Easter greetings, Walsh smallpipes and a wee disco tune.
I like the way you articulate the grace notes. I think that the grace notes played well add to the special musical sounds only heard on pipes and this separates the highland bagpipes and other pipes from other instruments. With other instruments we can make our sound louder or softer to articulate our emotion in a piece of music or indeed the emotions of the author. In pipes we cannot do this so I think the grace notes played well is very important.
You can just stop and start the drones with a finger instead of farting about with pipe cleaners !
I will add that one to my list.
I am getting a set John Walsh A2000's in a couple of months, this really helps.
Glad to hear that - they are terrific!
I use golf tee's to plug the drones for tuning
Beth, you taught me pipes many years ago. I am happy to say that, after a break while my children were growing up and career demands kept me busy, I am still playing pipes. I think of you often and am ever-grateful of the gift you gave me. Thank you!
Dear Alec; thank you for the wonderful feedback, and I am very pleased you still play your pipes. I wish you well and hope you enjoy the videos!
i thought this wuz sometin else
Thank you for solving a 19 year old mystery for me!! When I was 17 I was at a summer camp and one of the counselors from 2 campsites over was a piper and would play this every morning to wake us up.. that melody had been burned into my head for 19 years hearing it every morning for 2 weeks straight and I never knew what the song was called til now!
Thank you so much for playing this!! When I was about 17 year 2005, and im 37 now) I was at a summer camp and one of the counselors was a piper and every morning would wake us up by playing "the Thistle of Scotland" on her pipes and I never knew what the song was called until now but that melody has been stuck in my head for 19 years, after hearing it every morning for two weeks straight and I never knew any pipers to ask what the name of that song was! I couldn't ask said camp counselor at the time because she wasn't our counselor... you could hear her pipes from two campsites over !! But thank you for finally solving a 19 year old mystery for me!
Well played ❤
Well done.
Awesome ❤
Great initiative ! Thank you, Pipie !!
Thank you so much. It’s so tough sometimes raising money, but this way we can get global help and then have a global fund. It’ll be so great!
Happy birthday, Derwin
Thanks for the coverage of our event - we had a great time, and are happy that so many people came out.
that high A needs some tuning...
I agree!!
Amazing ❤
Edinboro.
Thank you so much I’m practising for my solo so this is really going to help
Great Bethany- I would really like it if you did rowantree to please
I can do that!
Good morning! I have done an uploaded the video, and I hope that you like it. All the best, Bethany.
Thank you and I’m glad you enjoy the music!
Bravo and much love ❤!
Is that an Abercrombie tartan?
That would be the Campbell of Argyll. It’s dark and easy to match accessories to!
fixorchange your chanter reed
I think it’s okay. The pitch might not match someone else’s pitch but that’s what happens.
I love this song. Such a unique melody. I have played along with you many time to this video. Thanks for posting.
Many aren't happy with the new scores--but when played in the massed bands setting, they sound quite effective and because they are more simple than the older version, they articulate mote cleanly 1:16
It still sounds pretty shite imo. The old scores weren't difficult, bar the first line of the 4/4, but even that was workable in a large drum core. The old 4/4 bridge sounds so much better when played en masses as well.
Great version! x
Well done 🥁
Superb ! Thank you, Bethany !
Jeannie Campbell is indeed a national treasure ! Thank you Bethany for your video !
you guys keep going! youre doing great!
I SO love that! The SOS are awesome!
When I listen to you “tune” I can clearly hear when the ‘one note’ is hit, but when I’m trying to tune my drones, not a chance! The chanter sounds sharp & I can get the tenor tuned but that’s itI had the tenor & bass nicely tuned, then messed around with them & for 3 weeks now it’s been a struggle😔 and I can’t get that ‘pure’ sound back. I know I need more time improving my breathing & squeezing as I’m new to it all, but this tuning is driving me mental…not looking for answers, just venting I guess😅
Do you know how to reset the chanter so it's not too sharp? You need to raise it out of the reed seat - a bit of hemp will help. Let me know if I can assist further, but practice is the best teacher!
@@Bethany11100 😝🤣 no! I have no idea, but I really think the issue is me! I just need more practice & more time, I had perfect by “chance’ but I messed it up!! I’m going to just get the tenor tuned gif now & play, practice with one drone only until I “perfect” that. It seems easier some days than others. like life! Thank you, I may ask for your help in the future
Thank you very much for sharing your videos🤩 Admire your excellent technique ⭐
Thank you very much!
back again to listen! there’s not a lot of “smallpipes” J Walsh I can compare myself to😝 as a newbie! Still enjoying it, still ‘struggling” with tuning my drones but getting better!
Can you please make a video on how you clean your John Walsh small pipes? I am new to piping and I have the same set. I love your videos! Your video using the pipe cleaners to mute the drones was really helpful!
Hi Ethan; thanks for your message! On my Easter Greetings video, I go over care and maintenance of the pipes. Then at lesson, I let a young student try them. Now he's hooked!!! Keep practising and having fun!
Excellent video, Bethany, im so excited for Tartan Day!!!
That's fantastic - it should be a lot of fun!
I like that last note! :^) I'll check the # of verses we have.
I can alter to suit you!
This is coming in handy again! TY
Fantastic! Looking forward to it.
and you’re tuning your low A on all 3 drones? sorry , newbie here, this is very helpful…thanks so much!
I do - my ear does best to that note.
@@Bethany11100 good! that’s what I’m doing, or attempting to do as well, but was told I should tune to E ?? do I’ll stick with A…thanks so much!
I’m ready to tune my drones, I have the same pipes, Walsh small pipes in A. I’m new to this so Im thinking I plug 2 drones and tune the unplugged drone, one at a time, to A, E & A. Do you use a tuner app? or just by ear? any suggestions round be appreciated…thank you!
Hi Kimberley; I use my ear to tune my drones to the Low A on the chanter. That seems to be the best note for my ear, but you can do it differently. I then play the scale, and see how the sound compares on other notes. We often blow a bit differently when playing a tune than just one note, so you have to make adjustments as you go. If you're close, give a tune and try, and then give a little retune. And don't worry if it's wrong - a little turn of the drone will make it different, and maybe better! Have fun!
@@Bethany11100 Thanks so much! everything I was reading seemed so over-complicated, and I have a good “ear” so I will try your method, it seems a few others use this as well, simple is better for me & pleasing sound is what I’m after, thanks so much!
This is the the that placed at State titles. Thankyou
Again Thankyou
Thanks again Bethany
Beutifull pipe sound 👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌
Thank you kindly!
Nice play
Thank you; I have penned a second part and might need to record that someday! Cheers!
Beautiful! I’m new to piping, spent 8 months with a practice chanter, and just received my john walsh small pipes one week ago!! terrifying😂 but I e spent a week getting used to the spacing on the chanter, snd the squeezing, inhaling, blowing! I’m playing recognizable tunes & the breathing is getting much easier (my arm gets tired though) this was soooo inspirational!! now I just have to learn to tune my drones😊😊😊 Thank you!
Hi there! Thank you for the kind words. Getting used to the pipes is half the work; if you need any help, let me know. Cheers!
@@Bethany11100 thsnk you!! I may take you up on that offer👍☺
@@Bethany11100 Hi…if I could I have a few questions. 1- is it better to start with the drones plugged? just to get used to breathing/squeezing and chanter under control? I was thinking I’ll have to do everything eventually so I haven’t plugged my drones yet. ( I’ve just come off a practice chanter this is my first set of pipes) I know practice is the answer, but I love practicing so that is not an issue 2- I take the blowpipe apart ( the top/drip trap part) at the end of the day is that all I need to do? Thanks so much
@@kimberleyguilmette761 you certainly can- do you have a way to turn them off? You can rig up pipe cleaners to do that job!
@@Bethany11100 I've plugged 2 of the drones with q-tips, just left the small one open so I hear if the pressure us steady or not; already helping a lot!! thank you!
