Using a battery powered tool to remove the carb drain bolts is very dangerous. A spark could ignite that fuel.
Just makes it a bit more exciting 😂
Absolutely outstanding video. I have the exact prob. I even stored it with stabilizer last year and ran the gas dry prior to storage. Sure would be nice if Toro have made an easy access door for that carb. Thanks for the great and easy to follow vid.
@@PhillipNeely Thank you Phillip, I really appreciate it! I agree, it sure would be nice if Toro made it easier to get at the carb. Definitely some labour involved to get at it. As for fuel stabilizer and running your unit dry for storage, that usually works however I see the odd case where it does not. Unfortunately there will always be some gas in the system especially in the carb even if you run it dry. The best way is to run your unit completely out of fuel then add engineered fuel. Run the unit for 10 minutes then store it. This fuel will last up to two years in your unit. If you have a light winter and you don’t end up using your snowblower, it should still start the following winter. You can add fresh gas when you need to use it again then repeat. That’s the only way I can guarantee a machine will start for the customer after storage. I will be making a video on this topic because I get it all the time. Thank you for your comment !

My 621E , when I start it with the choke on then the rpms are fine but as soon as I unchoke the 621 the engine revs up very high
@@Ryan-hw3xp Hi Ryan, two things come to mind for a high rev/over revving assuming it is revving much higher than it normally would under normal operating. It sounds like your throttle is stuck wide open in the full throttle position. Check your throttle linkage is moving. Check the top of the carb and be sure the actual throttle mechanism is moving under spring tension. If the whole mechanism isn’t moving then you have a seized throttle likely in the carb. I do see this from time to time. Spray penetrating fluid on the top of the carb where the throttle arm is. (Between the black plastic top and the carb housing). Give it some time to creep in then use pliers to move the throttle very gently back and forth. Keep spraying penetrating fluid while doing this. Be very careful when rocking it back and forth and be very gentle as the top of this is plastic and could easily break. If you free it up then be sure it moves freely and does not get stuck one way. If your throttle is very loose and doesn’t have any tension on it then check your return spring. If that checks out then you likely have a broken governor gear inside then engine. Hope this helps!
Great video - thank you! However, I did everything to a T and it's still surging. My carb didn't seem dirty at all to begin with. Any further advice? Clean gas. Maybe the fuel filter?
Also, it runs almost perfectly on half choke with only a little hiccup every 20-30 seconds.
@@michaelgray48 Sorry to hear you’re having issues Michael. It sounds to me like you have a fuelling issue. I would quickly check to make sure your fuel flow from the tank to the carb is good and steady. If you have low flow then remove the fuel filter and check again. Be sure you have fresh fuel. If you removed the carb to cleaned it out but the fuel was contaminated then that could be the issue too. Drain a little fuel out of the carb bowl drain and check it for dirt/moisture.If that checks out I would go after the main jet again. I know you mentioned you followed everything to a T however you mentioned your unit only runs well on 1/2 choke. This tells me your simply not getting enough fuel. I would remove the carb and pull that main jet to check it again. You could run a micro drill bit through it to open it ever so slightly. Hope this helps!
I have two questions. I am considering putting a fuel shut off valve in line on my 621 E toro snowblower and also wonder if anyone has cut out part of the black plastic that inhibits the access to the carburetor. It doesn't seem to serve any purpose that I can tell other than to hold the choke mechanism and that part could be left intact i think.. BTW very nice tutorial!! Best I have seen
@@terry2346 Thank you Terry, I appreciate it! All small engines should come with built in fuel shut offs from the factory but unfortunately very few do these days. I would definitely recommend installing one to make your life easier going forward. As for the plastic cutting to gain easier access, I don’t think it would be an issue as long as you keep the choke area strong and avoid compromising the integrity of it. Hope you can find a way to make it easier to maintain and service your 621E
By not collecting the carb fuel to visually check it for water you have assumed that the carb fuel MUST be water contaminated. Assumptions can cause much more work and things like plug carbon fouling, bad or weak spark, low engine oil shut-off and ignition switch are left unanswered unless you just happened to guess right on that fuel. I would have first closed fuel to the carb then checked for spark then visually checked the drained Carb's fuel for actual water and then, while the plug is out put a bit of raw fuel into the cylinder to see if the engine recoil started. If the engine quickly died THEN it's carb clean out time. Working Logically, Smarter and not Harder, comes to mind.
I have the clone Kipo Chinese version of the Honda , the only problem I have with it is the petrol shut off always leak after 2 years, so I replaced it with another pipe bypassing the shut off switch , but considering it was bought new in 2000 I think it’s during well .

I put a amazon carburetor on one of the toros with Rtec engine surges. Runs fine on 1/2 choke. Think i need to drill jet or check that gasket not out of place
@@mikehrdlicka8635 I think you’re on the right track. I would start with making sure everything is tight and your gaskets are in good shape. If all is good there then you could try oversizing your jet using a micro drill bit set. It’s likely not getting enough fuel. Worst case pick up an oem carb and call it a day. Good luck!
I am cleaning out my carburetor once a year. Toro please redesign your covers for easier carburetor access.
@@notsurluap I couldn’t agree more. If they made an access door for the carburetor then we’d be all set! Do you have access to ethanol free fuel? If not have you considered putting engineered fuel in your Toro for storage? This would help avoid having to clean your carburetor
You don’t have to clean the carburetor out once a year if you run it dry
awesome video! I own a 721e and a 721rc, the 721rc is a beast.
Excellent how-to video. I'm surprised how difficult Toro made those covers to remove and the mounting of the gas tank. And once again no fuel shut-off. I have a couple of Toro 2-stroke throwers that are easier to work on.
@@James-dt7ky Thank you James! They definitely made it a time consuming process which would otherwise be a straight forward repair. Shouldn’t every small engine come with a fuel shut off valve? Nothing beats those good old 2 strokes. Hold onto it if you can!

Thanks for the great video! I’ve had my MoJack HDL 500 for a little over 2 years now and the last time I used it a couple weeks ago to sharpen blades I noticed a small amount of fluid on the cylinder. It still worked ok but figured it was something that I’d have to keep an eye on. A viewer of yours (j.j.lanblaster42390) also commented on my MoJack video and let me know about the repair that you did on your MoJack. Very much appreciated as I hadn’t looked at my owners manual and didn’t know if the bottle jack could be topped off. Good to know and hopefully the seals aren’t failing. Thanks again.
@@DIYBoomers Hi, thank you for your comment. I appreciate it! I recommend storing it in the upright position if you haven’t been doing so already. I think that’s what may have caused mine to leak. All of that hydraulic fluid sitting on the seal. Since I’ve stored it upright I haven’t had any further issues. The cylinder is still dry on mine almost one full season of lifting later. I’ve done around 100 lifts this past season. No issues. Love this jack! If you suspect the fluid is low in your jack, I believe proper procedure is to stand it up so the jack is vertical and remove the plug. Then top up the fluid until it overflows. Put the plug back in and cycle it a few times. You should be all set. I wish you luck with yours 👍 If you see this j.j.Ianblaster42390 Thank you
I have been looking to get a new jack for my mower. I have had the cheaper Harbor Freight jack for the last 12 years and it's not going up all the way. I might do what you did and check the fluid but I like this jack because it folds up and takes up less space than the Harbor Freight jack. Also, this jack picks up 500 and my cheaper Harbor Freight jack only picks up 300 I think. The weight that the jack comes into play when I worked on a neighbors older, beefy 52" John Deer. My jack wouldn't pick it up! Counting my mowers, neighbors, in laws......I have used my old jack 70 plus times. You only had it for a year and this happened though? I had to read comments to find out how long you had this jack and I think you told someone commenting that you had it a year but used it 50 times. So, since you did this repair has this solved the issue? Have you heard if this is a known problem? Like I said, I am planning on going to Tractor Supply this month to buy this jack and I am just trying to do some research on it. The funny thing is that it's $230 at Tractor Supply and $300 on Amazon. Different brand I think but they look the same. Just curious on what you think of it. Thank for the video!
@@j.j.lanblaster42390 Hi there, thanks for tuning in. I’ve now used this jack for two seasons. Wrapping up mowers here shortly and moving into snowblowers. Since I topped up the fluid I haven’t had any issues. It’s been lifting full range and I haven’t noticed any leaks. It’s worth mentioning that I stand it up now all the time where as I used to lay it down. It lives in my van during mowing season and gets banged around over bumps etc. No issues to report. I’ve done around 100 lifts this year and around 70 last year. I recommend this jack. It’s very compact, light to move around and it’s got wheels so you can roll it anywhere you need to like a dolly. I like the lock feature built into it so no need to use jack stands. It’s well build. I really do recommend it. The best part is that it lifts 500lbs like you mentioned. I’ve never had an issue lifting even the bigger mowers. Good luck with your purchase! I recommend sticking with the MoJack brand if you are to buy one and make sure it’s not a knock off. Take care!
Great.
The outer body of the bottle jack is the oil reservoir. The proper fill is just slightly below the rubber plug with the bottle jack vertical. You want a small amount of space above the fluid level and below the fill plug to allow for heat expansion. Of course with the bottle jack horizontal at rest this should not be a problem. . You should definitely try to find out where it’s leaking from. The reservoir threads into the base
The manual says to stand it up and remove that rubber plug. Then fill with jack oil until it runs out. At that point, the jack is properly filled. Great unit!
Great!, I ordered one of these generators and it is always good to see how they work.

Get a siphon, suck the fuel our from the top, then a paper towel to soak up the last of it. You could have checked if the carb needed cleaning.
@@andypag1071 Thank you for your comment. Great advice!
The basics are, SPARK at the right time, FUEL in the cylinder, Air flow INTO THE CYLINDER and COMPRESSION. YES, THE BASICS. IS this just for show?
Hi there, this video was based on this particular generators issues along with showing how to split the case and put it back together. I realize it was overkill to just drain the tank. I was learning along the way too. I don’t come across many of these Hondas where the case needs to be split as their hardy little units. It may help someone out there is all. There was no reason for me to check compression or spark as it started on carb clean. As soon as it popped off using carb clean I then knew it was a fuelling issue. I may make a more in-depth video going over the basics on how to troubleshoot a small engine. Thank you for that idea. Thanks for watching!
Heck of an effort here! Thanks for the post.
I appreciate it! Thank you for tuning in
Good video. May I offer some advice which may save you some time. There is no need to split the unit to drain the fuel. I have used this next method many times on my Honda generators. First remove the gas cap and the primary fuel filter from the unit. Use a quality turkey baster and vacuum as much of the fuel out as possible. Then use a mechanics flex claw tool to wick up the rest. I fold sections of a Bounty or Viva paper towel and grab the middle of the paper towel with the claw and fold it over the flex claw Then wrap the paper towel very tightly with a new rubber band and wick out the fuel. To remove as much of the fuel as possible from the rest of the fuel system. There is no need to remove any part of the air cleaner housing. Remove the spark plug, place a small container below the drain tube and then loosen the carburetor drain screw. Then place the unit on full choke and pull the starter recoil several times to drain the rest of the fuel. This method is much easier than typing out these instructions. When replacing the air filters it is recommended by Honda to use filter oil to saturate the filter and remove the excess before installing the filter. Here is a link to the Eu2200i air filter maintenance from Honda. It starts at 2:27. ruclips.net/video/zfR1ikN_HZM/видео.html If you do have the unit split locate the finger filter located at the drain hole of the fuel tank, remove the fuel tank line and it is easy to remove and cheap to clean and or replace the filter. If you have the shell opened or you have the exhaust cover off remove the muffler and then remove the spark arrestor to clean or replace. These can clog and cause problems. I have the Honda Eu 2200i but the part types or basically the same. Here is a link to a parts diagrams for the Eu 1000i. I have ordered from this company before and they did well. Honda makes many iterations of each generator just make sure you choose the right unit model before ordering. I try to remove the least amount of parts as possible as I will most likely drop or lose something. Model reference; www.hondalawnparts.com/honda-eu1000-generator-parts Parts diagrams: www.hondalawnparts.com/oemparts/l/hpe/505ce605f870022d24bde0b0/eu1000i-ac-parts Hope this helps.
I appreciate your comment! Honestly I’ve picked myself up a vacuum extractor since the filming of this video. What a game changer it has been. Let’s just hope the seals hold up to gasoline. I will definitely take your advice in soaking up any residual fuel even after extracting. Great write up. Thank you!
Looks like a decent jack. Looks like a standard type bottle jack which is good. Don’t know how you store it but it appears standing up would be best
Honestly it’s been a great jack. It’s been going strong this season since I added that fluid. I agree, standing it up would be best for sure. I plan on making upper mounts in my van so I can store it in the up right position. I’m sure that will help avoid any future leaks and possibly prolong the life of the seal
why would anyone blow that much money on a honda 1000?!?!
They’re hardy little units if you just need a little bit of back up power. I find most use them for camping to charge up devices etc. I’ve seen them neglected and mistreated and they still seem to run. Better then most of their competitors in my humble opinion. This repair was well worth it if you compare repair cost vs purchasing a new unit
@BOB12349307 They are dependable and last a very long time. Some people do not need a larger unit and may struggle with the weight issue.
@@TheMickeymental I have a generac 1500 watt that's 15 years old and still starts on the first pull. It's all how you take care of them
@@BOB12349307 There is more to generators starting on the first pull, but yes it is how you maintain a generator. Personally I wouldn't have a Generac in my home.
Okay so I did the carb cleaner TURN ON !! ( ON CHOKE ) But when i pull it back the choke it turn off
It sounds like you have a fuel delivery issue either from the tank to the carb or the carb itself. I would check to see if you’re getting fuel to the carb first. Make sure your fuel is good in the tank and carb. If that checks out then you’re looking at a carb cleaning. The little ports throughout the carburetor are likely clogged. Be sure the main jet is clean. Hope this helps!
@@OttosSmallEngine how do i do that lol I don't see anything on RUclips 😅 I did what you did fresh oil clean carb fresh gas but nothing I feel like I need another can of carb cleaner to get it to run again
@@LABAMA15 sorry to hear you’re still having issues. If you spray carb cleaner in the intake and it fires up then dies, you still have a fuel delivery issue or a fuel quality issue. The carb could be clean but the fuel condition could be poor. Make sure your fuel is all flushed out and you have fresh gas in there. Any gasoline over 4 months should be flushed out completely. It takes very little moisture in the fuel to cause this issue you’re having. If you are certain you have new fuel in the tank, lines and carb, I would clean the carb again to ensure you removed all the gunk. Especially the jets. I have a video on how to clean a carburetor. The process will be the similar if you’d like to check it out. You need to clean every port and jet. If none of this works, I would look into replacing your carburetor all together. Hope this helps !
@@OttosSmallEngine any recommendation on removing stripped screw underneath < where the 2 long screws hold the shell> 😭
@@LABAMA15 Sorry to hear this happened to you. If they are only slightly stripped you could try a diamond tipped #3 Philips head screwdriver. They bite in better and increase your chance of extracting them. If the screws heads are completely stripped then your only option is to drill them out, knock the heads off and take out the actual screw portion once you split the case. Buy two new screws and you should be all set. Hope this helps!
There is a mesh filter located in the fuel line which goes into the tank, you removed the wrong end of the fuel line! .

nice!!!!! Question for you. I have a PAS ECHO ... runs full throttle when trimming, when i turn it to flip edge it loses power and will not go to full till after i kill it wait 5 or so mins then restart.... any ideas????
Thank you for your comment! Your issue sounds like a fuel delivery problem to me. First and easiest thing I would try is to fill the gas tank all the way. See if it looses power when you tilt it on its side. If it doesn’t then you’ve isolated it to being an issue inside the gas tank. It could be a tear in the fuel line between where it enters the tank and the fuel filter. It could be a bad, wrong or missing fuel filter. Check to see if the fuel filter is in the correct position as well (should be contacting the bottom of the tank). Also, when tilting your Echo and it starts loosing power, check the primer bulb as its dying out. If the primer bulb is low or you see very little fuel inside it then that’ll be a tell tail sign as well. Check your carb bolts to ensure they are tight and you don’t have any vacuum leaks. Let me know how you make out. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck!
