    What if the air puts too much pressure on the door so tenants cannot open door as once the system alarms too much pressure is on the door for a renter to open it.

    Thanks for that. You see the brass panels you mentioned that say things like 'Smoke Outlet from Basement below' and the like, well, my dad made thousands of those when he worked in a foundry in Dartford in the early 1970s. I've got one on my desk right in front of me as I type this.

    There is a typo in your recap slide at 1.32 that says 'Type 2 FRA' when it is recapping type 1 FRAs. Otherwise a good summation

    So, would you compare evacuation drill against ASET as your benchmark to evaluate your evacuation performance? Or are there other means/benchmarks to measure evacuation performance (in terms of time)?

    Naive question: how do the ventilation systems avoid feeding the fire with air?

    • @sincostangerine1507
      @sincostangerine1507 4 месяца назад

      they don’t avoid this, the systems are only designed to allow occupants to escape by removing smoke, the inlets are there to replace the air removed by the extract in order to prevent too low a pressure forming.

    I have a quistion if you dont mind, so the only way to calculate the RSET AND ASET are only by CFD models or it can be done by hand calculations?

    • @alirezatootoonchian9670
      @alirezatootoonchian9670 9 месяцев назад

      Not sure if you're still looking for an answer after 9 months but yes this can be done by hand calculations. As a matter of fact, this was part of my education to calculate it manually. It's a little tedious work and you need to organise your calculations, but certainly can be done. You can assume a fire growth and fire size and calculate the RSET. Then you can calculate the evaucation time ASET by making some assumptions from the recent research on evacuation. While it's possible to do it by hand, it may be better to use software for it. My two reasons for this suggestion is: 1. It's much easier to work with a software as engineer and try to optimise the work/calculation. 2. It's much easier to be verified by inspectors, fire brigade, or any fire engineer who is assigned to check your work.

    Great content guys, thanks for this. Just had a few queries with regards to this topic in light of the BS9991 2021 draft: How would you incorporate an air release path within a high rise single stair building with pressurisation given there is no access to the facade from the common corridor? If the system design criteria is the same (pressures / velocities), then would the sizing of the openings also be the same? Also, for a common corridor with an extended travel distance in a high rise single stair building, what are the implications of an independent MSVS (required to justify the extended travel distance) working in conjunction with the required pressurisation system, and how do you think this can be overcome?
