it looks like a piece of s..... it is so bad that I think it is a joke

I have one of these and would use it for wedding ceremonies as it is super compact. I had to retire it due to it eventually making weird cracking sounds during music playback. It probably lasted about 2 years of using it damn near every weekend. I did have one nightmare scenario where it totally froze up in a hot day right before a bride was about to walk the aisle. No it was not in the direct sun during this issue. Great for using at frat parties, but if you need to rely on this thing to make you money its a hard pass.

Can you use outside with tarps?

IMO, for $500 you cannot beat the Olympus OM-D E-M1 - $350 + Lumix G 14mm f/2.5 for $150 or for $100 more the Lumix 20mm f/1.7. The weight of this set up is 497 grams for the camera and 55 grams for the lens or less than a pound. With the 20mm total weight for the camera and lens is 19oz. Got more $$? You can buy the OM-5 used in excellent condition from MPB for $974 and the Olympus 12-45 f/4 Pro for $534 in like new condition. The lens weighs 259 grams and the camera 414 grams, so total weight of lens and camera is <1.5lbs.
