In the 1950’s, A.P. Carter, along with his children Janette & Joe, and their mother Sara, signed onto the ACME record label, based out of Kentucky. They recorded close to 100 songs for the label from 1952 - 1956. This song was recorded during that time. This is one A.P. wrote “in honor of my mother, who is not here no more.”

After The Original Carter Family broke up for good, Maybelle took her three daughters on the road to become “Mother Maybelle & The Carter Sisters.” In 1948 the group joined WNOX out of Knoxville, Tennessee. Recorded in San Antonio, Texas for radio station XET in 1939. This is one my personal favorite songs by the Carters, and I prefer the altered opening lyrics in this version than the commercial recording.
