I admit I hadn't paid attention to Szell in my younger days, when I was forming my tastes in music. I thought he was a martinet, not somebody who would encourage his musicians to let loose. How wrong I was, as I'm discovering now. He lets the music carry us along, with no fussy micromanaging. Wonderful experience.
Wish it had English Subtitles 😢
This recording is absolutely amazing! The Cleveland Orchestra is unmatched in this repertoire. We lost George Szell long ago, but his quest for perfection is well-documented for all time.
Must be the best and increadable performance of this symphony.
What a fantastic performance AND recording. Thank you.
Szell, I'm Sold
This one is the winner. Precision, clarity, rhymic energy, sonic staging . . . all conspire to make this the best all-around recording of this piece for all time. No one needs to ever record it again.
First recording of the 7th that I ever heard. It blew me away. Not the same album cover, though.
I have no idea what you guys are talking about. This is classic, cold Szell, polished and skating over the surface. This works great in Haydn and Mozart. It's not enough for Beethoven. If you prefer a "classical" proportioned Beethoven , with emotions held in check, then Szell is certainly one of the better ones. It certainly has lots of clarity. If you want Romantic, expressive, forward looking Beethoven, Szell is not enough. Szell's 7th was also one of my first versions and I quickly said, no, this music demands more.
❤❤❤❤
Subtitles please!
Well, we had a piano. It was a family heirloom from before the war. A 'Musica' brand piano. Not like this one... If it had been like this... My goodness... It's completely natural that if someone has above-average hearing, they eventually crawl up and start tinkering on the piano. In the worst case, they play what they heard on the radio; in the best case, from their own invention. Anything that signifies the freedom of the mind. I think I had both because I fooled around a lot; these were my own inventions. But I also tried to imitate what I heard on the radio. And now, looking back, it's been 60 years... It seems like the first melody I managed to completely replicate was the Hungarian anthem. Maybe just in a single voice, maybe in more. I don't remember exactly. I just remember that first my parents, then the neighbors noticed this, and then they invited the composer János Viski, who examined me thoroughly, tested my hearing, and other abilities, and questioned my parents about the family background. When he learned that my ancestors were intellectuals on both sides for many generations, he visibly relaxed. I remember that when I was hospitalized with rheumatic fever at eight and a half years old, he came to visit me. I couldn't grasp the significance of it. He died shortly afterward, but by then, others had taken notice of me too. I even met Zoltán Kodály, who perhaps examined my abilities even more thoroughly than János Viski. I remember the first task was probably the E minor Bach 3-part invention, where I had to play the two outer parts and sing the middle part (naturally using solfège).
Mark Lifschey, Principal Oboe!
This is absolute gold! What a performance!!!!
La coda final es la guida de una interpretación excepcional.
Where did you find this.....!
This is considered the Reference Recording by many critics. It is the performance they judge all others by. ruclips.net/video/mz8PEi9Twew/видео.html
And rightly so!
Fine and much appreciated posting! Powerful third, masterful Szell and CSO. The CD cover blurb is no exaggeration.
Performance and sound: astounding. Thank you for posting.

isn't this "Rákóczi March"?
Hi, induló means march. 😊
Sehr schön! Gefällt mir.
Vielen dank!:)
Vielen Dank - großartig gespielt! Tolles Zusammenspiel, und, nebenbei, auch ein sehr schöner Geigenton. Ich bin begeistert.
Danke schön, liebe Maria!
Thank you so much. Could I ask when it was recorded?

Lively and precise! I believe van Gough bears out Szell's style very appropriately!
The fourth Beethoven symphony performed by Bruno Walter (it was on PHILIPS) was one of the first LP I ever bought (more than 60 years ago) I still love Bruno Walter's great performance. Thank you very much for this great upload and the memories !
Having got a copy of this 1941 Recording Reissued under licence by His Master's Voice in the Golden Treasury of Immortal Performances Record Number CSLP-505 in 1956:I Can truly say that transfer is far Better than the later 1970's Reissue and this transfer is almost as good as mine 😂😅😅😅
Wow! Thanks, i like this concerto
On consideration, this is far beyond my skills. Quite an amazing piece of music, by someone who knows the violin intimately.
Very nice and rare recording
thank you so much for this incredible upload !!!! one of my favourite piano concertos with the composer as soloist. I had NO idea it existed...if I may ask: where did you find this????
Thanks.
Interesting choice of painting
Perhaps Van Gogh's Starry Night was an indirect reference to the Kermis of the finale?
@@ilirllukaci5345 Not the original album cover (maybe a re-release?). The original featured a portrait of Beethoven on the cover.
Su brillante técnica lo hace ser por siempre un Violinista Excepcional .
Maravillosa ejecución del Legendario Violinista David Oistrakh ; interoreta de manera Magistral la Obra Maestra del Genial Compositor .

This looks so interesting, but without subtitles in English i can only guess what's being said ...
Szell top! In the Eroica my favorite with Karajan, and very very few other
Wonderful transfer, thank you! The balance between the basses and the trebles is perfect. And the interpretation is simply speechless: who can play so nowadays? I'm afaraid no one...
