Worlds First 64mb CMD RAMLink XL Further Expanded to 96mb
For the first time ever, see a CMD RAMLink upgraded and enhanced with a 64mb RAMcard, then see the capacity climb all the way to 96mb of useable storage. This enhancement blows past the original design constraints of the 16mb hard limit.
In this video I discuss the RAMLink, the improvements achieved so far, and request the engagement of the community as to what they'd like to see as an ultimate goal for this RAMLink XL enhancement project.
Participate in the direction this project takes by participating in a discussion on the topic in the comment section of this video.
This enhancement is not presently available as a product, as it is in current development. Stay tuned for more progress to b...

    I have an older 1541 Ultimate II that I would love to use in the RAM port. As it stands now, I use my RAMLink with my 1764REU for the software that needs that type of device. Any chance on just getting the upgrade DOS chip to have the features indicated in the video? My current backup solution I use is Tachyon RL which takes about 9 minutes to restore a fully populated RAMLink.

    Awesome video! Thank you for sharing your experience with MyRetroComputer's C64x. I also enjoyed the part with the C64x from Commodore USA. Very nice insight 👌😎 I was wondering why you say 90s pc regarding the USA PC? Win 7 was in 2009 and the C64x was in 2011, wasn't it? The color effects on the new C64x is very cool. Again, it's really nice to see what the new machine looks like before I buy it. 🎉

    I love it. Imagine a future where many can have the full CMD product line. RAMLink XL 256 w/backup feature, SuperCPU, and the rest of the CMD drives. Yes 256mb and even the 64mb seems overkill like driving a high-end sports car, but the community is still growing in software. What will someone dream up with that capability? “Are you keeping up with the Commodore?”

  • @CiociariaStorica
    @CiociariaStorica 8 дней назад

    Wonderful project. For me, 64 MB is enough. Of course, 256 MB would be fantastic thinking about a use as a REU; To perhaps save various games or programs that use and will use the REU more and more. For Nuvie files I don't know if there are problems with RAMLink. We also consider that having a CMD HD with parallel cable we will already have very fast access to the files and we will be able to quickly fill the RAMLink. There is a world of possibilities. We just think about accessing the HD CMD's 4 MHz processor through the parallel cable. As usual, the problem will be to create a standard because the thousands of possible configurations tend to block serious software developments. The nice thing is that this is real hardware. I'll stop here. Congratulations again. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😃

    Instead of using rigidly mounted edge connectors, I would suggest using ribbon cables to extend the connector to have it on a nearby flat surface, instead of hanging out in space, flapping in the breeze, as it were. That could further reduce the visual obstruction from the cartridge expander. Just a thought.

    • @mrbill2297
      @mrbill2297 7 дней назад

      Ribbon cables don't work well with high speed parallel devices. The longer they are the more the signals degrade. Case in point the SX64 expansion port, its connectoed to the mobo with a ribbon cable, hardly ever works with rm expansions wthout errors.

    1. Can it have non-volatile ram? 2. With a SuperCPU, U2+ and U2+L don't work in Ramlink V2 as REU. That wouldn't be a deal-breaker, but can it be fixed? 3. Having 512MB in the thing doesn't mean we have to use it all, and if you go to 512, what about skipping the memory modules and just putting ram on the PCB?

    I was working in the industry for 13 years and I found very disappointing that the Chinese work culture (work ethic, exploitation, environmental issues, etc...) slowly seeps in to Europe. That is why I would choose a local company (there are many) instead of ordering from China. If you make business with them then don't be surprised when one day you will earn like them. Support the local businesses if you can. It's better for your country's economy and for the environment (less transport) too.

    When you ship the box you provide a very cool plastic guide so that folks can convert HD disks into ED disks. I've had a few online friends confirm that it usually works. (75% chance of success or thereabouts.) However, I've had some engineer friends who had not tried the conversion question the longterm data integrity. They point to the different magnetization field strength and perpendicular recording instead of horizontal. In your anecdotal experience, have you had any issues with your converted disks over time?

    • @8BitResurgence
      @8BitResurgence 4 месяца назад

      I can believe that there is a difference between ED and HD disks in terms of the ability to retain data, but I have been doing this for years, and thus far, have not encountered data loss. Am I lucky? Perhaps. So far so good though. BTW, I read your blog post comment about case pricing. IF you're quoted a higher price, then contact PCBWay and tell them to adjust the price. If they won't, contact me, and I will reach out to them on your behalf. Tried to sign up to reply on your blog, but never got a confirmation e-mail.. Hence my comment to you here.

    Good stuff. I don't own a microscope, but it's fun to watch! Several years ago, I bought a bunch of MOS 6526 ICs on eBay and they were all fake. I opened a dispute and at first, the seller was trying to insist that I send them back to China at my expense. Then they offered a PARTIAL refund, which was useless. I was able to prove my case because the auction photo was a legit chip with a legit date code, but the ones they sent had a nonsensical number on them. They gave me a refund, but went right on selling the fake chips. So I left negative feedback, warning others about it. The seller threw a fit because they resolved it with me, and I said that I would remove my feedback if they withdrew the fake chips from eBay. They didn't, so I didn't. But I definitely shared the seller name in the C= Community!
