MY 80’s: Free movies on TV that now cost $3.99 Long Gray paper bus transfers with the numbers hole-punched. $.98/gal. gasoline. BMX’s (if you were lucky), or a Murray, otherwise, it was the Banana Seat bicycles. Bandanas or sweat bands. Long stripped socks. Gas station-logo (76 mostly) balls on the car antenna tip. Clouds of black (but great smelling 🤪) exhaust from every bus and truck on the road.
Gosh!! I miss these days so much. LA was so fun and colorful. Not all of the "politically correct" nonsense. Michael Jackson posters all over Tower Records, hanging out at the Beverly Center, etc..... Take us back. The 80s was the best time to be a teenager. Magical ✨
In 86 I was stationed at Long Beach Navy Base during my Navy days. During liberty my buds and I drove to the Red Onion club in Lakewood and partied hard. You had to watch where you went and in a group. But man the woman in the club were beautiful, people were friendly if you didnt act the fool, and it seemed all races got along. Most of all the music didn't suck. I dont live in L.A but its ashame what it has become.
I grew up here! You could see the downtown buildings from my school yard, Union Zve Public school. It was the best time of my life as well. Miss those palm trees and the China town birthday cakes with the almonds on the side❤❤.❤❤❤
What a great video and with Ms. Janet in the background even better I was in my 20's and being from SAN DIEGO moving up here was way different and it took alot to get used too it. I have some great times , bad times , got my heart broken TWICE , changed jobs , riots , earthquakes , dudes , chicks , crazy cops , cool clubs and a few drugs , partying all night and avoiding the sunlight , living in Redondo thinking how the hell I ended up naked with a dude and a chick on either side in Hollywood .....what a time ! But through it all I am still here.....
Both my parents arrive in Los Angeles in the 80's. My mom came in '82, my dad in '84. I asked them once what the city was liked back then and they couldn't remember much. I'm a little envious of my childhood neighbor and my older brother since they were born in '89, but don't remember even a facet of what it was like, reasonably so. My good friend was born in '86 and I wondered if he can provide a modest recount of those times. I'm a local of LA (born and raised) and in my neighborhood around the time I was born (1991), it still had much of the influence of the 80's which always made me curious and appreciative of the decade I wasn't born in.
I'm in my 60's now, and I know how ever much time I have left is LESS than I already lived, and I''ll take these aged years becauseit meanst I got to be a young man in the most incredible decade, in the most incredible city. Long live 80's L.A.
No comparison. Civic SI has a motor built for performance from the beginning. The Scion’s engine is a Camry motor meant to be daily driven comfortably around town. You have to rev the hell out of the Honda to feel the pull. The TC gives you good power from 3,000-5,000 rpm. If you want raw sportiness, noise and handling get the SI. Comfortable daily driver get the TC. The SI was also $3,000-$4,000 more expensive.
I think if you objectively compare how it looked back then with now, that even then people dressed better, with more style, and there wasn't as much tension. More stylish and carefree.
I lived in Hollywood California back in 1979 to 1984 when it wasn't the shit hole that it is today. I was in my early twenties and having the time of my life as a security guard for a jewelry store named Morgan In Company Jewelers in West Wood California. I wonder if it's still there? I Had a good job a 1969 Firebird that would pull the wheels off the ground and a handful of beautiful girls to party with every night, what more could a guy ask for I was in heaven. Cheers to the good old days sure do miss them.
Love that HUGE billboard of my favorite musical of all time Les Miserables @ 05:16!! This had to have been filmed somewhere between early 1988 and mid-1989. Les Mis opened at the Shubert Theatre in Century City in June 1988 and closed in July 1989. I actually saw that engagement. I was 11 years old and I had hardly seen anything beyond my Boyle Heights home. So that night seeing Les Mis at the other side of town that I had never seen before, dressed up, and with 7th row seats...well, it was a magical experience I'll never forget. Have seen the show 29 more times since!
I was born at the Keizer Hospital on Sunset and Vermont back in 1961 and got my first Bartending job at a place called Maxi's Cabaret on the corner of Sunset and Vermont on my 21st birthday! Hollywood was an amazing place to be back then! I've since moved from my native State never to return to the mess that it's become.
So they are now making the Raul Julia Bison Bonaparte on a horse reference as canon. And he now has Rugal's moves?
Let's gooo
This video was released on my fifth birthday. I'm so mad that I'm never going to experience the 80s.
Fuck the 21st century.
When life was happy 😊😁...😢
I remember all those huts selling "eel skin" wallets and stuff--LOL!
Do you remember when visiting a friend we never scheduled anything ! We just showed up
1980s wasn't good as people think , especially in LA with drugs & gangs. Although was alot simpler than 2024 !!!

Dear crimes & smogs & high taxations and homeless: Please leave Los Angeles alone. You ruined enough from this beautiful city
It's only drug heads nearly now. I moved to Montana.

I was a teenager and early 20's in the 1980s. This clip reminds me of the movie "Colors". Hard beats, Air Jordans, high hairdos. Cool.
Pleasure principle 1987
Cell phones and some forms of technology ruined humanity
Same logic can go for tv
AX122 where did you get this footage?
It's actually from a video my uncle did
White people boring then and still boring now
Nice video.
I wanted to see south central
80s may be good but we’ve got the pure technologies & the advantage 2022!
