Trimming for 37's on a RAM 2500 Power Wagon
Просмотров 27 тыс.2 года назад
There will be a little rubbing with 37 inch tires, so you need to do a little trimming, especially if you want to take it off road. Here is a how to video of how to trim the pinch seam, and inner liner with a small filler plate to make things clean, tidy and professional. I've also added some RokBokz mudflaps to keep things street legal.
Jeep Longarm Coil Over Suspension Travel

Rear suspension travel on a 2000 TJ, stretched 7 inches, 14" 2.0 Fox coil overs. Watch the pinion... it doesn't dive towards the end of the travel, it actually points up a few degrees, hopefully helping alleviate rear drive shaft bind. About 80% Antisquat at ride height, with 7 inches up and 7 inches down.

PowerWagon on Broken Arrow Trail Sedona
Просмотров 7 тыс.2 года назад
A short video of my 2022 RAM Power Wagon conquering Broken Arrow Trail in Sedona Arizona. With the trail_wagon being only hours hold, I decided to break it in on one of my favorite local trails. So I headed out to Broken Arrow to put it through its paces! The truck is stock other than AEV wheels and 37" Nitto tires. What a beast
You can do this OR build a shed in the backyard.
What was the Willy’s jt wheel and lift setup?
Any issues with cutting the spot welds off?
Thanks for this video. I have a 2024 PW in white. Did you have any rubbing on the 37” tires? I have 35” Toyo AT3. I would like to try my PW in Moab.
Watch your passanger side......k
Mind sharing your hub center to fender measurements front and rear? Looking to compare factoey suspension heights of your PW, and my 19' PW.
Nice video. Can 37's be mounted on stock rims?
Are the tires 13.5 ?
I went with the 12.5"
As an alternative, if you use Method 704HD 17x9 +18mm offset wheels (5.75" backspacing) with a slightly smaller 37" tire (Toyo Open Country RT Trail 37x12.50r17), you really don't need to trim anything to clear with no rubbing. For additional clearance while offroading, I did remove the lower trim piece right behind the front wheels and drilled a couple of holes on the bottom lip of the inner fender liner and pulled it back with some zip ties. For a view of that change, see the related video on my channel.
Is that a similar setup to an AEV Salta or Katla w/ KO2s? (36.5" actual height)
@@mammothwagon Yes. Similar backspacing. The loaded tire height is approx 35.5”.
Very nice! Makes all the difference with the right tools and craftsmanship!
Thanks!
Where did you get your frame horns? I need one for my 48 2A.
Have the same truck and was going to run 35s so I didn’t have to buy new wheels with an offset and have to trim things. I like the look of 37s but am also concerned about the ball joints and other components wearing out faster. What are you doing to save those components?
Bigger tires will wear out suspension and brakes faster. I'll replace as needed
Why not melt the plastic and form it
Just finished it in my stock ‘19 power wagon (with 35s) yesterday. Wasn’t sure if it could do it, but I found myself in Moab and decided to have a go. Other than one scary climb at the end it handled everything like a tank. Absolute unit of a truck
Nice!
Did you complete the entire trail? Im curious because I've done it a few times it a few times in my Land Cruiser and surprised you only scraped once.
This is baby sh## you’re doing, any truck could tackle that in one wheel drive. My wife’s Prius could do that
Lol
Ok, tough guy. You've impressed everybody. And by everybody, I mean nobody 😂
@@jkeithv65 lol got your little feelings hurt
Nice job!
Thanks!
Good music,good job
👍
Off topic but what steps are those?
Which version of the Katla are you running - 17x9 or 17x10?
17x9
I’ve never seen any (in these videos diy videos) trim the pinch welds beyond the spot welds like you did. I’m sure you would have addressed it if it was a problem, but is there any need for re welding or, JB welding, or sealing in some way?
I run 35’s, but I thought the point of the AEV wheels is that 37” tires fit without rubbing?
Not all 37s are the same size. The nittos barely rubbed. I've heard BFGs don't rub at all
Falken Wildpeaks are probably the best 37" inch tire to use if you wanna stay with factory lift. They're slightly shorter than most 37s
Nice vid, appreciate the effort involved in getting close-ups of your work. I really hate being "that guy" but the cutoff wheel touching your left glove at 4:00 is cringe. And while pausing to note the time stamp I see your right forefinger blind behind the plastic in the path of the cut off wheel. I really like the tiny Dremel cut off wheels for tight spaces like this. Offered in sincere regard for your fingers on future projects.
I usually have the guard on, but it wouldn't fit! Thanks for your concern about my fingers though.
Damn 37’s on stock lift? Or nah?
Stock suspension
@@kmas0n2390 gonna have to do this to mine now too. Same color! Cheers
Get it!!!
Great video! Love the drone shots from above, well done. I have a 2017 Power Wagon, love these trucks :)
Quick Bond and Pro Seal that shit!
Champ amazing 👏 video 📹 now I'm more happy to be the owner of PWagon 💪😎🤙
Are you running bilstein shocks?
Correct, these are the factory Bilstein shocks
@@kmas0n2390 what’s your opinion on them? Are they good? Give me a honest review
@@carlosh6497 they are great for offroading. Ran 7 days of moab and Jon bull in big bear on the factory bilstiens. Of course with aftermarket you can tune them to your driving style and get better comfort
@@carlosh6497 I did not care for the stock Bilsteins on the Power Wagon. I think it's mostly just that I don't like a digressively valved shock. I spent the money for the Kings from Carli, and was well worth it imo. For reference, my other ride is a Jeep with long arms, air bumps, and perfectly tuned suspension setup(I like a nice soft ride), so I'm very likely biased and was not a big truck guy before the Power Wagon.
How do you correct the speedometer? I was told that the shift points will be different too.
I used the tazer from z automotive. Aev makes something similar too
On my 2022 power wagon I'm running BFG KM3's On stock rims with 0 rubbing. And yes I have put it through its paces. BFG tires always run a little small these are technically 36.5 that is why I get away with it. I've run them for 8000 miles 0 rubbing through some really narly Logging roads in northern BC in the rocky mountains. I knew going into it that these these tires always run a little small that's why I went with them so I didn't have to do any trimming plus the new KM3's Are an amazing tire.
Thanks for the info on the BFG's KM3's Danny. I have a 2021 RAM 2500 that I'm going to level with a BDS kit or do a 4" BDS lift, I will decide when I see how much funds the cash department has in it come that time. I have always loved the BFG's on previous vehicles however I have not experienced TOYO or NITTO.
Do you have any pictures?
I have lots of pictures, On road and off road, I have posted pictures of the wagon on and off road in the reply 3 times. I look it's there and then it disappears. Not sure how else to post photos on here. There are photos of it on the ram form and I tried to post a link to it.
@@navymark101 anything over 3" and alot has to change, might want to consider a carli or thuren upgrade. Currently running a 2" front and rear
Got lucky with my Wildpeak 37's no rub back when I had factory suspension
what type of the rock slider is it?
Those are just steps from N-Fab. I'm bumped them a few times and they have taken light hits, but they wouldn't take a hard hit.
Awesome footage, editing and of course.. awesome PW! love the wheels and big ol 37's! DId you notice a big difference in performance switching from the stock wheels and tires?
I put the 37s on pretty much right after I bought it, so I never experienced the performance with factory sized tires. But I'm still really happy with the performance on 37s. The 8 speed transmission does a great job
Are those RokBokz the original or the XL size? Find they help much? I have gravel as part of my drive to town and have had a few pieces oddly come up and hit the body and door handle of all places. I'm also on 37s and AEV wheels on a 2022 PW
These are the original. Rocks do still occasionally come up, but i would say it's been reduced by 90%
Great vid
Thank you!
Cool vid mqn
Great tutorial! Now, what's you plan for the 37" spare? I'm thinking AEV's vertical tire mount for my PW.
For now, a tire repiar kit, on board air, and a 35 under the bed. I will have to put the 35' spare on the front because the rear has a Posi. Its not ideal, but it will work. I need the bed for other stuff.
@@kmas0n2390 I get it. The spare does eat up the bed space not to mention the all the costs involved with running them. 37"s have proved to be an expensive endeavor for me HA!
I had my 37" spare in the bed for the 1st 4 months It was a nightmare! Same as the other guy I finally fit a 35" Mickey Thompson Baja boss AT Underneath very tight yet it fit
@@dannycameo859 How did you have it mounted?
@@bradentokoly Laying flat with with trucker straps holding it.also a bakflip4. That's why mentioned nightmare! There was room for nato Gaskins gas cans on the one side it's still could be tied down to the passenger side Hooks. basically was flat down in the top left hand driver side corner, with a trucker strap running through to the other corner corner and through the nato cans. I towed An offroad trailer high clearance, With Max coupler hitch. Into back country in rocky mountains with the 37 in the back. And the bakflip4, There is almost no room back there all summer for gear. It took up half the bed easily. I'm much happier with the 35" underneath again.
Thanks for the how-to!
No problem. The most common question I get asked is do my 37's rub. Yes. But not any more
Very nice
How do you like the n fab Rock sliders? are you thinking about switching to white knuckle
@@Brayfrait The N Fab are not sliders, just steps. And they are really nice as steps. The look good, are sturdy, and make getting into the truck much easier. But they would not hold up to a hard hit. I'll eventually get around to fabricating something myself!
I’m on 35s, wanting to go 37s. You notice any issues for full turns or full flexing?
There is a little rubbing at the rear of the fender well when turning. It could be easily trimmed.
Trim it, won't hurt anything.
These type of videos are always fun to watch.
Seriously, I can watch this kind of thing for hours! This is probably only 15 mph... at highway speeds its absolutely fascinating what the suspension does, even on what we consider a smooth road.
@@kmas0n2390 Can't wait to get my Power Wagon put a deposit on one back in July. Been thinking about what I will want to do first as a mod already.
@@ecocav0222 It took about 3-4 months for mine to show up. This is my favorite vehicle i've ever owned. I hope you love yours!
Great video. Thanks.
I have my 22 PW and just got it on 35's. Carli suspension will be on in Sept. Nice to see there are plenty of trails that the big truck can go have fun on. Still have my Jeep though. Great video
I have a stock 2022 PW with AEV wheels / 37” General Grabber X3s. I’m having some rubbing issues on front driver side. I’d love to see a detailed video of your setup (radius arms, etc.). Great video… keep em coming!
My suspension is completely stock, AEV wheels, 37 Nitto's. There is light rubbing on the plastic on both sides, but the tires clear anything important. Once day I'll trim the plastic liner, but other than a little noise, its harmless.
@@kmas0n2390 I'm considering hitting mine with a heat gun then pressing on it with a mould (IE something solid like a ball) and seeing if that will push the plastic back a bit without having to cut into anything. I'm only rubbing by little bit as well. Good to hear it's not just my setup. I'll update once I try the heat gun and let you know if it was a success or a butchering. What radius arms did you swap over to and did it give you significantly more stretch / articulation?
@@bradentokoly I've done that for wranglers. it works great!
Champ how do you like the X3 tires I want to upgrade to those but in a 35"?
@@arturortuno80 👍🏻 So far, I love them. They ride great for mud tires. Great looking tires as well. Haven’t had them long enough to give a long term report.
We were just there in June. Wasn't sure about Fins and Things in my Power Wagon, but it looks like this will be a must for me next time I am out there. Nice video.
I did it with my 2020 on 35s last March. Lots of fun.
I didn't scrape my front or back. Biffed my White Knuckes once. Only because I wasn't paying attention. I don't remember ever using my front lockers. Rear only.
Hey Chris, that was a great video. Same truck on 35", I'll be there in September. I wasn't planning on it but the trail looks doable on 35"? We're coming from South Carolina and towing a trailer, just nervous I'm going to hurt something and f*** up my trip...thoughts?
I think you will be fine, the power wagon cruiser through the trail pretty easy. You will probably scrape the front and rear bumper a bit more than I did with 35's
Great vid! It’s funny how you search for PW videos and the same ones pop up all the time, but then a gem like this randomly shows up in the for you feed. Like where was this when I searched?
Thank you so much for the kind words!
Awesome video, I enjoy my Power Wagon as well. I like the rock sliders, how do they hold up? Also where did you find them? Looking forward to more videos!
Those are actually steps from N-Fab. The drop down steps themselves are easily removable, so I take them off when going off road. The remaining bar looks like a rock slider, but the mounts would crumple like tissue paper if they actually got used. I'm planning on eventually making my own real sliders, and adapting the bolt on steps for convenience.
