How dare you talk smack about this wonderful movie.

Do you hate Bugs Bunny shorts because they are formulaic? Do you hate roller coasters because they are cliche? Seriously, you're looking for/at story flaws in an action film about a low-orbit supermax prison? I think you have missed the point. I think you are missing out.

A French kiss with Meg Ryan and Kevin Klein is a much better movie. Meg Ryan has much more fun in a French Kiss. Meg Ryan looked bored and pissed off in Kate and Leopold poor Hugh Jackmen, and the rest of the cast had to carry the movie

It’s Escape from New York, in space. I genuinely like this movie as a so bad it’s good absurdity fest.

musical numbers aren't pointless. great dancing, great music, great costumes, great sets. beautiful performers. but... pointless? I don't need to be told war sucks or love sucks or murder sucks or cancer sucks. Fred and Ginger dancing probably doesn't advance the plot nor did "Over the Rainbow."

They explain why they send in one guy. The weapons systems on the prison station were designed to repel approaching spacecraft. They had to slip Pearce's Snow in. Had they sent the military the station would have tracked incoming vehicles and taken them out. Did you PAY ATTENTION when you watched the movie or were you doing something else with the movie playing in the background? It's not on the level with Star Wars OT but it is an entertaining film and Guy Pearce did a great job with it. Also, the President's daughter was in the delegation to review the prison. But no one knew it. Another reason to slip Guy Pearce in rather than send in the Marines. If there were no hostages of value, the prison officials would simply wait the station out. No food. No one to maintain the systems like oxygen and eventually the station dies. So why send the Marines to retake a station they can easily sit back and let die on it's own? Must be someone they are rescuing.

I like the cinematography, color, costume, etc...I didn't care for the jumpy camera in the birth scene though. I "like" the cast but I don't care for the colorblind casting. If the story set in current time...I wouldn't care. Also, this is a very thick book. Dickens crafted a story based on himself and crafted unforgettable characters - the noble Ham, the lone lorn creature, Steerforth, etc...but Mr. Micawber was such a big part in David's life. The movie rushed through. Then David (as a young boy) goes to his Aunt Betsy for help. He wasn't grown. That's is rushing the story. So fore, the story feels rushed and there is literally no character development as well as characters appearing out of place at that time in England.

I rewatched this movie the other day and I agree with you on almost every point you made. With that being said, there's just something about Guy Pearce being a sarcastic A-hole that makes me enjoy the hell out of this movie. That and the insane scottish prisoner. Call it a guilty pleasure.

I just watched your Gettysburg and Batman reviews for the first time. And then about 6 others. Holy crap your reviews are good. Me, a retired army officer watching Gettysburg for 30 minutes: 1. Why the hell is every single senior officer stopping in the middle of what are some of the most crucial moments of their lives to sit and give some sort of 5 minute mini version of the Gettysburg Address? Don’t they have freaking work to do or did officers just sit around all philosophizing about “what it all means … man!" 2. Why the hell is the dumb and dumber guy, frankly the only convincing character in the movie. - Have you been fed today? - Sergeant, prepare their quarters and have see the medic about their feet. Ok, I made up the last bit, but that’s the actual kind of stuff leaders say in combat. Again - not a historian but I think it was quite possibly the worst exposition I’ve ever seen. My guess is the director was not a fan of the "tell us without telling" school of filming. Rant complete. Keep up the great work. Now its time to see if this Batman cation is really that good …

I can't wait to see this!! I wasn't going to see it but after your review, I have to watch it. It's showing in this little theatre in Tigard, Oregon- The Joy Theatre! OMG. In this world we live in with high gas and food prices, so much violence and negativity, this will be truly a breath of fresh air.

The hair really was not over the top at all. Emma's hair, with the small ringlets, is more accurate than Gweneth Paltrow version. The clothed were fairly accurate too.

I've only seen this version once, I'd love to see it again. Oh I agree, you cannot but be impressed by the visuals of this movie but I think you should revisit the Gwyneth Paltrow version, I think that one is brilliant. When you really watch it, not casually watch it, properly watch it, the conversations, the expressions, virtually every scene has something in it that makes me laugh, and the proposal scene and working up to it is absolutely wonderfull, as is Rachel Portman's music. I look forward to seeing this recent adaptation again sometime.

Cyd just about gave birth a few months earlier. In fact, because of her pregnancy she missed out on An American in Paris with Leslie Caron replacing her.

I am getting into the classics, and I haven't been this impressed with choreography in so long. I always watch for when the cuts happens in these old movies like Singing in the Rain or White Christmas and they just never come when you think the actors would be tired. Truly impressive how versatile the actors and actresses had to be back then.

Ohhh-kay. I vote this the most annoying and depressing video and forum I have EVER seen on my seven years on RUclips. There's 'I didn't like this movie' and then there's 'I'm so intellectually cool that I pick apart a wickedly funny, nicely action-filled piece of entertainment because it doesn't have a stick up it's a** like I do.' Great review, I'm happy to know that you noticed the amazing effort behind this film like how complex the dancing is and that long shawl. It's a movie I could never get tired of watching or listening to. The fact that gene also did the singing in the rain song with a temp over a 100 and heard he did it in one day take. Debbie never tapped before this movie I think and gene worked her really hard but the end result is astounding. Today is full of cgi, but the magic back then for musicals and movies will always be a treasure.

I think the basic stumbling block you experienced was that you hadn't read the book before. A lot of the jokes and within the movie "land" to audiences familiar with the novel, the vein of which are a somewhat satirical take on the original characters or plotlines. And I think it a fair assumption on the film's creator's part that the great majority of it's audience would be familiar with the novel and to craft something fresh and witty out of it while condensing the story. I don't think the stylistic narrative choice of this movie (even when compared to the recent Little women or Emma films) is a point to be held against it. Not every movie has to aim to cater to the biggest possible audience, this movie did very well for what it was meant to be. And you certainly don't need to know the book cover to cover, basic remembrance of the plot and characters is enough.

I feel TDKR is definitely stronger story-wise than the 89 movie.

Great reaction! Just one thing that bugged me is that the sound on the clip is so low that you need to increase the volume. And then the sound from you is so extremely loud it can be heard through the house.
