MERIT: Electronic Manufacturing Training&Education

MERIT is a training institute at Lorain County Community College and stands for:
(M)anufacturing (E)lectronics & (R)ework (I)nstitute for (T)raining
This training institute was made to provide skills training and education in areas of electronic manufacturing that were developed as part of the community college's microelectronic manufacturing and mechatronics degrees.
Education and training provided include:
•\tHand soldering of SMT and Thru-hole components
•\tLead solder vs. RoHS and Pb-free solder
•\tHot air rework
•\tDie attach, thermosonic wire bonding, pull & shear testing
•\tPCB design - schematics, BOM, layout, and GBR
•\tStencil printing and solder paste inspection (SPI) - operation and programming
•\tSMT pick & place - feeder loading, nozzles - operation and programming
•\tReflow ovens
•\tTesting & troubleshooting
•\tBGA Rework & x-ray inspection
•\tMuch more in development - HAST reliability, conformal coating, wave soldering, selective soldering

Using the Panasonic NPM-W2, each component must be programmed to be picked up and placed. Notably, there are three important items to program in using the DGS software in addition to the name of the component - find out what those are in the video as it's the same as what we teach in MERIT and at Lorain County Community College's MEMS & Microelectronics Manufacturing Degree www.lorainccc.edu/MEMS
