Looked like a fun session.
The gear whine is too good
@@nahuelmat sometimes I watch my videos at night and that gear one puts me to sleep, it's so good, LOL
Good chase. Traffic helped a bit. Enjoyed the run
I will be at WGI for the first time next weekend. I watch your video every am, studying your line, braking and gearing. What do you use to get all the graphics? Thanks...
@@toddplevinsky4704 it’s a little complicated. I have two data systems in Drax. I use an AiM MXP to collect CAN data along with additional sensors, it has a dashboard so that’s my primary data and in cockpit device. That MXP sends the information through its output to a vBOX. That device also logs, however it also has two cameras and overlays the logged information onto video. You can use either one of these separately however together they give me redundancy. If one fails I still have data. It’s this vBOX that answers your question of the graphical overly.
@@johndefini3732 I greatly appreciate the response. I think for now, I am just going to try and replicate what you did at WG - to my capabilities. First season on track for me so, while the graphics are amazing, I will put that aside for season. I do appreciate the methodical inputs. I struggle with a smooth 5th to 4th to 3rd. My heel/toe is not fast enough and my brake window closes real fast. Thanks for the great videos.
Damn, that thing sounds GREAT!
@PeterKrauseProCoach thank you Peter. It's the one unique thing about Drax, I have even the other E46M3 guys asking me what in the world did I do to make it sound like that!!
Wow, amazing car, awesome driving! What's your suspension setup?
Nothing super special....MCS 2 way non remote, ground control front anti-roll bar, no rear bar installed, lots of negative camber. Thanks for the props!
@@johndefini3732 Nice.... that thing looks so dialed in. You've got so much pace with it (1:08's!) and it appears relatively "effortless" at the same time. Just very smooth overall. 👍
@jfritz7000 thanks man, the car is setup really well. 1:08 and I missed apex on T7 a few times! My AiM said my theoretical best was 1:07.3. If I throw brand new tires on rather than my scrubs I'm thinking 1:06s.
@@johndefini3732 That's just nuts -- keep showing those newer P cars who's boss in your 20 yr old E46! Hah. What orgs do you typically run with at NJMP? Any chance you'll be there May 24/25 with PCA?
@jfritz7000 I run primarily with NNJR PCA, Chin, HOD, and TrackXperienz. I unfortunately will not be at t-bolt with NNJR end of May cause I'll be at ViR with chin. I ran the new repave at T-bolt, I got a video on my channel :)
Took me 2 attempts, but got it done. I was underneath on my back with my eyes closed aligning the shaft with one hand while aligning the fork on the other side. Don’t use Gorilla tape lol!!!. You video was super helpful!
Nice driving John! 👊
Outstanding
The clutch started to slip in my 996 turbo today. Not looking forward to this.
what gearbox setup is this? H pattern dog box?
This is a Gearmotiv dogbox with a dogleg pattern 5spd
Nice! 👍 Well done, sir. Great vid.
There too. 132.93 ZL1 1LE Great weekend track was fast. Awesome dtiving
Hey John, what type of trans/diff do you have in the car? It looks like it is setup perfect for the power and track use.
I have a Gearmotiv Dogbox and a stock M3 LSD with a 4.10 ring & pinion
You RUclips videographers you need to get a second person to hold your phone or the GoPro while you’re trying to do your demonstration it’s very hard to show how to do something when you’re trying to hold a camera and do the work you’re trying to do or if you can’t get a person put your camera on a tripod it would make it a match easier job for you to show mechanical work if you’re not trying to hold the camera and do it at the same time
What else was done here? Sounds amazing.
Just a cobb tune and the exhaust
What headers?
Active Autowerks
Nice job John!
Nice lap John!
I wonder if the driver knew they were 20 mph or so slow in T2 and T3?
Time for the GTR to get bigger turbos
Epic video. Even still! Thank you
John, what transmission is that? Stock e46? diff? Thank you! Doing some research and could use the info
At the time of this video it was 5spd zf trans mission with a oem rear differential (oem lsd too). Remember the 5 and 6 spds have the same gear ratios as 6spd just missing the 6th gear. We swap the trans for weight savings not gear ratios. Now the car has a 4.10 rear , cams, intake and tune. I'll be at RAtl this coming weekend. We'll see how the times differ
@@johndefini3732 Than you! Then it is/was very close to my e36, s54 with a 3.64 diff. I am working on installation of a DCT and there are a few ratios to choose from. Be safe, drive it like you stole it!
Damn that's flying. What mods?
Thanks man... appreciate the kind words. I'm running TT3 spec so 2950lbs with me, cams, tune, exhaust, MSC 2way, Michelin scrubs
Bro follow that 15,000 oil change intervals
Fml ty for info
What exhaust setup do u have ?
Bimmerworld race with custom Soul Performance fabricated rear section, basically a straight pipe with the tiniest resonator imaginable. Suppersprint headers
Just rewatched this. Man I look like I'm standing still!
It's about the same time difference as your GT3 and me... 6 seconds
@@johndefini3732It'll be fun next season with the Cayman. I'll try to keep up!
@@ericliu8161 such a sand bagger, lol
Very informative video! Is the 996 Turbo be an easier Clutch assembly to work on? what city/region is your shop located? thanks.
996 is about the same effort when all is compared. I'm in Northeastern NJ
@@johndefini3732 Ok Thanks! By the way, Any trusted or acquainted Souther California Porsche Mechanic to recommended please?
Great driving John
Great video doing the clutch on my 997 this week. Thankfully I have a lift and hydraulic tranny jack.
Great video, shaking was not noticeable. I'm doing this job but I'm dropping the engine and transmission together.
Love it! - Mike
Awesome driving John! At least a half second there from the traffic!
woot some video of me before scott takes off...
That guy was dangerous. And I don't get how he was in white.
have you programmed your mk60 with the motorsport software
No but sounds interesting... please explain :)
@@johndefini3732 not sure if you did it was going to ask how. but iv been reading up it needs to be bench flashed and only certain model abs can be done. want to fit abs to our e36
@@A-TeamRacingZA I'll ask some folks that are more knowledge on the mk60
Igot this from a buddy of mine......."People can be talking about one of two things. Any E46 M3 MK60 unit can be recalibrated to match the CSL parameters. There are also a subset of MK60 units that can be used for Race ABS applications which requires a bench flash of a map specifically set to your chassis. Any ZCP/CSL unit can accept the Race ABS programming and any E46 M3 MK60 who's computer number ends in 813.3 can also. Please see below how to tell the difference and note that BMW does not consider the 818.3 and 813.3 units to be different part numbers. So you'll need to see the exact unit you're buying to be sure."
@@johndefini3732 awesome Wil check tomorrow the part no on this I have. I Will need to find out who can flash we I live. Thanks for the info.
About 14 turns to late. Guy was so far off line
Fun times!
What's the programming for the channel in the aim?
Channel settings....function: voltage, generic 0-5v, sampling frequency 2hz, no decimal I have an icon on my MXP that displays when voltage for this sensor is greater than 3v
@@johndefini3732 Awesome, thanks. I'm experimenting with a digital status - just so it gets logged as 0 or 1 in the data. I'll let you know if it works or not!
@@johndefini3732 I ended up using a 1k resistor between 5vref and signal and set the channel to digital status with on = high
@@chris-graham that's probably a cleaner way to do it. Boolean 0 or 1 rather than "greater than value". Glad it worked out though!
Please explain more about the pigtail. I have a motec m150 that I want the abs light to work with. I have had it to an led light before but I don’t remember how it was wired.
Nice driving John!
Was this a late day session in red?
Yes, it was my last session when I was running with a destroyed left front wheel bearing (might have been open track actually). I came in early as it was starting to sound really bad, plus I was having oil temp issues. Decided to call it quits.
@@johndefini3732 I was in the Alfa 4C… your time is a mere 8 seconds faster than mine … nice driving brother - especially with that disaster waiting to happen at the hub.
@@alevy3817 what.... active camber is not a good thing ;)

I think you can get a 28 from just a stronger commitment to throttle on exit
Exit of which corner.... all, lol
