The Society promotes the conservation and restoration of island ecosystems, sustainable development of islands, and awareness of conservation issues. Island Conservation Society (also known as Société pour la Conservation des Iles in French and Sosyete pour Konservasyon bann Zil in Creole) was registered as an NGO in Seychelles in April 2001. Island Conservation Society ecologically manages Aride Island Special Reserve, one of the finest nature reserves in the western Indian Ocean. We have also signed an agreement with Islands Development Company (IDC) to advise and wherever necessary manage environmental and conservation issues on outer islands under the lease of the IDC. Conservation centres have been established on Alphonse, Desroches, Farquhar and Silhouette with further projects planned.
Green Turtles on Alphonse Group of Islands, Seychelles
Green Turtles (Chelonia mydas) can grow very large and live up to 80 years of age. On Alphonse Group of Islands, visitors can observe this species mating, coming to nest and their hatchlings when they emerge.

Every now and then a massive Fish Aggregating Device or FADs drifts close enough to the islands where we have a permanent Centre. This one made of plastics, metals, nets and many other materials got caught in the pristine bay of Desroches. Thanks to everyone on the island, it was removed just in time.
