Life in Middle Tennessee is about motorcycles, horses, wildlife, hunting, guns and farming.
Taurus Judge vs Ruger LCR 357 Magnum
I have a pest problem on the farm. I want to know which of these guns would do a better job of controlling the pests.

Ravin R500 Crossbow First shots at 100 yards

For some strange reason I thought it would be a good idea to buy a crossbow. You know.... ammo prices, gun regulations, zombies, etc.
Glock 17 vs Ruger Mk3
Просмотров 1083 года назад
Let' see what groups better at 25 yards. I am comparing a brand new stock Glock 17 gen 5 to a modified Ruger Mk III. I have plans to upgrade the Glock and wanted a baseline to compare against once all the upgrades are completed.
22LR Group Challenge
Просмотров 2 тыс.3 года назад
I'm back at it trying another one of Dayattherange.com 22lr challenges. Using my Savage MK2 Mako Edition with the Vortex Diamondback Tactical 5-25x50 first focal plane scope and Lapua Midas ammunition I will attempt the "Smallest Group" challenge.

CMP 1911 Finally Arrives!

I have been waiting more than 2 years for this gun. We are going to examine it, shoot it, disassemble it, clean it, reassemble it and then call it a day.
22 LR Ammo Test
Просмотров 13 тыс.4 года назад
22 LR CCI Standard Velocity, Federal Gold Medal Match, Lapua Center X and Ely Match are the four ammo choices tested. The test gun was a Savage MK2 Mako Edition and all groups were 5 shots at 50 yards with the barrel cleaned between ammos.
M1 Garand and the 4th of July

Its the 4th so why not shoot an M1 Garand? Oh yeah, and there is Tannerite involved as well!
Oldest Flying DC3

I just happened to catch the takeoff of The Flagship Detroit DC3 from the Shelbyville Tennessee airport today
I've seen some promo vid of that crossbow and it was able to make a rifle-like group in from a 100 yards away, so it's defo not the crossbow's fault that the shots are spread that much (still good) 😅
Engine Sound: Wright R-1820
This seems a good way to test. Ive been trying just a group of 5 from one brand, then another and another , repeat etc. The results are erratic and leave you confused about what it really likes best. Im only interested in hollow point as for rabbit shooting, last night in the wind at 50m 0.6" is the best i had which is acceptable to good in my mind though ive done better in the past.
Bloke how much u want 4 it
Bloke how long did you wait. What you get. What condition is it in. Is the slide 🛝 👀 🤔 superchill
Get yourself some.001 arrows!
Clever use of a plant hanger.
When conditions are right and I do my part, I consistently do 2 1/2” to 3” groups at 100 with my R10. At 50 and under I don’t shoot groups as it’s too expensive. 1 aiming spot per arrow.
Clean looking pistol! You load it like a right hander but then fire it left handed, gotta work on those fundamentals!
I have a R500. How difficult was it to remove the arrows from the target?
What a ridiculous comparison. It’s like comparing a Volkswagen beetle and a 18 wheeler tractor trailer.
Glad I’m not a snake on your farm! Great video - thanks
anyone shooting at a beast at a 100 yards is stupid
Really good!
A really good.357 magnum JHP in that LCR would have caused some very massive damage to the water bottle as well.
Really cool video I enjoyed it. The only suggestion I would have had was CCI makes a rodent and Pest Control round for the 22 LR as well and that would have been a better comparison
I will look for some of that CCI Rodent rounds for the 22. I did not know they made that
Federal handgun buckshot is the most impressive ammo for the judge. Even at 25 yards you can put four .36 calibers on a human sized target. It would say its more suited for 12 yards and in though(house defense).
I do have some buckshot for when the Judge is used for "other" purposes.
@@ericklarson8530 be sure it's federal. The performance profile is leagues better than any other option. For example, Remington has a 4ft spread at 25 yards.
im entered in the third round - and if im lucky enough to get one im gonna take the first test shots with the tag on - just because i think its cool - and then probley leave the tag on too
Great job. all of those would have been kill shots, Without the wind, Im sure all of them would have been spot on!
if the deer stayed still
Good video 👍🏻😊
Where is the upgrades? I want to buy a g17 for my parents!
Thanks for the review- big jump for you to take considering the cost of the bow...going from no crossbow experience to top of the line. I bought a Ravin R9 when they came out 5 years ago and it has killed many deer over the course of those years, including some wall hangers. Make sure you do everything Ravin recommends for the bow in terms of regular maintenance. Also, a tip for extending the life of all the components is to not shoot the thing too much. I zero it for the season, and only shoot it when hunting, along with about 3 shots each month during the off-season. Practice makes perfect, but with these high speed bows, all the components are really stressed. In regard to distance in a hunting scenario, I basically keep the shots limited to under 50 yrds. I did shoot one last year at 50 with my Scorpyd crossbow (shoots at approximately 420 fps, and it seemed like it took forever for the arrow to contact the deer). And they CAN jump that string if they are alert to your presence. I took just a 20 yard shot at a doe a number of years ago and she ducked the arrow when it was traveling 420 fps, but she was looing straight at me. I had deer jump the string on me with my compound bow and I neve thought one could do it with an arrow traveling at that speed at such a close distance, but they most certainly can. Good luck to you on the upcoming season.
Thank you for the comment and advice. I agree with you about keeping shots within 50 yards. A clean ethical kill should be the goal of every hunter. My hunting area confines any good shot to about 40 to 45 yards anyway. I have a good Raven dealer near to me and will follow all dealer recommendations. However, I feel I do need a few more sessions before I am comfortable with this crossbow.
Pays thousands of dollars for an awesome crossbow... But don't shoot it much! It wont last long if you do!!! Hahahahaha It is absolutely PROVEN that a recurve and compound bows that shoot under 300fps kill deer all day no problem. The point of a crossbow like this is to have fun with as anything will put meat on the table/thin the heard. So then as a play toy, it's useless if you can't play with it. I bought a Sub1 because they can be shot frequently with things exploding very often. Cables and the string can be done at home with one tool (9/32 Allen wrench) and about 10 minutes. Some people like me bought it to have fun with as much or more so than hunt. What's the point of a crossbow you can't enjoy?
I bought this crossbow but I know nothing about crossbows, traditional bows or bow hunting. I am looking forward to learning all I can about this sport. Your tips and comments would be appreciated. Thanks for watching.
Got mine today. Super pleased!
That cases the cheapest $5 piece of plastic and find $100 Guys crazy
No voice audio !
you'd make a hell of a police hostage negotiator ! "let's go ahead and waste the hostage" LOL, priceless
Thanks for sharing. From a budget viewpoint, the CCI performed quite well. If you have the finances, the Lapua is the way to go with your platform.
You should actually zero the rifle and you might actually hit your mark.
You're too far from the mic. I can hardly hear you.
On the original mags the last inch near the top isn't blued
The mag that came with the gun was definitely not original. It appears to be brand new. I will check my other mags for a change in the blueing near the top. Thanks for the info!
Those aren't flaws. Those are historic character!! Congrats!!
You're right! Thank you for the comment.
My first video in quite a while. 2021 has started off a bit wierd for me. I caught that flu that we have all been "masked up" and trying to avoid. It turned into Pneumonia and a trip to the ER and a hospital visit. God Bless the staff at the Murfreesboro VA Hospital! They provided excellent care and I am now back to normal. Then we had big ice storm here in Tennessee. We were stuck on the farm with lots of downed trees for a while. I hope thats it for extreme happenings in 2021. As soon as the parts for the Glock arrive I will film another video and compare the groupings. I hope to see big improvements!!
This is why you perfectly practice so you automatically use the fundamentals when the timer starts. You learned and improved! Thanks for the video and another rabbit hole to fall down.
Thank you for the comment!
Hi Erik....looking in from UK. as you know all hand guns are banned in UK for private ownership. Back in 1997 I was in gun club and owned a stainless Springfield 1911A1 this back then cost me £700 British Pounds..brand new . When all handguns were banned in UK every handgun had to be surrended to the Police and compensation give. We were only given £150 for each weapon surrended.....it was not taken into consideration of how much the weopon cost when bought even if you had the proof of purchase. It was a case of hand in your gun or be prosecuted and maybe a hefty fine and jail time. So if you owned a gold plated Desert Eagle for example you still only got £150....Hows that for being screwed over by the government? My dream at the time in 1997 was to own a United states property 1911A1....but these were very very very hard to find in UK....all most impossible.....my question to you is ....how much would a 1911A1 cost like yours?...To be caught now in UK with an illegal handguy is 5 years jail time no questions..At the time of the bann law abiding gun owners in UK lost thousands of pounds......yet the criminals with illegal guns STILL roam the steets of british streets.....most guns now are smuggled into UK from Eastern Europe by drug gangs etc.
Thanks for the comment. I hope the US does not take the same path as the UK regarding confiscation. I am sure many here would strongly resist that. Your story is another example that our freedoms are fragile and must be protected.
Thank you for the informative ammo comparison (the CCI Standard results surprised me). You asked... and my response on my favorite "adjusted" 22LR ammo is SK Long Range Match AND Lapua Center X. However, I do "modify" each brand of 22LR to achieve tighter groups at 50 and 100 yards (no wind at 100!!!). Refer to another video on this site (search with "Neal Waltz) to review how I adjust the driving rings to achieve a even 0.225 diameter.
Thank you for the comment. I watched some videos about reprofiling the 22lr bullet with a Neal Waltz die. I found that very interesting. It seems that small but measurable gains in performance (i.e. smaller group size) can be acheived by doing this.
Great job at the Hostage Target. Looks hard. Jealous, we still have 2’ snow on the ground. Be awhile before we can comfortably get to a range.
Out here we had a few inches of snow and the whole world stopped. 😆 I am hoping to get out this weekend and film some long distance 22lr target shooting. I hope to get out past 300 yards. Thanks for watching!
I searched for nearly 5 years for a S&W 586 4" in a condition that was appealing to me. It was worth the wait. I am waiting for my number to come up for the CMP 1911. Hopefully I'll make the cut.
You have more patience than I do for sure! I'm hoping your number comes up soon and you get really nice one. Thanks for watching!
Congrats that is a beauty.
Thank You!
You shot 7 rounds.
I sure did. If you replay the video slow motion you will see something wierd with the 7th shot. An orange flame bursts from the barrel unlike any of the shots before it. Not sure what exactly happen ed but I suspect it was an ammo issue and not a gun issue. Thanks for watching!
A well planned and executed ammo test but I was disappointed with the results from a bolt rifle....
I am planning an update to this video where I use a more stable rest of sandbags. The Caldwell front rest was not as stable as I had hoped. Of course the most inaccurate piece of the puzzle is me. I am not an expert shot. I would only consider myself better than average on a good day. Thanks for watching!
Looks like you need a little left windage Lol
Well, at least I was consistent. All my shots went right. Lol. Thanks for watching!
I got the call from CMP today. I never thought it would come. I just sent the updated FFL (me) and called in the payment. Nice lady there says it ships next week. Rack grade fit the budget.
Congrats!! Hope its a nice one.
Your set up did a great job! To reduce a .31 group will probably take many attempts. I know from experience with this challenge. My best rifle is a CZ 457MTR and second is an Anschutz Mark 10B which is a relatively inexpensive rifle, using SK Pistol Match Special.
Day at the Range has another challenge going for the smallest groups. Check out his prior videos to find those targets. I spent a good amount of time this summer trying to better my score. Can not count the number of times I would have almost 4 shots in one hole that the fifth would not cooperate. Welcome to his challenges !
I just did a video for that one too! Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/lyDBpbV4Fy4/видео.html I also had several groups that would have been awesome except for one errant shot. These challenges are fun shoots and build good fundamentals. Thanks for watching.
I just put my CMP packet into the FedEx mail today for a round 2 purchase. Sure hope I do as well as you did. Thanks for the video.
You're welcome! I hope you get yours quicker than I did.
Expense ahead of a hostage. HOPE YOUR A BETTER NEGOCIATER
2.5 year wait? Can you explain the process and why it took so long?
I am not sure I understand why it took so long. There was a 30 day window to turn in your completed application. I believe they received vastly more applications than they expected. Next, a lottey number was assigned for each correctly completed application. From there I think it was just luck of the draw. I think the government released the guns in batches and then the CMP had to catalog, inspect and grade each one. As I mentioned in the video I completely forgot I had even submitted an application. One day I answered a call from Alabama and a week later I had this gun.
@@ericklarson8530 thanks. I think the cmp realized in 2020 that they had more pistols and made them available to the initial batch of people who were not selected.
While one part of the CMP processes the packets: validate, background check, sort by order and by desired grade, another part is cataloging, grading, disassembling, cleaning, replacing parts as necessary, refinishing some 1911s, reassembly and finally testing, inspection, packaging and finally shipping. They have a limited number of very experienced staff that works only on the firearms. Then you have to account for vacation time, sick time people who leave and new people that need to be hired, cleared and trained to do what they do.
I have some originally grips with the orange painted numbers .
