Hi! I am Shivangi. I have been an aspiring international student. I finished my Master of Public Policy and Global Affairs from the University of British Columbia. I bagged an entrance scholarship and had two amazing years at UBC. :) Post my UBC journey, I emerged as an aspiring Policy Analyst who is passionate about climate justice, public health, and social impact. Hello! I'm starting at UBC in Fall this year, and my budget seems to align with yours. However, when would you suggest would be the ideal time to reach Vancouver to secure the lease? For example, if I shortlist something in June, would the person be willing to hold the space till August, when I'm landing? And how many spots would you recommend shortlisting for an in-person visit?

Hi, Your expenses depend on the type of accommodation you are living in and so on. I can give you a breakdown how much it costs me to live in Vancouver monthly - $800 CAD for rent (renting a single room in a 2 bedroom one washroom basement), $60 for phone, $100 for transit, $150 to eat out (weekends), $200-250 food you cook at home. You also have to account for any additional expenses like cabs, msp and so on. Hope this helps!

Hi! I do remember crossing Pitt Meadows when I visited Mission. I guess is you might find indian food as there is a big gurdwara around that area as well which indicates Indian community living around! I'll recommend to get in touch with someone living in Pitt Meadows.

There are a lot of Sri Lankan students who are doing Bachelors and Masters in CS at the University of Toronto and University of British Columbia. I did my Masters in CS at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Sri Lankan High school GCE(A/L) is highly recognized in the UK, USA and Canada.
This is the most informative video for students wanting to live around UBC. Keep it up. I have added you on LinkedIn :) The sad part though is that I watched 7-8 odd videos before reaching to this one. It's is funny how the analytics function at RUclips, they'd make you watch more prior to getting to the actual content 😀

What about Ghee? We use Ghee almost everyday. But I see that it's very expensive
Ghee is referred to as Clarified Butter here. Yes it's a little pricey but carrying ghee in your suitcase from India can be a little messy if it leaks. So I would recommend to buy some once you are here.
