I’ve had people buy off my dads veg and plant stall at home and resell for much more because dad had them under priced

I grew Campanula and Orlaya for the first time this year with plugs purchased from Farmer Bailey. It was part of our first ever inaugural crop in our brand new unheated tunnels. First of all I am zone 7 in the Western NC mountains of NC. I will never grow orlaya in the field again - it was my most amazing crop ever. Campanula was another winner. These two crops helped fill out our mixed bouquets during the so called "Spike season" where it's hard to find filler so you don't have to add 20 snap stems to make a bouquet.

Zone rant needed more often than you'd think.

This is my first yr flower farming. I love the markets! The only thing I find aggravating is the putting up and tearing down. Especially being by myself. I've definitely made mistakes this year. Grew to many fillers and flowers with a not so great vase life. It's disappointing I spent 1,000's dollars and don't like half of what I'm growing. That being said I'm definitely going to concentrate on focals next yr. Pricing is hard for me, I really need to nail it down. My biggest concern is the heat & humidity. I'm zone 9a and I'm not sure how great the bouquets are going to hold up at markets. The good news is there aren't many flower farmers in my area & the ones that are here are only growing for wholesale. Fingers crossed next yr will be better and I'll have more of the kinks worked out.

I’m blown away by your candor and generosity. I’m cleaning but I’m home alone and like to listen to things. This came up and I thought “oh I’m not there yet, not for me,” and then I thought I bet I will learn something. So glad I did listen. I’m only in baby stage trying to figure out what will grow here etc. I think people can miss it’s a social thing. A psychological thing. Being nice to people. Caring. Do farmer's markets allow multiple farms at one booth? I just had a thought during this video that farmers could do what moms do for carpool and switch off every other week and sell for both farms at the same booth 🤔

I got here to this video from the Farmer Bailey email. What a fantastic resource! Thank you for sharing. So neat to hear about the breeding efforts in Japan and all the different varieties. This is the first season I'm growing lisianthus, and I started some from seed (got good, consistent germination but they have stayed quite small) and bought some plugs (they are ready to transplant this weekend). I'm going to try planting some in my high tunnel and some in the field. I'll also try removing some of the first buds and see how that goes. Basically, I'm treating this as a learning season, trying different things, taking notes, and hoping that I'll have some Group 3 still flowering in time for my early fall backyard wedding.

I started some scabiosa in seed trays and they are like a apricot variety but seem To be struggling in seed trays I think I’m ready to transplant outside and just see how they do. It’s just going to be survival of the fittest for these guys

I grow Lisanthus from seed every year VERY successfully. Lisianthus is a GREAT teacher! It will not tolerate haphazard care for very long. If you can grow Lisianthus, you can grow almost anything your climate will grow. MASTER lisanthus and you have GOT IT!

I have another question? I need your help in determining where to plant my lizzys on my new land. As you probably know this area often experiences summer heat over triple digits. My other cut flowers handled the heat fairly well last year with irrigation. But I didn’t attempt lisianthus last year. I do have a shaded area that is on my flood plane. Or if I choose a sunny location then I thought I could give them a low tunnel with a shade cloth.

Great video. I’ve ordered lisianthus and other plugs from you for three years now with this seasons showing up this March in North Carolina. It’s a great service. I still try to grow from seed but it almost always goes horribly.

Small market grower..always Voyage/Roseann brown. I don't get really tall stems out in my small field. But, they do fine for my bouquets in re-cycled glass containers or jars. Thx. for great info.!!
