Retirement project, priority to reduce costs, make the living area comfortable and stabilize the deterioration of the structures.
1/ Solar 2 projects complete 10kw/30kw battery off grid 15kw gird tied. 25kw gen pending install and 5kw pumped storage.
2/ 200k btu combined wood gasification / oil boiler
3/ Clean up the LCC stating with the upper floor - open plan with one bathroom and elevator to lower which will later have 4 beds 2 bath. Clean up all ares from the silo blast doors back to the entrance. Install its own solar/battery system.
4/ Clear some of the land and dig pond in south corner and maybe a small earth covered container home.
5/ Bury 2 containers to make a tunnel hut to blast door
How we got here, was looking for a "retirement project" in 2016 and that was to be the "lake house" until daughter suggested a missile base. So that started the project to identify all the Atlas E, F, Nike and Titan 2 check out location - short list - ID owners etc. 2018 purchased the place.

So after messing up the "one" video of level 4-8 on 12/31/2024 and a 5 days for my knee to recover, down I went again while the boss is out of town. I am surprised at how dry it is and how slow the water seeps back in given how close we are to the lake. 4" per day at that depth but that may be less if the cone of depression forms. Note pump rate was 20kUSG/day = 15" #missilesilo, #icbm, #bunker

Solar and general progress update - Now 25Kw with 10Kw off grid and 15Kw grid tied. Seeing as I need to have excess electric to pump the silo I was forced to move to a hybrid system as there is little point in paying the monthly CBC costs to then pull that electric back to pump. Once I know how quick the water rises in the silo I can balance to on/off grid capacity to match the needs of the hou...

I was hoping I could use the fill and vent shaft to get the 240 volt pump in, but for now I will have to run it up the stairs then move it to the escape shaft once I cut the welds off later this month. Still not got that focus sorted out, by the time I checked it was bad I was too tired to go back down. Walking up and down those steps a few times is about the limit my knees can take. Getting ol...

Atlas F LCC Lower Level now accessible. As part of the permit requirements I need keep records of the GPD pumped and also for interest I record the water level each day too. So that had been less each day for the past week and last night I realized that that is probably due to the water dropping in the silo access tunnel. A 2 hour trip downstairs added lights to the Lower LCC and cut some more ...

Had to replace lights string as condensation was causing corrosion of the lamp caps due to no water tight seals on the lamp holders. Surprised that the escape hatch is welded closed and not just a couple of inches but all around. Pumping proceeding 20k GPD is about 8 to 9.5 inches per day so expect to be in the LCC lower in 2-3 weeks. #missilesilo, #icbm, #bunker

For Tony, the previous owner who wanted to pump out the silo 22 years ago. After testing the new filters over the winter I was surprised on how well they work. Reduced the "phenols" to undetectable at 14 GPM and also undetectable at 2x nominal flow. So no need to reduce the discharge rate as I was expecting. The plan is pump at the daily limit of 20k GPD at much as I can. Interested to see how ...

These old fluoro tubes may be interesting to some lighting enthusiasts._
I will have a closer look at them and see I can reuse them with LED tubes on the upper LCC which will be the living area. But in any case they will be keep as I test to hoard stuff for latter
How did you pump the place out? It was full of water almost to the surface when I was a kid.

It looks like your collimator room might be intact on that level, I wonder if you still have a collimator in place for the missile inertail guidance system? I have never seen any post-operational images from that room as they are usually inaccessible, or dangerous to access. Thanks for sharing further videos its great to see the pumping going well.
Next time I go down I will check that out
@@noddysyacht that would be very cool to see. Thanks!
Very cool to see the bottom. I guess yours is the only Plattburgh Atlas F silo where level 8 is not flooded? It will be interesting to see how quickly it re-fills. Thanks for sharing the latest videos of your progress with the pumping.
Lewis is dry clean and being used
4" per day at that depth but that may be less if the cone of depression forms. Note pump rate was 20kUSG/day = 15"
@@noddysyacht looks like there is only about another 20ft to the very bottom. Its really not worth the hassle pumping all the way to the bottom. I visited a couple of the natuarally dry sites in NM and the bottom of the silo is just full of rubbish the salvage crews chucked down there. The crib works looks to be in great condition too. Do you know when the site was salvaged? I know Lewis still had the Atlas launcher in it in the mid 80s.
He's only bloody gone and done it! Pumped it out! Well done mate fantastic work and thanks for the video's, are you going to swing the pump about to get a bit more water out from the sump area?
The last 10 feet with its junk and mush will have to remain untouched as it will block up the filter system in minutes. If there was ever a need to clear down there all that mush would have to go in settling tanks, a project outside of my time limitations
Cheers for the update from Sussex England 👍🏻
The sheer scale of that thing is mind blowing! Thank you for sharing this journey - I am really enjoying the big reveal as the waters recede.
cant see me going the last 10 feet as there is zero return on the effort
I live a mile form the Titan Missile Museum outside of Tucson, AZ. It is so sad that no one thought to save one as a Museum. What is your plan for yours? Thanks for sharing.
Yes we have E as well but sadly no F's as for plans i will post them on the channel - about in a couple of days
0:17 - Don't blame ya! Fascinating, thanks for sharing.
No your limits, right!
Boy howdy you've pumped a lot of water out of that sucker
2.6 mil USG
Truly an engineering marvel
Happy New Year and good health to you from Devon, England, thanks for the update!
Same to you, I finally left the UK December 2023 to retire here but the cold takes getting used too.
So cool that it seems still pretty solid structure down there
You would think it would have all turned to mush but the steel work is surprising solid. Its a shame that no one had the sense to keep just one of the Fs as a museum They do had a E and a titan2
@noddysyacht for sure, I'd guess being military spec stuff it was made to last a while!! In any condition, have not seen anything the E silo museum. There anything on RUclips to check it out? Seen all kinds of stuff for the titan 2! Wish I could buy and dig in on one!!
www.weld.gov/Government/Departments/Facilities/Missile-Site-Park the last F sale was Au Sable Forks 2018 $30k which was the one we came to look at but ended up with willsboro. the titan2 are the ones to dig up which I was also considering during the 2 year research task
@@noddysyacht they dont do interior tours of the E site for the public anymore sadly, but I think the topside is still an RV park. Both were closed when I went over there in 2023. I wish there was one to visit as I would love to see inside and E site.
there is Edd's place I went there 2018 while doing the silo research and he gave me a tour, don't know if sold www.missilebases.com/
Happy New Year and thank you for the update.
Same to you, sounds like a but pleased to get to Level 8
Happy new year, keep up the good work
Same to you, and work as long we can
You should turn the lowest level into a heated pool.
Really cool! Need any help?
may be, contact me via email on the channel
Super cool and intresting!
This is where the EG4 lineup would shine. Several of their inverters come with smart load management. From what I understand you can pull 50-80amps 240V on them.
IMO EG4 is a gen ahead of everyone else and are fairly affordable. They keep releasing more are more updated models continuously. Right now their 240v lineup in this order goes 6000xp, 12000xp, 12kpv, 18kpv. Then they’re releasing two somewhat similar versions of the 18kpv that loses some features but is more affordable and can handle more solar panels. Great pieces of equipment and I think some of them come with a 10 year warranty.
It's so cool to see the progress with the water level compared to when you let me have a look around this summer! Nice! 😁
great video - love the Stevie and Raymond inclusion!!
Yeh if the had eyes they could collect sticks! (not bricks)
This is the coolest discovery ever
Stay safe!! Harness, gas detector and no lone working preferably! :o
Trying to, Harness's with the kids at xmas. I think the ventilation blast doors are open as there is air movement in the access tunnel. No option on the alone working but I do tell the wife my ETA when I go down there so she know when to claim the insurance.
Looks like the project is coming along well! Amazing content.
Thanks for the update!
Hey there! Would you be interested in doing an interview about the silo?
Thanks for the offer but its not really my thing
I'm having gps problems with my pixel 7pro. Any solutions?
No, I did try opening a ticket with Google but after a few days I gave up. Went back to Apple as I need the GPS to work 100% no plans to ever move away from Iphone again.
AWSOME
So fascinating
Fantastic video thanks for the update, pleeeease be careful down there!
Jeez Steve take care xxx
Thanks for the update. Good luck with your continued works on the site. Hopefully the water ingress rate wont change when you reach 80ft.
Wow! About... 1/3 dry now?
Is there a way to stop by and see you? I am in that area regularly.
Yes, contact me at noddysyacht@gmail.com
So I heard from one of the other silo owners that the steel I-Beams under the Silo Cap Doors were used for closing them. The hydrolics were removed with the doors open and I-beams were placed across with wooden boards and large amounts of hay bales over them. The Doors were then pushed onto the hay by heavy equipment with the hay then lit on fire. As everything burned, the doors slowly closed into position with only the I-beams remaining under them. The I-beams were possibly bent from the extreme heat. Reply
wow WOW *WOW* , incredible!!! My cousin's family and I always go up to the Adirondacks every year for a weekend or so and this year just by chance we're doing an Airbnb in Willsboro. I was having a look around google maps and noticed an ICBM site literally across the street! After a bit sleuthing on here I was shocked to find this amazing record of the site's current rehabilitation! We're kind of into nuclear technology and history and it would be absolutely amazing for us to be able to see the site. Is there any possibility at all that we could stop by and have a quick peek around? Do you have an email address I could contact you at? There are only 5 of us total and we would of course be very respectful of your time and property if we had the chance to stop by. Thanks much for all the interesting video of the work you are doing at the site here!
Email is listed under the channel - about but here it is noddysyacht@gmail.com
Do you know if the escape tunnel/shaft still has the 3 tons of sand? Would be good to know if you ever decide to open it!
Sand is long gone, shaft is empty
Why was a shaft drilled into the tunnel?
7 monitoring/test wells were drilled years ago for water testing after the site was shutdown. I have found 6 of them and gave up on the 7th
This is absolutely amazing! I suspected the LCC and crib were still intact. This one is gonna be quite similar to Brainardsville! Great work!
Wow. I thought I took on crazy projects but you take first prize in that contest. I would LOVE to reclaim a silo, but my budget would never keep pace with my impatience to just get it done. I can't imagine the cost of buying, draining, gutting and restoring or reclaiming the space for new uses. Kudos to you and yes, I subscribed. :)
When I was looking round for a site in 2018, one Atlas F went for about $50k but and was totally gutted inside and no huts but LLC was ready for a 3 floor wood structure to be built out.
Keep it rusty, you’ll never be able to get back such a cool asthetic like that no matter how hard you try. Sure, turn one level into something livable but try and leave the rest. The atmosphere in there is just incredible and kinda sacred.
Living my dream my dude. Subbed.
It looks like we have much to learn about building things to last, like the Egyptians and Romans did.
Tyvec suit & respirator
Great video very interesting be great to see lower levels thanks for your time 👍🏻
What is the end goal? Giant man cave? Underground survival bunker? Indoor climbing wall? Sandblast and paint everything, then fill it up with water for a really cool scuba diving tank?
Awesome. So cool. Alot of work but wow
I have no idea what the context of this video is, but wow all that rust is both scary and amazing! Im always amazed at how us humans are able to create sich structures. All the effort taken to create it and the. Just throw it away. All of it is amazing
Great progress with draining the silo - considering the level of filtration you're applying to the water you bring out I think 15 inches a day is amazing. So fascinating to see how much of the infrastructure they left behind. I guess at the end of the day there probably wasn't much of a market for it on that scale. Thanks for sharing your journey on this project.
Oh my. Looks like a lot of work. I've seen other silo projects. For me, I would want to get the water out as soon as practical and start drying things out. The humidity must be awful in there. Not good for what's left of the metal either.
