    The New Haven Railroad bought RS1 ,RS2, and RS3 ALCO models in large numbers. New Haven RR had few problems with the Alco engines because of good maintenance and not over powering them. Some RS models were rebuilt by Alco and NH RR shops to extend their service instead of buying new diesels. New Haven Railroad also bought RS11’s and the C425’s diesels.

    That knot of track in Iowa was what ultimately broke Rock Island. One of today's ironies is that the ex-RI line from Tucumcari, NM to Kansas City, MO -- the "Golden State" route -- that Rock let slip into decay, is now a Union Pacific-owned super-railroad with many crack intermodal trains. The Spine Line from KC to Des Moines, IA and St. Paul, MN is now the only surviving connection between these two points. The Rock had many good routes, but hauling grain from elevators over decayed branchlines was what sank the old company.

    Great video and very informative. The New Haven Railroad used the Army’s MRS-1 in the 1950’s because of severe hurricane damage and the need for good running diesels, especially over bad track conditions . Engineers stated these diesels ran great and without much trouble.

    If you look at Motive Power issue 153, from Australia, they have a very good article,(part1) about the big 636's. Mt Newman employed a total of 54 of these loco's. A.E. Goodwin were the initial supplier here, but when they went broke, Comeng took up the ALCo licence here. Goodwin built 33 units, Comeng the rest. The other mining companies in the Pilbara iron mines also bought a good number of these machines. The Mt. Newman fleet was the biggest single fleet of 636's anywhere on Earth.

    The MRS version was widely used in Australia. In New South Wales as the 45 class, and South Australia as the 700 class. They were built in Sydney by A.E. Goodwin and later Comeng. There are still a small number in active service. Also a number in preservation.

    Nice save, Peter. Good results on the vertical decent safety test as well! As far as that wiggly decoder goes I would try one of two things. Either put a small blob of solder on each pad and then file it flat till it's only a few thousandths thick, or cut out and fold up a couple small squares of aluminum foil and wedge them in between the contacts and the frame. I've probably got about a dozen locomotives or more that could really use a full disassembly and fine tuning.

    Interesting, thanks. Engine sound 11:07 is very high-revving & similar-sounding to Napier "Deltic". Compared to the "ying-ying" GM sound. The high-revving might have increased engine wear ?? And possibly maintenance access was more difficult/expensive (even for a given level of reliability) ? Compare this with Napier ruclips.net/video/ziuF02H2z6E/видео.html at 19[:]18 secs

    I remember the F-units running the New Haven line as I was a child growing up in Rye, NY. Our family would take the train to Grand Central. A lot of times it would be with the electrified "boxcar". But the locomotives were always more fun to see in action.

    I wish Kato would modify that mechanism to be a little more drop-in friendly. All it'd take is a tiny modification to those strips and the stock DC LED board. Nice job, Peter! Runs smooth like a new Kato should.

    Kato did NOT make that job easy. The more and more issues I have with the overall reliability of DCC and Sound I'm just more inclined to go back to DC. Although DCC control tends to be fairly good these days. Or at least you can't hear it skip, lol. 60% of the time it works every time! Great video, Peter!

    • @alcobufff
      @alcobufff 23 дня назад

      Hi Shane! To be fair, the fact that someone had made a bad attempted to install DCC before I got this unit as a non runner, bending the contact strips a little and wearing out the mounts for them in the process, did not help things. Also, this was the "old" version of the Kato P42, The new one has to extra guides to make sure the contact lines stay in place which would have stopped most of issues I had with the dcc install. Thinking about it, I should have seen if i could have just bought guides and put them in place. Thanks for watching!

    Great video, thank you for the history lesson of these beautiful beasts. We have two in service on the Conway Scenic RR in Conway New Hampshire. Boston and Maine livery. 4266/4268. They were recently refurbished and do seasonal scenic RR tours. I’ve always loved these locomotives and am sad to see that they were so short lived. They were truly ahead of their time if they had been given a fair chance to shine.

THE UP ALSO BOUGHT THEM,ALONGWITH THE CB&Q.,AND THE SANTA FE. SHE MAY NOT HAVE BEEN THE TOP SELLER, BUT SHE DID START THE TURBOCHARGER REVOLUTION FOR EMD. SHE WAS THE WORLD'S FIRST TURBOCHARGED EMD GEEP. SHE DID BECOME FAMOUS FOR BEING EMDS FIRST GEEO WITH A TURBOCHARGER! THEREFORE, SHE PROVED THE TURBOCHARGER CONCEPT, AND SHE PROVED THAT TURBOCHARGERS WOULD WORK JUST FINE! SHE TURNED OUT TO BE A VERY SUCCESSFUL LOCOMOTIVE. I HAVE TWO OF THEM IN MY MODEL COLLECTION. I PAINTED THEM BOTH FOR SP. TYCO MADE THEM IN HO SCALE MODELS . I WISH I COULD FIND MORE OF THEM. THEY ARE RARE MODELS. I NEED SOME MORE OF THEM.

So i biught a new cpu and a cpu cooler last night. Gonna install tomorrow when the mx6 paste arrives and see how it improves. My performance is pretty great in every game , i get 80 fps at 1080 p max sliders black ops 6. With my 4060ti 5800x 32gb. System. I gotta 5700x3d though. And a peerless assassin last night. Hopefully it atleast adds longevity or simething. Got the cpu on sale for $200. Ane can easily sell rhe 5800x for 100-120 bucks.
