    My new 598 Engine from Blueprint Engines uses the Morel Hydraulic Lifters and it is annoyingly loud! Cold or warm it's just loud. My bearing clearance is .0025 and calls for 5w30 or 10w30. The only way it got a bit quiet was with 20w50 but my builder said it would void warranty if I use it. I removed it and went back to 10W30. I did the adjustment as recommended in your video went from 50, 60 or 70 with aluminum heads 3/8 threads did not make any difference. I have friends saying my engine sounds like crap just because of these lifters.

    Late in the game here. Watching this makes me think you would not need to use checker springs? Couldn't I follow these steps while using the installed springs on my heads and add .030 to .050 to the pushrod measurement. (for my hydraulic lifters)?

    • @arturozarate1752
      @arturozarate1752 22 дня назад

      There's a good chance you'll collapse the lifter completely, and that's further than 30 or 50 thou(unless it's a short travel lifter). Then you've blown past the proper point of geometry. Its best to do this with checker springs. However, Scott has an updated better way to check for geometry. Search for his channel and you'll find about a 5 minute video.

    If a person understands the oiling system on the shp block you realize that this plug is absolutely necessary especially for a street engine that sees a lot of low rpm and idling. The shp block has 2 oil supplies for the lifters...one on the left side and one on the right. The oil simply makes a circle around the lifter galley and around the distributor and meets up with the oil from the other lifter galley. Without this plug the back pressure applied to the oil only comes from the clearance of the lifter bores. In my opinion this is simply not enough back pressure. With this plug installed, the oil comes from both sides of the lifter galleys and dead heads when it hits this plug. This creates back pressure. This is what you want especially with hydraulic lifters at low rpms!!! A factory block has plugs at the front of the block on each lifter galley that creates this back pressure. Nothing is lacking lubrication in any shape or form with this plug installed. Have you ever tried priming this shp block without this plug? You will spin the drill for an hour and barely get a trickle of oil at the rockers on most applications. Put this plug in and just a few cranks on the drill you got oil spraying out on the rockers...just like priming a factory block. I wouldn't build another shp block for the street without this plug no matter what type of camshaft I would be running.

    I have watched dozens of these videos on push rod length. Every one of them shows a small block Chevy being used with stud mounted rockers which are the easiest to establish pushrod length. Not one video have I been able to find where a small block LA mopar with shaft mounted rockers being used. The process of establishing proper valve geometry and pushrod length is a bit different and more difficult than a Chevy. Shat mounted rockers require shims to raise the entire valve assembly to proper heigth which moves the rockers closer to the valve in order to obtain proper valve tip contact with rocker . This increases pushrod length plus adding the proper preload adds to the pushrod length as well. I guess not many racing shops are versed with mopar, therefore not having the expertise on how to build one.

      @StanleyBlack-xf3hv 2 месяца назад

      @straubtechnologies9011 be looking forward to watching the video when it becomes a available. Not many people enjoy the world of mopar due to their inability to build one. Having said that, the after market industry makes us mopar fans suffer when buying parts for mopar because the prices of parts are based on junkyard motors like Chevy. The variety of parts are not readily available for mopar as they are for Chevy and Ford. I will say though, if a die hard Chevy guy ever got behind the wheel of a car with a well built mopar, he push all that Chevy junk out of his shop and learn how to build some real power, lol, just saying.

    great information! The unanswered question is, you say you need to get the correct rocker arm first. Do you have a video on HOW to get the correct rocker arm? I'm assuming someone makes custom rocker arms? Currently building and AFR headed BBC engine, customer brought Harlon Sharp aluminum roller rockers and they are no where near being correct as you show. The rockers studs supplied by AFR appear they will much too short with a correct arm, but how to determine the correct arm is the mystery. Thoughts? Thanks!

    This video wouldnt exist if there wasnt issues with Morel lifters. I have a small block Mopar running Morel hyd roller lifters p/n-5321. I have used 3 different types of oils. 10w-30 centistoke @ 100' 14.8 , 10w-40 centistoke @ 100' 14.1, 5w-30 centistoke at 100' 9.8 . mineral, semi synth & full synth. In addition I have had my valve covers off more times than I can remember. Tried preloads (meaured at actual lifter plunger), of 10, 40, 60, 100 thou through to near 120 thou (virtually bottomed out). Currently running the full synthetic 5w-30 with 60 thou preload. About 7000 miles on the engine. This has given the best results but they clatter like hell. The only thing that has stopped me from throwing these things in the trash has been the fact that I need to remove the heads to get the lifters out. Oil pressure hot of around 35psi idle, 60 to 75 giving it a bit. Friend runs a stroked SBC in his Camaro with solid rollers and side by side mine sounds like a bunch of bolts rattling in a steel bucket. I specifically went hyd roller to avoid continuously checking lash and a quiet motor, I didnt get either. I can only assume its poor quality control because some guys have dodged the bullet and have no issues, but many have dud's.
