Good video, although the train surfer shouldn't have luggage with them, because then it will only be more difficult for them to stand outside the door and hold on tight. One of our trains in Sweden does not have such handles next to the door, however. One of the Fjärrtågen works better for surfing at the back of the train and also between the carriages. On the Pendeltågen, there are huge leashes that you can stand on. Works better at the back, although you have to be careful not to be caught by guards who are constantly hanging on the platforms to catch someone who jumps off. Happened to me before when I was going to surf the Pendeltåget and I was discovered by the train host. When I saw her, I jumped off and she just started honking at me right away.

Seen this happen all the time when I used to work for the railroad; people would get off the train in D.C. to get something eat while the train was changing locomotives and taking off extra passengers cars. People would be late running down the platform with hands full of food.......sometimes beer too, screaming for the train to stop. Lol, the train would never stop, and they never dropped the beer either! But it always worked out, we would just put them on the next train going south, 24 hours later, which gave them plenty of time to eat their food and drink their beer. Once, a woman screamed at me for not stopping the train when it started pulling out; I was the electrician in charge of the train and it had got gotten the signal (2 lights) to leave. The woman had had plenty of time to get on the train (she had been told that the train was about to depart, but left the platform to use her cellphone inside the station), so she got one of the police (a new hire), and he yells, "Why didn't you stop the train for her?". I looked at him calmly and said, "Gimme your gun, I'll shoot the tires out on the train and stop it, ok?" My former co-workers heard about that; I was a legend after word of my one-line zinger got around in the station. I don't care much for idiots.

He can catch the next train but most long distance Amtrak routes have only one train a day in each direction. In that case you’re screwed and might have to call a taxi or Uber and get to a nearby hotel and catch the train the next day.

I have seen several people attempt this on the Chicago Metra service. Train usually stops and the perp gets booted off. But one year I saw a guy jump into the end of the train where there is a connector if the railcar is connected to another. He stood in that connector (the door was locked obviously) until the next stop (I assume). He then jumped off and walked to an open door. If he had been caught (I don't think he was) he would have been banned from Metra for life. I am not sure how the conductor would have not seen him during the ticket run however unless he sat down for the blustery ride to Oak Park.

2:30 - I LOVE that horn and it actually sounds a lot like the Metra cab horns - the commuter rail system in Chicago which is 6 times busier than Caltrain the trains look very much alike. The cars/locomotives on Metra trains were built by the same manufacturers (EMD and Nippon-Sharyo) and operate similarly
