Welcome to my channel! I’m a railfan from the NYC area, what you’ll see is all kinds of Railroads, Ranging from Commuter to Freights! The main 2 freights you’ll see on this channel are CSX & Providence & Worcester. Since I live close to the CSX Fremont Secondary, that’s where CSX & P&W brings in the freights, and occasionally the NYAR (New York & Atlantic Railway) would use the line too. And the main Commuter Railroad you’ll see is the Long Island Railroad since I live next to the LIRR. And yes sometimes I do travel to other states so you won’t see the same trains. CSX: 4/28 Full day with the 8854 on the CSX Fremont Secondary with both in/outbound trains!
Filmed on 4/28/24
Caught both trains on the Fremont Secondary. Since Y102 came in with a SD40-2, I immediately had to catch the inbound since the 8854 was leading it. The outbound the 8854 was trailing obviously, but that didn’t stop me from getting the 8854 for a second time. SD40-2s are uncommon on this line. Always a treat when Y102 comes in with a SD40-2.
Y102: Oak Point Yard to Fresh Pond (vice-versa)
EMD: SD40-2 8854 (Ex-Conrail 6492)
GE: CW44AC 477

Filmed on 8/12/24 While on my way back to Jamaica from East Williston, I saw the RS71 stopped by Floral Park and decided to wait for them at Jamaica. About 25 minutes later, they finally showed up. Leading: EMD GP38-2 271 (Ex-LIRR 271) Trailing: EMD GP38-3 270 (Ex-LIRR 270)

Filmed on 7/19/24 The freight action was pretty good for the most part. After the first 2 freights had passed, it was dead for almost 2 hours, but then it started to pick up a bit. Plus after receiving word that the 4822 was on 18N, I couldn’t let that opportunity slip away and I decided to wait for it. I had a bunch of old LIRR catches that I never uploaded. I figured instead of deleting some of these videos, why not upload them into one long video. I still have a couple more miscellaneous catches, but for now this is what I have uploaded. Plus a hawk flying by.

5/23/24 Unfortunately with the overgrown vegetation, I couldn’t really get a picture perfect view of the train, which is why I hold the camera facing forward instead of an angle. Filmed on 6/28/24 I went out to Ridgewood, NJ to catch some classic EMD power leading some trains, but unfortunately I only caught 3 GP40s. The rest were either the Alstom/EMD PL42ACs or those stupid ugly ALP45-DPs built by Bombardier & Alstom. NYA is a serious hauler now with some lengthy freight trains. I recall around 2000 an NYA freight returning west through Jamaica with only 2 freight cars plus 2 diesels.

If it's a DM30 why aren't they running it on the third rail rather than risking that thing failing off the engine
You should go to that spot more often and try to get more videos with CSX over LIRR. Not everyone does that these days.
What you saw was CSX 940, the Crayola unit. It used to be a Heritage Unit but it got repainted almost a year ago so it no longer has that paint.

I thought the gauntlet track was the coolest thing at the time....seeing a track within a track. Makes perfect sense the freights get their own track since they're so much heavier than the commuter trains.
Exactly! Plus the freights can go the track limit without worrying about them hitting the sides of the platform.
Congratulations AJ on catching your first heritage unit!! I caught the Conrail HU (NS8098) here in Reading a few times. Way back in the late 90s, I remember traveling to Roselle Park from Brooklyn via subway and NJ Transit. Back then, there were a ton of engines still bearing Conrail livery since the merger was still fresh. Good vibes!!

I recommend going either Wednesdays or Fridays around 5:30ish PM. But keep in mind they sometimes don’t leave Fresh Pond until like 8ish. They leave anywhere from 6-8:30 PM.

It’s a line to nowhere. when sunnyside was a big freight yard it was an alternative route to send freight trains to eastern LI while avoiding the mainline to Jamaica. But the yard is long gone and the line is a needless left over that had its western connection severed

RS40 around 10AM-12PM, RS50 around 2-3AM, RS80 around 9-10PM, RS41 around 12-2PM, RS51 8-10PM, RS81 2-3AM. Sometimes the RS60/61 but it’s random

It’s safe and best locations are at Queens Blvd with the viaduct, 69th St (in the video), and my spot around 45th Av.

P&W CHFP usually runs three times a week (Sunday’s, Tuesday’s, Thursday’s). FPCH runs on the opposite days (Monday’s, Wednesday’s Friday’s). But they haven’t been running on a Sunday lately. So it’s been just twice a week they show up. CHFP arrives Queens, NY around 2-4 AM, FPCH leaves FPY around 6-8 PM. And Elliot where my buddy csx8851 films at is another good spot to film, u can get great overhead shots.
