advice and I will check back for updates. Thanks to anyone who responds in advance.

It's only the last couple of years that I have realised my children's books are really for autistic children, their families, and people who help autistic children.
