Awesome thanks Brian great film ❤
Hi Brian it's Rizwan hoe are you doing
Also the one that joins the Ise from Clipston at Arthingworth is called 'Sidom's Ford'.
Hi, has anyone got a grid reference for the River Ise at Naseby as I'm having a job to find it.
Yes. I used the OS Landranger 141 SP square. The Spring is 699 782. The second source by the field side is 697 788 . The junction at Arthingworth is 751 816. The access to this was not easy and I had to cross over the brook but there may be another way. I did not explore the sources further north nearer the battlefield. Best wishes.
A beautiful video of the river and surrounding fields, lovely childhood memories, illustrating the freedoms we had as children in the 1950s, many of which will never be experienced by today's 'modern' youngsters. Such a shame.
Is this site where Ryeburn Way and Claydon Close have been built? If so how come it was demolished after only 30 years. Doesn't seem very long for a new build - there are many buildings older than that still in use
Brilliant camerawork and hisory. Thankyou.
The Nene, The Welland and the Stratford Avon all have their sources on Naseby Field along side the lovely Ise. Great documetary.
A beautiful and nostalgic film, it captures the spirit and equipment of the era perfectly. I had the pleasure of meeting Brian today, he's still interesting, still interested and still climbing!!!
Thanks for such lovely comments Andrew. it was great to have met you yesterday. Brian
Lovely
Great video really enjoyed it Always wanted to walk along the Ise...are their footpaths all the way along?
Hi Dave, Thanks for your comments.. There is not a footpath all the way. On the estates I asked permission but at other times I walked through fields that were probably private. I missed out sections where access was too difficult, but do have a go. It would be interesting to start from the Battlefield streams if the sources can be reached. Brian
Isham has a water mill with millstones still there when l played there in 60s
ISESham lsham? Saxon village
I would like to add my thanks and appreciation for this film. I am from Desborough, now in the USA and found myself transported back in time and location to somewhere that is close to my heart. So many hours spent playing "down the brook" fantastic times and memories. Thank you.❤
I attended that school for a couple of years, during which time it was the very old building and the gym across Brickhill Road. Then I saw the additional building being built from start to finish and Mr Manton showing this film in our classroom. I think he did that sort of thing as a hobby as I remember him showing other films on other topics. Oddly enough, the old building is still there and is currently being utilized for a different function, while the other two newer ones have long been demolished to make way for residential houses. I recognized a few of the pupils in the video, and some of the Teachers also, but I knew them only by their surname. I remember Bill Waters, Gareth, Calder, Shantilal and a few others. Shantilal always used to be called on to interpret for the other Indians who didn't speak much English. Those were the days indeed! Thanks, Mr Manton for sharing this video again - second time I've seen it now.
Wonderful...
What a lovely video to watch, I've lived and worked in this area and now drive a fuel tanker so spend a lot of time driving around, Wonderful area.
This was beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing your story and knowledge
Lovely video of the river I have recently been fishing some of the local stretches near me and you may be pleased to know I have caught a few chub
That is great; good to know that the river is clean enough for the fish.
Absolutely charming - thank you - a Wellingborough girl
Fantastic film - it's the river of my childhood too, having grown up in Geddington, literally 50 metres from her banks.
What an interesting and quite beautiful movie. I have learned so much. Can I ask, did the stream have more water and flow in it when you were a boy?
Perhaps the overall flow was similar but at that time there were wide parts where you could walk across and pools which were deep enough for swimming but now the banks have been built up and the pools narrowed so the flow does not vary so much. Thanks for your lovely comments.
Thanks for this. very well produced. As a Kettering lad for my first 18 years I enjoyed it. The Ise was always part of my childhood for adventure walks with mates in the 70s 80s. I haven't heard the term 'clicker' for years. Did he have 10 fingers or less? There is/was a spring to the Ise just east of the bridge on Deeble Road in Kettering. Great to hear you quoting John Clare. Beautiful video!
I always wonder who the cameraman is...and are they safe?
I took most of the pics, usually at safe points. I was the younger one, then Tom took the ones of me. The ones of us both were taken by other climbers. We were reasonably safe although the rope was a bit slack on the shoulder.
Stumbled across this beautiful film by chance and so glad I did.
What a superb film Brian. It is a lovely stream.
Superb, really enjoyed this. Thank you.
They were good days. So long ago!
Once upon a time there was a tavern Where we used to raise a glass or two Remember how we laughed away the hours And dreamed of all the great things we would do Those were the days my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose For we were young and sure to have our way. La la la la...
Blimey it's like an old school reunion.. and went rock climbing and pot holing in Derbyshire where we had Kendals Mint Cake and Mr Manton's pankcakes... Squashie
Glad you liked it. Such a long time ago; not many of the teachers still alive now.
SO nostalgic!
Love these climbing videos
Thanks Lee. At least they are memories that we shall be able to enjoy when we are too old to climb. Brian
Not familiar with the area but this film is fantastic and very interesting indeed, thank you for sharing.
Thanks Brian - my birding patch is the Ise valley at The Slips between Great Harrowden and Finedon. Many happy hours fishing and walking there too . Like Brian Sharp below got Ise water in me blood !
What a wonderful love letter to the landscape and your childhood Brian. Thoroughly enjoyed taking the journey with you for half an hour. All the best from up the road at 100A
Thanks Dean. Glad you enjoyed the journey. Have enjoyed and am still enjoying life's journey. Best wishes to the family.
A really enjoyable watch - I Can only imagine the time and dedication it took to produce for all to enjoy - thank you
Thank you Steve for such lovely comments. I am so glad you enjoyed it. You live in a lovely village. Keep enjoying life. Brian Manton
Thank you for such a lovely short film. The Ise was the river of my childhood too - I grew up in Geddington and the river was no more than 50 yards from the bottom of our back garden (in fact, it got a lot closer than that during the floods!) My childhood was spent with friends catching bullheads, sticklebacks and stone loaches in the river. Such fond memories. The Ise is and will always remain a treasured part of my childhood... thank you again!
I’ve spent the last 10 years clearing litter from the Slade Brook and River Ise, in total we’ve removed 15 tonnes of plastic and detritus from the area. Hopefully our efforts have contributed to the plastic free vista that she was surprised by. As soon as lockdown ends, I’ll be back on the Ise around Kettering and Barton, clearing up as much as I can. Hopefully I’ll reach my 100 tonnes target in the future😁🤣😍♥️
You are brilliant. We were so impressed by the cleanliness of the Ise. Thank you so much for the work and for letting us know. Brian Manton and Pauline Toseland
That's amazing...wish people were more appreciative of the countryside around them.
MARVELLOUS!!!
Hello Brian, a very interesting video, it was fantastic to see and hear you again after all these years, Class3B. I have great memories of you showing me and Matin Dixey how to use the schools photo darkroom and all the practical aspects of your maths lessons. Photography is still a passion of mine so thank you for the inspiration.
Thanks very much Philip. Glad you enjoyed it. It has been a long time since Westfield days!
this is the gratest video i have ever watched
All I can say is when's the next film coming out.
I grew up in Rothwell, now living in Oz. Seeing this brings back lots of childhood memories. Thank you.
lovely film my friend , im 52 and have lived in barton seagrave all my life . being an angler the ise is in my blood and i fish around the cheyne walk area regularly and have had some good bags of roach . its a shame you missed out the burton latimer section as thats where ive had my biggest chub . its a beautiful river and we are lucky to have it on our doorstep
What a loverly video, thank you. Could you canoe down the Ise?
Enjoyed that video, thank you very much, I live just 200 metres from Roman bridge where you covered in the video. My own question on where exactly it started from has now been answered, thank you both Jon
Amazing!! Some great history Glad to be a part of this video! William 😄
Great that you have seen it William. Thanks for your help. Best wishes to the family.
Beautiful gentle piece, really enjoyed watching and listening to the lovely accents of the Shire
Fantastic. I've got Ise water in my blood too. Thanks for making and sharing this.
Lovely, I spent lot of time in the stretch between Warkton and the tennis courts, now a skate park I believe. Thanks for sharing, brought back some great memories.
Glad you enjoyed it
