I don’t get to catch a lot of these shows but the Live ones I do catch, you are all amazing and I am so very much appreciative of the advice and positive feedback you all give! Thank you! Til next time, Make Mine Silverline!
Great channel just got my free comic Champion n Ms. Fury thx!
Excellent! We can't wait to hear what you think about it!
I watched a video and I wish I could remember what was said exactally. But it was about how some old pieces of music may not have been played how we think they were played - even though we have the music for them so you'd think we'd know..... I THINK THAT BEETHOVEN WAS A FOCUS OF THE VIDEO.... I don't know how to describe most of it because I have a bad memory and it dealt with math (as music does) but at the time I thought it was very interesting, being some of the pieces being spoke on were some of the most major historic pieces.
you dont find this video this video finds you
Great interview! Liked hearing the history of how G-Man came about.
the company structure of Malibu showed in its animated half season show ULTRA-FORCE in many ways. There were other animated projects whose build paralleled their company structures within that same era. The prime example I would give would be the WildC.A.T.S. animated show, whose structure mirrored Images company structure in many ways. If you told me 6 different creative teams were brought together and given 2 episodes to write with no cooperate between each other I would believe it. The story moved along but there were aspects that were missing that good team cordination could have fixed - the ULTRA-FORCE show was better in every single way structurally as it seemed the company as a team came together and really knew what they were doing... After watching the show I have always told myself that as a company Malibu seemed to be very well organized.
On the whole, I would agree.
On characters remaining the same age over the last 80 years... If we expect progression to individuals stories, and character growth to characters as they gain more stories, than why don't we want our characters to age as time passes. Weather they age with the real world, or it scales differently, seeing a character age (that isn't immortal) should be a must... So as time passes, they have less and less stories in their prime and wholes in their life can be seen and filled.... No matter how great a character a company has, there will always be relevant characters, so a great company that evolves with time can always create new ones as time goes on...
Over Powering Characters - one problem is rogues galleries that are static. they should flow, and rogues should be sheared and at time may fight one character more than another. It makes no sense that individual characters have their own gallery when many times they are in the same areas as other heroes and or villains. This will make it so villains can have more than one hero they fight and so better matches can be created from the start of a characters creation...
Dan's such a great guy. What a mind! :)
Agreed! And he's already said he'd come back some time! :)
I am kicking myself for not making it to this one live, folks. Dan is such a thoughtful and enthusiastic creator; he is really someone that I hope people take up as one of the new "role models" for how to approach this crazy business/medium. I enjoyed the heck out of this one.
I'm just glad you were able to catch the replay of it! Thanks for tuning in!
Great show! Really enjoying Dan’s take on Flash Gordon!
Thank you, Hyper! Thanks for all the love we get from you! <3!
Wow this is a great topic connecting real life and comics
This Silverline Series Corillating Life/Life aspects to comics is very compelling and I haven't seen any other channel do it. I don't waight lift but I do think this is one of the best ones I've watched. I will say that this is the only video that doesn't list it as being within the series as all others have titles that stated the life aspect and than corilation to comics. Maybe you don't have it in its own video group list, but you should because this is going to be something I'd suggest as a series for others to watch....
Thank you for the kind words. We believe that Silverline is a unique bunch of comic folks! :)
Loved every minute of this! Fantastic to hear such stories direct from the writers offices. Well done, all, and congratulations to Greg for such a wonderful career (and his new vocation with special needs children)
Thanks for giving us a listen! Greg was indeed awesome!
This was an amazing interview and I enjoyed listening to it
Thanks! And thanks for tuning in!
great live chat
Scott Wakefield - sending off a classic fictional character and or world in enough style for everyone to pop a bottle over, as it sails into the sea of public domain is something I wish could be done with all characters/groups/worlds. ..... While that may be impossible, I do believe that every charactergroup/world should have an amazing comic book origin story, and or origin run, and or origin ark... In this way anyone who finds the IP and wishes to continue the story will have that option, and a strong starting foundation.
You have been speaking on public domain characters that have flushed out worlds and many stories for them, and so I can see why Aaron "i draw stuff" doesn't like public domain characters in that vain, but unlike many of the IP's your speaking on, many of the public domain superhero characters have little to their stories, and may have many aspects that make little or no sense, and taking them and recreating them so they make sense and have a world build around them that wasn't originally done as they were passed up by characters that have become the heroes and villains we all know.... I think that is different. Once these characters have the right world built around them (witch may take as much work than for a new character) some may end up becoming just as good or better than the characters they were orignally passed up for. Another great reason to use improved public domain characters is they are a great way to fill out your universe, as a public domain character may fill a nitche(s) within a universe, and sometimes they may unlock potential of your characters and your universes as a whole.
Thanks for having Paul on for a chat! I've met Mr. K a few times at Terrificon, and he always mentions that his son's name is Max, and is gracious enough to joke around with me and my old nerd buddies as we give him money for stuff :) His JSA novel from Crazy 8 publishing and his debut YA novel are great, not to mention his stories in the Thrilling Adventure Yarns anthologies!
Thanks for listening! Paul is a great guy and we plan to have him on as many times as he cares to return!
it seems like The Shadow is (or was) huge here in the U.S. and the Phantom is huge across the world
great artwork, with tailor made potential for many kinds of story
We agree--we're still trying to convince him that his pencils should grace a Silverline book! ;)
Asked my shop about silverline and he is going to order a bit of Trumps and Keyless
YES! Thank you very much!
LOL you just THINK you know! haha
Wow! ❤
Descender/Ascender would make an excellent space epic, and the story is actually complete!
i see Mr John Metych! Long time no see buddy!
Now I have a list of back issues to get on the next kickstarter
Excellent, and THANK YOU! Yes, please, as the kickstarters are the best place to pick them up.
VERY cool discussion, and I am also QUITE intrigued by the "2024 plans" that got hinted at near the end, there :)
Great episode! Did you notice how on a few of the questions they couldn't follow directions? "Which donut is better: Krispy Kreme or Dunkins?" I don't like your options so I'm going to make one up! LOL Still--good fun! Two asterisk corrections: 1)Cat & Mouse WAS optioned (I didn't reject it. Mitch and I both got a little Hollywood money); 2)It was still set in New Orleans, they just put underground tunnels everywhere AND reversed the sex of the characters! UGH
Luis and Leandro are killing it on Kayless!
Agreed!
Already secured me a cover, and strongly looking to get another page. Hopefully someone doesn’t beat me to it!
Excellent...and thank you!
Fun episode. Rob's an amazing talent and great collaborator.
We agree. What a wealth of talent and experience!!
Great examination of the technology, you guys.
Thanks!
❤
Awesome to see Bill Black at the end tag! The recent documentary about him ("Strange Luck") was fantastic!
Bill Black is awesome!
Another vote for Maiden on the channel! The newest record is great! :)
Thanks for the insight.
Some good and motivating stuff in this episode. Thank you for sharing.
Thank YOU for watching!
Excellent dialog. Needs more pictures!
That Chris guy a liar
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGHGHHGHGHGH! Missed this. Yes. Important - to establish a standard. Possibly a really good idea to get fresh talent up and running. No. Because individual styles will always shine through. That said - DC has a certain type of feeling, and Marvel has a certain type of feeling. When an artist jumps from one company to the other their story telling feels different - could that be due to the underpinnings of the "house style" from years gone by?
Thanks for tuning in late. Love these thoughts...would have been fun to talk about your question! :)
Oops! Missed this while it was live so I am watching now. Matt Wendt is my nephew and that is my late husband's picture on the wall behind him. Read Sons of Ashgard on my Kindle yesterday. Great story and great graphics!! I'm ready for a Sons of Ashgard #2.
Thanks for the kind words and support, Bonnie! Happy to hear you were able to get a copy and enjoyed it. Might be a bit until an Ashgard #2 comes out, but we certainly do have plans and are working on something...but more on that a little later ;)
Make mine Silverline!
HYPER!!! <3
great show
Thank you!
Um, So, did I totally miss it? Is Free Comic Book Day good for comics or not? I think you guys never got to it.
LOL it was good for us, yes! :)
Subscribed! Some great listening while ink slappin in Belgium.
Storyline -- Love the 13th Warrior movie and the original book by Crichton (Eaters of the Dead) was great also.
Never read the book just saw the movie, which was an inventive way of reimagining the Beowulf saga.
Thanks for the opportunity!
What a great conversation! Ross and Boom! are doing a great job out there, and of COURSE it's always awesome to hear some Malibu stories! And don't worry Roland, I had a heck of a mullet back during part of the 90s myself! :)
LOL I think we ALL did, right? Thank you for tuning in!
I agree
Great minds...
