Good old railway inflation! R*******k's 2000 project cost was £36m. Compare this to BR's 1985 project to electrify and resignal all the way from Colchester to Harwich and Norwich for £63m. One of Carillion's signs for Proof House was still standing until recently. Not sure if it was left as a memorial to the project or to Carillion.

I have never scene that type of music player. Looks like a one of those hard floppy discs that used to be used for computers before 2002.

Lucy Kite started as a Central News 'weather girl' and after a couple of years was assistant anchor to Bob Warman..quite an standing fixture for the Midlands television News ..Lucy worked with Bob in Nottingham....home of the t.v studios of an 'ill' conceived go at bringing 'Crossroads' back...the 'stars' lived in villages close to Nottingham like Bingham and Radcliffe-on Trent. The Wedding in Crossroads was filmed at Bingham Church, and the bride and groom inside the leaving car 'stopped' going on a narrow country road very close to a place called Whatton Manor Stud, owned by the 'Players cigarettes family, where there are racehorses.

Thanks for posting this. I always remember that Peter Plisner was a quality journalist when it came to the reporting of railways. You always knew that what you heard from him was highly accurate whilst you could always pick holes with other journalists railway reporting.

Sorry about the cut off at the end of the programme, I think my mum must have recorded something else over the very end of this. I think there are only a minute or two missing.

Yes. The job got jobbed and a lot cheaper. We were just allowed to get on instead of wasting half a shift being told how to suck eggs. At great expense in time and money!

09:00 An idiot manager who instructs another idiot with cable croppers is a dangerous mix. There are rules within many if not all of the UK's electricity operators to reduce the risk of cutting live services which include simple things like identifying service cables "BEFORE" cutting. Cable spiking on service cables will tell you after the event whether the cable is/was live. You never cut a cable you cannot identify end to end.
