TapWaterMixedReef
Добавлен 3 фев 2015
Small guy trying to get more people to join the reefing community. It's not as hard as we all think. I run mine with tap water and I believe we can agree that it looks nice for a simple set up running on the basics. You can do it too. It's Only hard because you have not looked up enough information. Are you the next reefer?
DIy live rock curing process/CONCRETE waterfall WITH A PURPOSE. fyi algae is photosynthetic.
In this video I go over how to make your diy rock reef safe. In this case I made a waterfall out of concrete to cover a section of my corner overflow for my reef aquarium. This is to solve -green hair algae problem, the algae was growing in my durso pipe and can potentially clog my drain thus this WATERFALL. Could of just cover the overflow section but why not make something creative and functional. Covering or blocking light from that section will not allow algae to continue to grow as it is photosynthetic. #waterfall #diyliverock #diyconcrete #diydiyconcreteliverock#howtocurediyliverock #aquarium #reefobsessed #fish #marineaquarium #reeftank #enjoylife #fishtank #keepgrowing #lookinggood

I have a problem with green hair algae growing in my overflow section of the reef, my solution is to cover the light that spills into the overflow section. What a better way to solve a problem and add to the reef tank. I've made a waterfall out of concrete. There is a small pool that will build up with water which will give me the opportunity to possibly grow some corals there. If you guys will...

salinity and magnesium stability in reef tank
Просмотров 145Месяц назад
hey guys, if you guys are suddenly experiencing low magnesium levels when it has been constantly stable in the past. if you experience low mag and you can't seem to keep it stable even when adding more, pls check your salinity. you might have experience a sudden drop in salinity and that would be the cause to you magnesium dropping dramatically. hope this helps some of you new reefers. hope you...

you can grow lots of corals using tap water. I don't have an RODI unit and this reef is turning one year old on September 2024. some corals don't do to well. but as you can see I even got a few across growing, all these corals were slowly added throughout the year. pls feel free to ask questions. yes there are some corals that are not doing so well, but I'm looking into it. thanks for watching.
torches coral and magnesium

hey guys, if your torch(s) is not doing so well ( retracted ect) test mag, torches love being on the higher side to be healthy from my experience. if it's low pls raise slowly as your snails can go into shock.

What's that one orange one in the back?
Not sure if you are talking about the rose bubble tip anemone's or the monticap at the center of the tank. Anemone's are at the top right of the tank
Interesting phenomenon! You have beautiful corals! I like very much the Clam!😊 The fish sitting there what species is it?
It's a lawnmower bleny, very curious fish. Always looking and being nosy. You can always catch him looking at you from some weird spot. Adds a very interesting personality to the tank. They are able to change from a light color to that very dark color. Thank you.
..here does not appear to be seriously affected by Ick.. I'm glad they got over it!👍
Joyful goby😊
@@Simple_Reef it's love and hate with this guy. Lol. He always puts sand on my corals in the sandbed.
@@DOTReef ..ha ha goby like the sand! I have a Mediterranean goby and it made a nest in 1/3 of the bottom! ..it digs all day!
@@Simple_Reef yes. I enjoy the landscape changes daily.😂
@@DOTReef ..the kind i have bears little resemblance to the tropical you have. ..yours is of course much more beautiful! It has some color too! Mine looks more like a lizard! 😊
@@Simple_Reef I believe every fish or coral adds a splash to the tank and hobby. I'm sure I would love that guy.
Beautiful!
Very beautiful corals and fish! I Love the Clam❤ It is one my favorite creatures!! What happened to the Ick?
Looks like it's gone for now. Will continue adding only polyplab medic for the time being, this way I can keep skimmer on, this will continue a few days until I'm sure there is no more. If you don't take this step, the ick might attach to the fish again. Obviously we want it completely gone.
@@DOTReef ..what caused the ick? Did you do something that stressed the fish? Or do you have an aggressive fish?
@@Simple_Reefnothing to stress fish, in one of the videos I stated I believe it came in on a rock that a new chilly coral was attached to. Ick can fall off fish and attach to other substances before it finds a new fish to attach to. Since this was the only thing I've changed I believe it's the only way it got into my tank.
Just posted a short showing how fish look at the time.
Very beautiful! I like this scape!👍👍
Thank you for watching. Appreciate the feedback. Will post more as I see if any information can help anyone.
What tank is that I like it subbed if u can too I appreciate it
Awesome thank you. I will
Thanks for sharing... 🙌👌✌
Thank you , worked hard on making it out of concrete myself and went through a big curing process to make it reef safe. Glad someone else also likes it. Thanks again
Thanks for watching. Will try to post as I see fit
What's the tds of your tap water?
To be honest I've never tested my TDS, I live in Los Angeles not sure if that provides any help. The only thing I do to treat my tap water is (safe) from SEACHEM. my ATO is filled with tap water, I add the safe base on instructions, and since my ATO is also taking care of my Alkalinity, I add soda ash in there as well. Does the trick forme.
New to you’re channel The tank looks beautiful
Thank you, feel free to ask questions.
I been in this hobby for a while and I’m hearing about this now. I’ll give it a try. Thanks.
Works great. Depending on water volume you calcium might end up higher or lower. In my small 20 gallon, I cut the sea lab 28 block in half, keeps the calcium lower. I've ran it this way for over two years now with no I'll effects. Best of luck. Happy reefing
Beautiful tank. Hard to believe it is on tap water. You ever tested your city water? Or measured the TDS of it?
thank you, yes I know took me a while to test what corals do good on tap water, I'm currently testing acropora in the tank, have success with some but not with others. no never tested tds. all I do is treat the ato with safe.
You're lucky you still have a tank left, any chemicals will destroy that tank. Glad to see everything else is good
I immediately removed my hands from the tank as soon as I realized my mistake and ran carbon. Yes I'm lucky.
Beautiful tank. I see you're using my method of keeping your LFS in business single handedly. When that grows in, it's gonna be amazing
Lol. Yes actually a few lfs around my area. Different lfs have different corals. Thank you. Sometimes it's hard not to buy any more corals.
Looks great. What is the hammer to the right. Is that called a specific name? Kinda looks like a hologram if I had to guess.
Thank you. Appreciate it. I believe it is a type of hologram, but not sure exactly which one. It does stand out because of the color difference.
Nice looking tank future goals for me, How many gallons is your tank?
Thank you. This is a 100 gallon tank. You can definitely get there. As long as you learn from all complications, research, research and do more research. Aside from that reefing can be expensive but one coral at a time will soon fill a tank.
@@DOTReef I have a 40 gallon breeder at the moment with 6 Fish and a lot of dry rock it's been running for 2 months now
@@Marvel_vs_Capcom84 nice. As long as you don't have ammonia and nitrites, you should be fine to start adding corals. Just make sure you get into the habit of testing for dkh, calcium, and magnesium. Once you get those tests down you should be good to go for lots of the nice corals. But like I said before, research lots on corals before buying. If you ever need help with guidance I would be happy to help.
@@DOTReef Thanks, I will be honest and say I never test my water I usually let the fish be a guidance of letting me know if something is off in my tank , I am also dosing stability and quick start for when I add anything new to the tank or small water changes every two weeks or so , I know I should get in the habit of testing for my own good , I'll get my water tested at the local fish store as needed, How many fish would you recommend for a 40 gallon breeder? The biggest fish in my tank is a 4 inch coral beauty and a 3 inch Nemo clown fish , I will name the fish I have currently and the fish I want to add which is no more then 2 or 3 because I know overstocking/ bioload equals disaster 1. Coral beauty 2. Nemo clown fish 3. Midas blenny 4. Blue and yellow demsel 3inch 5. Dragonett 6. Blood red shrimp Fish I would wanna add 1. Flame Angel 2. Fairy wrasse 3. Fire fish Basically fish that won't outgrow a 40 gallon breeder, I spent a lot of money on equipment for it , I run two hang on back filters rated for 75 gallons and two wave makers , Fish feeder and plenty of dry rock
I will keep it under 1/2" of full grow fish per gallon. If you add more fish just try not to add too many at once as you can create more bioload than the tank can keep under control. Slow and steady is always a good way to go
Nice looking tanks bro!
Thank you. Sometimes I want more color variety. But overall I think it's a good looking tank myself. Thanks for your comment appreciate it.
Where do you live if you dont mind me asking? Your tap water in your area must be good
@alexortega9645 currently in Los Angeles. But to be honest I have never tested water other than for dkh. DKH from my tap is at 7.2
@@DOTReef i live in Hawthorne! And i have a tap water FOWLR tank
@@alexortega9645nice, we're pretty close to eat other I live in the city of Huntington Park. If you choose to add corals to your tank just pls treat with "Safe" that or prime. I prefer Safe. You can definitely have a decent tank with tap water if you have the right information. If you ever get into adding corals I'm here for any guidance. Thanks for checking out my videos. Pls like, comment and share to help others that want to get into the hobby. Thanks for stopping by.
How come all frozen foods have like little things in them that look like tiny warms ? Is that normal ?
Hello @coral-reef. Frozen foods are all made of fishes natural diet in the wild. Brine shrimp, my sis shrimp, copepods, rotifers ECT.
How often do you feed your fish ?
Hello again, I have an automatic fish feeder that feeds the reef aquarium 4 times a day, along with a full sheet of nori seaweed, frozen is fed 4 times a week also.
yeah but my tap is over 300 TDS and others is 25TDS so if your Tap is cleaner then you can do this.
I never checked TDS for my tap water. Will need to buy a TDS meter to check where mine sits.
Love it! Comenting for the algorithm 🌻
Thanks for the support. Appreciate it. Helps me to continue making more videos and shorts if people are interested.
You must have good water. I wish I could use tap water for my corals 😂😂
Never tested my tap water. But who knows yours might be better than mine. I took a chance, started adding corals slowly and saw good results.
@@DOTReef no my tds in my water is over 100. Not good for corals. I'm surprised your not getting algae as well
I have some crabs and snails for that. And this tank is only 3 months old. I should have crazy algae but I don't have that. Just regular turf algae on rocks. Good food for my snails and crabs. I bet if I test my tds it should be around that number also. I do run a refugium so that helps.
I’m getting ready to do my tap reed tank also . What is the best way to mix salt with this setup I have my tank going and water condition already. Just mix salt while pump is running?
I would personally mix in a 5 or 10 gallon bucket with a cheap pump you can get anywhere even offer up used. Once mixed throw into the tank. I suppose if you don't have anything in your current tank you can get away with having good flow to mix it up. In that case wait for water to be clear and test salinity with a refractometer. Or what ever you got I used the cheap floating ones when I first started. You have to let the tank cycle so your salt mix will definitely be dissolved before adding anything into your tank. Best of luck. On your saltwater journey.
Make sure you treat your tap water with Safe preferably, you can use prime, but I have had better results using Safe powder.
Looks good!
Thank you
As power costs increase I wonder how expensive it will be to run uv lights or is it efficient?
I do not run a UV sterilizer.
That’s the cheapest part of the hobby
I’ve never heard of those blocks, thanks for that! Ima try them out. I also wanted to ask if you know what your tap water test at ph, gh, kh, po3, ammonia, no2, and no3. If any of the last 3 even show up. Think I missed how hold the tank was but curious about that as well. Beautiful tank!
Sorry never tested any of those levels of my tap water to be honest. I do live in Los Angeles although not sure if it matters. This 100 gallon tank is 3 months old . I started with that smaller one towards the end of the video. That one is 2 years old. I learned lots in those years and am confident everything I did on that 20 gallon reef works perfectly fine for me.
Rad alveopora and it's awesome seeing the sponges
Thank you. Wasn't doing so well so started adding sponge power. Doing better now
Do the fish ever bother your clam
Yes, looks like they have stopped for now.
Looks beautiful love the variety
Tank you. Appreciate it
What’s light or lights do you use?

How high are your phosphates?
will need to test but don't normally test. I will test and get back to you.
look to hear @@DOTReef
I tested phosphate today 3 hrs after feeding, phosphate sit at 0.25 ppm
Nitrates are 15ppm 3 hrs after feeding as well .
@@DOTReef do you run a skimmer?
