Blue Knob Extrovert to Lower High Hopes
Просмотров 3,4 тыс.5 лет назад
January 30, 2016. Extrovert, supposedly one of the steepest runs around. Need to try Wildcat. Icy fast down High Hopes. GoPro chest mounted, sorry for the knee shots. PA skiing at its finest. www.atomic.com/en-us
PA skiing is so crappy. I know, it's what we got, so no use complaining about it. But it is just so awful. Icy, short runs with long flat sections before and usually after. Just like at every other area in the Commonwealth.
Nice job. Stay safe, buddy. God bless you.
Are you gonna do anymore blue knob videos?
I go where there's snow bromeo. Not looking good for this year.
Hey Devin could you hit upper extrovert into lower Route 66? I’ve never went down it and want to see how it looks
I'll do what I can
Is mambo alley still there?
I think so.
yes! check out their instagram for daily updates
Yes I was just on it 2 hours ago
OP
I last rode park city, Utah, how steep are these trails compared to those. I did double blacks there.
Extrovert is serious business by any standard, and ice in the east takes bump skiing to a level never seen at any UT resort. Yes, there are steeper trails, (It's not in the league of Al's run at Taos for example) but Extrovert is nothing to skoff at.
sohlbergk Thanks for the tips dude, I am hoping to come to blue knob some time soon if it snows more. Happily I have no problem with ice after skiing Aspen Colorado, lol.
A week had past, maintaining below freezing temps since a considerate natural snow, all the while making snow. This run, being ungroomed, is full of bumps that accumulate by skiing off projected snow. Combine with the natural slope and you have ledges that you will get air off with speed, and there's a solid 10 foot cliff to the right. I was lucky to get a lot of powder on top of the skied off bits. In park city there's generally a good pillow of powder to fall on no matter the actual slope.
I think the only ski run in Pennsylvania that’s steeper than this is White Lightning at Montage
@@joelp5093 I've wondered about that some over the years. Has anyone used an inclinometer to see which is steeper? One thing is certain, the length of the steep section is much greater on Extrovert so even if White lightning has a steeper maximum pitch, Extrovert feels like a substantially more challenging run. So I typed the above, but then I got curious so I checked the contour maps. The steep part of White lightning drops 200 feet over a run of 350 feet for 57.1% = 29.7 degrees. The steep part of Extrovert drops 400 feet over a run of 675 feet for 59.3% = 30.6 degrees. Within the accuracy that I can extract from the topo map, that's essentially the same pitch, but the steep part of Extrovert is twice as long. For comparison, there is a stretch of Al's run at Taos, NM that drops 1400 feet over a run of 2703 feet for 52%= 27.5 degrees, and there is a 600 foot stretch at 0.58 = 30 degrees. (I was surprised that it isn't steeper. I recall it being quite intimidating, but I was much younger and less experienced when I skied Al's than when I skied the PA resorts, Al's is 4x longer and the elevation takes your breath away if you are from the east...) Now there is a stretch of the Stauffenberg chute at Taos that drops 400 feet over a distance of 540 feet for 75% = 36.5 degrees. I recall that being quite insane.
deer run is epic nice video
Me and my middle school chums used to sneak onto this hill after dark during ski club to impress the girls
Good skiing on some serious steeps. It’s not only the pitch, but the angle of the slope that makes it difficult. Extravert has only been open a couple of days this season. I’d like to revisit it, if only for one run. Last time I skied it was in the 60’s believe it or not. I was packing slopes for a free lift ticket as a 14 year old kid. That’s where I learned to sideslip, LOL!
