Wedding - St George's Church, Shirley - 1960's
What an amazing time to be starting out on married life. I hope they had a long and successful marriage. ❤
Lovely video, beautiful bride. Everyone just dressed up in their Sunday best, no designer gear or tailor made suits. Everyone relaxed and happy. I bet the ‘buffet’ was in the function room at the local pub, or the caterers lounge….nothing flashy. Happy days! 🥂
This reminded me so much of my own wedding in 1964, and those of my friends. Really enjoyed it!
brings back memories of family weeddings back in the 60s , that looked just like this
The bride looked beautiful and the bridesmaids did as well.
❤
How lovely!🥰
This breaks my heart.............so beautiful. What has happened to all of us today?
Beautiful Dress beautiful bride & groom ..
thankyou
Bride was stunning , no fakery then ,,
thankyou for commenting. Quite true.
Very nice wedding love watching but what is up with those hats on the brides maids??
It was the style at that time.
Thankyou for commenting. Would you like a hat like that?
They were called juliet caps.very popular Inn the 70's for brides and bridesmaids
The 29th Croydon, Shirley Parish Hall, was in cubs and scouts late 60's, early 70's, what memories the vid brings back.
I'm glad you enjoyed. A long time ago now.
thanks for uploading this...the second is my father's and his friend Ray
I expect it was a bit of a shock to see after nearly 50 years!
Mr Macaulay I hope you and you and your wife have had a happy life together and have a life time of wonderful memories Thankyou for sharing.
thankyou
I literally just learnt this song in school what are coincidence 😂
A school favourite.
This captures the start so many of the changes we have experienced in the last half century. Thankyou for your comments. I am so pleased you have enjoyed watching.
Thankyou for your comments. By accident, this is also a documentary on life and values in the suburbs.
What is all this crap about?
Why is it crap? Its someone's wedding day
Ah well, I wasn't sure what to say, but you did. Thanks.
Are you his brother?
The happy faces of people before the scourge of the internet
Hmm, true, but used wisely the internet can bring us benefit. It all depends on those using it..... etc......
Her dress is beautiful.
I'm no fashion expert but I understand from those who are that it is quite the thing.
I got married in 1976 Simple, naive times This is so funny. The way the women are in charge, brushing off suits, generally interfering with everything though the real boss is the photographer. The photographer ruled the day now everyone has a mobile phone in their faces. Weddings now have bouncy castles, trips abroad, light shows, swimming pools, dressed-up dogs, pole dancers basically an expensive freak show
Thankyou for your comments.
wow margaret was so beautiful. film star looks.
When England was proud and beautiful, lovely wedding.
Thankyou. From a different time, that is for sure.
My wedding in 1998 looked very similar to this one, I should post it! Too many brides today look too bare for church, in strapless and backless gowns. It’s supposed to be a holy day, not a sexy day. But many brides today also still get it right, and look lovely.
Different expectations I think.
Agree @ anglophils645 ..
beautiful
I am glad you liked it.
Andrew, are these people your parents?
Hello - no just neighbours. I enjoyed photography from an early age.
Andrew the start is a little confusing. Is this their first baby or first grandchild? Just wondering 😊
Ah yes, I see what you mean. The first section is the consequence of an earlier wedding so to speak to be found here: ruclips.net/video/v_99CWYI5VA/видео.html
I love the dresses but what I would really want is the car that brought the bride to the church
I doubt there are any roadworthy these days. You will just have to dream ......
They would be in their 80s of they were still alive.
Thankyou for your contribution.
Thank you Andrew, I'm the little boy at the beginning looking into the camera.
Thanks for your interest. I expect that was a bit of a surprise. Best wishes.
It certainly was, god bless @@Andrew.J.Macaulay
Hi ! I am writing to you from Grand Angle Productions, a production company based in France who is presently producing a documentary on the nullity of the marriage. The film will be aired on KTO, the French Catholic channel. It will aim at informing about is the nullity of a marriage. For this documentary I’m looking for old wedding footages. These wedding pictures would allow us to illustrate the words of an ecclesiastical judge who will speak to us about the history of marriage in the Bible, the sacrament of marriage in the church, the meaning of the exchange of consents, the pillars of marriage and how a marriage can be invalid. The images we will use will not be used to say that the marriage of these people is invalid, they will only allow us to illustrate the above-mentioned statements as well as to see the different stages of a marriage such as the arrival of the bride at the church as well as the exit of the couple in front of the church. Moreover, our documentary does not speak about the end of a marriage but about the fact that a marriage can be considered null and void if the spouses did not respect the conditions of formation of the marriage. This part of the documentary will be illustrated by testimonies of people who experienced the nullity of their marriage So, I am contacting you to ask for permission to use it. If you cannot grant it, would you kindly let me know who I should contact to grant such an authorization?
Hello. Yes that is OK. I sent you an email from macaulay@mentalhealthtv.co.uk
Absolutely beautiful poignant of days gone by. Where is St George's Church assume UK but where? The music is brilliant and just adds to the beauty of the wedding
Hello, thanks for your interest and comments. The church is in Shirley, near Croydon, UK
we still have those blazers now! 0:59
Gosh .... Time for life to move on a bit surely?
may i ask how you got all these school videos>
Home movies - early efforts by me.
My gosh is that Wing Commander Ellerton at 4:23? I was lucky enough to frequent parascending at Seaford in 75/76 and we had moved to Thorney Island (plenty of space and no trees) I can see from the mishaps in the video why they had discontinued parascending in the school grounds, massive as they were. Since Seaford, I took up gliding and now back under a wing with Paramotoring (almost like old days!)
Yes, you are right. All seems a long time ago.
I was lived in shirley for 10 years, I know some of the people in video, have you got any more you can show us ,
Thankyou for your interest but I regret to say I have no more footage, have you looked at the St Johns School and Cubs and Scouts uploads?
Sorry that is all I've got.
What beautiful footage.. lovely bride and bridesmaids . Today’s weddings cost a fortune but pale in comparison to these lovely, simple ones. The Wedding gowns now are more than the lovely weddings from this era! Everything now is a ‘Theme’ - all focused on who can come up with something ‘Different’ ! It’s so sad that many of them don’t even last beyond a couple of years.
Thankyou for your comments. I think it does capture the feel of the 1960's. Home movies are remarkably evocative, and the older they are the more precious they become to those involved.
@@Andrew.J.Macaulay I Totally Agree!
@@susanbrogan2517 Actually C of E in Shirley
Even the flowers were prettier than what i see today
Today they re more like staged shows
Them bridesmaids dresses are pretty
So true.
Hi - I'm glad you enjoyed. Thankyou for commenting.
This is amazing, i was at Shirley Oaks at that time, i was only 19 months old though and stayed there just over a year!
Thankyou for your interest - I hope you enjoyed the film.
I went the next year 1963. We were spared canvas and stayed in the Youth Hostel. I do remember the cooking facilities at the camp though.
It was quite an adventure back then ...
Mr Cookson & Julie Maddocks
Thankyou for the names.
hello, are you a ex- st johns school boy?
@@shimimagsingh3221 hi Jeffery, both my brother and I
I dont know how I came across this but glad I did a real trip down memory lane as for the kids amazing the little lad typical boy and the older girl like a little mum real heart warming of days gone by
Movies can capture the action. I'm glad you enjoyed the trip. ... More than half a century has passed since then.
Lovely 😊
Glad you enjoyed it.
Wow I was there when Marksman Lager sponsored the Championships 82 ish :)
Hmm, maybe it was 82...... thanks.
I still think those weddings were much prettier. Loved the lacy dresses and the big veils with sweet little headpieces to hold them onto your head. Weddings are not even interesting these days.
Clearly different times, that is for sure.
@@Andrew.J.Macaulay I agree it's only like folk in 30 odd years time saying the same of weddings of today
I remember doing this play as a Y6 in 2003. Thank you for sharing these clips.
Glad you enjoyed.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Wow I remember singing this in 1996 at Seely Juniors In Nottingham! Many thanks for uploading :)
Yes, I think this is a fun piece for schools. Very adaptable.
Walter Neumarks bloody inflatable sausages, remember blowing those up, "Top, Two!", long grass, constant changes of launch point when the wind changes - Heaven.. Thanks for posting this series Andrew - I am officially very old!! Cheers Bill
Well, I too am officially old......... glad you enjoyed.
Yes, I feel very old ... it does seem a different life to me.
