I think what's happening is you aren't using the filters so the coffee is clogging the holes preventing the water from draining

Turn down the heat

I have the same percolator and it works great. When it starts percolating turn down the heat to medium and it won't boil over. Let it percolate an extra 5 or 10 minutes. The longer the perk, the stronger the coffee.👍👍

My family used coffee percolator of this style over a campfire. We always poked a hole in a home filter and put it in the percolator. Also, if you want the 8 cups, you will have to buy a twelve cup percolator because the manufacturers all fib on how much you can put in them.

Once the water starts percolating, turn the flame down low. It'll still percolate. The boilover is because the flame is too high for too long. After your percolating time, turn the flame off and let the coffee sit/rest for two minutes which allows the coffee in the basket to empty/drain into the pot

Put coffee into basket then into coffee maker. Use course ground coffee not regular grind. Boil on high till it's starts percolating. Reduce heat to medium. Brew bout 8 minutes. Then turn off let sit a few moments. Remove grounds and enjoy

Allow a minute or so for the coffee in the basket to drain down before pouring coffee after turning flame off

Percolator coffee makers are horrible... good for heating water though... get a french press and use the percolator to heat the water.

I have that same peculator and despise the damned thing because the holes in the coffee basket allow a lot of "mud" into the coffee. The secret to not have it boil over and a better cup of coffee is to lower the heat to about low medium once it gets going so that it peculates once a second or so and the water is just shy of boiling. It is widely accepted that the ideal temperature for making coffee to avoid burnt and bitter flavors is between 195°F (92°C) and 205°F (96°C). This range allows for proper extraction of flavors and oils from the coffee beans without overheating or burning them. Water boils around 212°F (100°C).

I agree with others, as soon as it starts to boil, turn it down to about a medium low for a slow perc maybe one perc per second or so. also, your grounds sounded very coarse. It should be slightly more coarse than automatic drip and use more than you would with the automatic drip. Because this is cooked coffee, it tends to mellow the flavor and cook out the bitterness (unless you burn in). Finally, cook for a full 10min after it starts to boil but no more. Oh as for the boil over, yes, turn it down, but also the water should never be higher than the start of the pour spout. This keeps the water in the pot instead in the uncovered spout. Practice makes perfect... Good luck and enjoy. 😄

I use a Farberware percolator and my first pot boiled over as well. Try turning the heat down to a slow boil. It worked for me. If you want stronger coffee just perc it longer. Good luck.

I commented in the tent camp group about the Colette perc. The best coffee will take patience. You need to slow boil it so the grounds have time to get the water to recycle through it. The more the water recycles through the grounds the stronger it will get. I suggest turning your flame down once you get a boil so you have a nice slow boil. We call that a perc boil.

once it comes to boil you need to turn the heat down just a bit to slow the boil and stop the boil over.....also just use regular grind and a small coffee filter in the basket....plus you can perk it longer than 10 minutes for a richer coffee

Thanks for doing this! My 3 year old shelterlogic is so worn out. I wanted to replace the cover, but our stores (Canada) never received the size i needed, so I bought a tarp. Shelterlogic actually sells two better grades? They have a 14.5oz and a 21.5 oz cover..5 year and 10 year warranty. Tarping today! Thanks again!

I just use and reuse gallon water jugs I bought at Walmart. Sturdy & they even have a handy handle.

I purchased 2 of them for the house, just incase of emergency events occurred.

I have used these over the years . They are decent quality tanks. The one down side is the plastic is not uv stable , keep out of sun.

I thought it was a good price, and worked fine with no issues.
