Friendly reminder not to feed ducks, geese, and swans bread. Bread doesn’t have the proper nutrients they need, it instead tricks them into being full. Some nice snack options are peas, oats, cracked corn, lettuce and cabbage. Feeding them bread once isn’t likely to cause an issue, the bigger issue is that they don’t forage when they think they are full. For them, eating bread is like skipping a meal.

I've never liked swans! They are too aggressive and territorial! I got bitten several times by swans when I was a child, when I was feeding ducks with bread and when I was fishing. I don't know why people like swans, they are also very dangerous! They can really hurt a grown man!

How did you get close to them geese without an attack

Love geese. Got to feed a few locally, on a couple of ponds. Pure pleasure, when they see you coming . The honking starts as they run and fly to you for their treats. Little goslings munching at your feet. Dad and mum taking turns as watch dog, so they can eat. In life in the wild they dont eat bread. Think its oats,barley, wheat, Corn and lettuce( not iceberg). 🇨🇦 Canada geese can be aggressive though. Luckily fingers crossed. I haven't been bitten yet. Funniest thing ever. Took half an hour to teach them where the gate of the pond was. Arms out stretched herding the babies of the road was mad. Exspected dad to attack, but he never did. After that no probs. The babies would jus get through the fence. But mum couldn't and kept trying to go through with them . The honking and banging the fence was nuts. They needed to know as a week later the babies couldn't get through the fence or fly. So it was gate heven. And Dad . We bacame friends. He let me feed him and the goslings by hand. But not mum. I would feed the babies and he would shake his head no. I would shake my head say "no. Don't feed the babies" he would again shake his head. So asked shall i feed you. And point to him. He would nod. So i fed him. Then fed the babies more. Then went to feed mum. Again shake his head. Again ask no dont feed mum and point he'd shake his head. Ask feed you. He'd nod yes. Feed him then mum. He was so funny. But loved every privileged moment.
