They have an air of maturity and pure realistic as much as xianxia and wuxia stories can get. The progress was real, and genuine ,and have more chemistry. Their relationship was not forced, and the story was much more cohesive and flows perfectly timed that the romance so integrated to the story that it became something normal, like real relationship. It was not forced down to your throat, The story itself was more focused on the martial arts elements, and that is the main attraction I described above. In Wangxian ,we know that they have martial arts ,politics ,slice of life, and many more. But it focused in different things, and yet focused on the romance as well that sometimes in books, are placed in random moments. It makes the story has some weird plothole that makes more detail prone readers itchy. And no matter how oblivious Shen Qiao at first ,we all know that he knows. In Wangxian, Wwx so oblivious that it took his death and fumblings and literally Lqc to throw it on his face. He might have feelings far reach when he was alive in his past, but he did not know and did not even think the possibilities. They are kids ,forced to mature with hardship and values too much that they cannot balance it. Shen Qiao and Yan Wushi did not have that problem. They aged well ,and no matter how sheltered a-Qiao is, he is more accepting and his maturity shows so well. Yan Wushi might come really kind of ... well .... annoying in the book ,but that put the realistic values in this story.If all BL stories are about love at first sight, so where to put love that progress naturally? This is just my opinion btw. I love both of them ,but they come from totally different stories with different intentions and focuses. For personal reasons, I love Wangxian as it is the first Chinese BL CP that shows me the wonder of Chinese BL industry, the one I am born and grow with. But YanShen is the true love and the one I matured with. I grow along them ,and live with them. It is like a different feeling with parents and siblings (wangxian) and meeting a great bosom friend in an unexpected journey in discovering life (yanshen).
