Exactly, Sir! As you eminently put, this is the most beautiful devotional song to ever happen in any language, I can well affirm, being a music buff myself! And the entire credit goes to Yesudas, the singer with the most beautiful voice on earth, which is so unique that nobody can imitate it. And, the way he has sung it is beyond description! Really speaking, this is not that challenging a song for a seasoned singer to accomplish, but all those who attempted it, you name them, have fallen by the way side! There seems to be some special connect between Yesudas and Lord Ayyappa, whose staunch devotee he has been for well over forty five years now! An interesting thing about this very special song is that when it was recorded back in 1975, for the famous Malayalam movie, "Swami Ayyappan", while all other songs were set apart for Yesudas, which all turned out to be all time hits, the ace music director, G. Devarajan Master, had drafted another singer, with a more mature, baritone voice for this hymn, which, in the movie, was to be sung by an elderly man . (Yesudas was in his prime youth then). But, as it turned out, the proposed singer suddenly took ill and as the studio was booked and Yesudas was at hand to sing the remaining songs, the lot fell on him! There was little time left for him to train on the song! Devarajan Master himself, whose most favourite singer Yesudas ever was, was a bit skeptical! The rest is history! This went on to become the greatest devotional song to ever happen in any language and brought this high acclaim to Yesudas! In fact, this song is instrumental in taking the name of Lord Ayyappa across to other states, leading to millions from there flock to Sabarimala! That way, Hinduism owes a lot to Yesudas, himself a Christian, now practicing Hinduism, though! And, later on, this nectarine song came to be used as a lullaby at Sabarimala, to put the Lord to sleep as the Temple is closed at night. Since the last few years, upon hearing it live from Sabarimala, in what was an electrifying experience, I invariably begin my day hearing this one!
